Lets face it, anyone who has played this game for over 24 hours will give this game a good review. If you are considering to buy this game, do not look at the negative reviews that are 0 to 4, as they are all trolls who like to piss people off. When looking at reviews, look for reviews that are about a 7 or an 8. No game deserves a 10 and no game deserves a 0.

When looking at reviews, look for reviews that are about a 7 or an 8. No game deserves a 10 and no game deserves a 0.

Going off, I have played this game for over 70 hours now and I can tell you that the graphics are not what everyone is saying, the graphics themselves may have been slightly degraded but at the end of the day, nobody gives a **** about graphics.

As for the main part of the game, hacking is very fun and is very useful in almost every situation. Chasing a guy down the street? Hack a steam pipe and slow him down, or hack the street lights so everybody crashes into each other. Wanna pick off a guy and don't wanna be caught? Blow up an electrical box and watch him fly! Hacking in the main way, is very fun and should not be looked down on.

Driving is not fluid, but is not what everybody is saying it is. If you have some experience with Racing games you will know that Watch Dogs driving is similar to the driving. As for driving, I don't really see a problem. First person angle of the vehicle is a complementary touch also.

Shooting in my opinion is the games weakest link. The recoil on the Automatic Weapons (Assault Rifles, SMG's) is absolutely insane! Anybody who has previously played GTA or any third person open world game will know that the recoil is bull****.

Ubisoft has also implemented mid-game crafting. You having a tough time with an Enforcer? (Heavy Armor Enemy), craft a Frag Grenade or a IED and watch 'em fly! You can also craft other things like Proximity IED's, Focus Boosters and others.

As for stating that there is a craftable item called "Focus Boost", I will also touch on Focus. Focus is enabled when pressing the Right Analog Stick, making time go slower and making it easier to kill enemies and score headshots on them. Focus can also be enabled when driving, giving you the effect of being with more precision. Focus is indeed something that will save your ingame life and the time that you will not waste repeating half of a mission once again.

The game also features a leveling system similar to Saints Row IV and 3, and Dead Rising 3 included. The max level ingame is 50, and leveling up isn't all that hard either.

As you level up, you gain Skill Points and you are able to upgrade from the following branches (Hacking, Combat, Driving, Crafting) and you will find yourself playing Mini Games across ingame Chicago.

Mini Games and side missions are fun, but aren't really exciting. In my opinion, I think "NVZM" is pretty good, it involves you shooting virtual aliens that are entering through wormholes and having to eliminate all of them until the time runs out. Side missions such as Gang Hideouts, Criminal Convoy and Crime Stopping are also decent. I find myself playing Gang Hideouts to earn myself skill points, and Criminal Convoy to earn a decent amount of XP.

As for there is much more to this game, I wanted to drop on one more thing and that is the story. The story isn't amazing, but you find yourself caring for the characters and playing through the story as it gets progressively better by each mission.

I might of not went through everything in the game, but my review for this game is a 8.0. This game might of been over hyped, but this game does deserve most of its praise. If you are considering to pick this game up for either the Xbox One, PS4, PS3, Xbox 360 or Steam (PC), I would give you my full recommendations.

Game is fun, multiplayer is unique, gameplay mechanics all work smoothly. i think the graphics are good, not revolutionary, but good enough to the point where its not a problem.

The open world is beautiful, it somewhat captures the feel of downtown Chicago, and does a really good job in its portrayal of the Wards - I felt as though I was actually in the real Englewood. The city is filled with side missions and all sorts of fun stuff to do, although the constant gun shooting and chases get repetitive after a while.
The campaign story line is unfortunately extremely dull, and predictable. Some of the characters are interesting, but we don't really know jack about the protagonist . What drove him to become a vigilante/criminal before his niece died? How did he become who he is? These questions are never really answered, and we're left with a boring and uninspiring main character for the duration of the game.
The game mechanics work well. Hacking is easy, all one needs to do is hold down on X, triggering all sorts of obstacles to impede enemies. As you progress, you'll be able to unlock more hacking abilities which prove to be extremely helpful in getting away from the cops, taking down opponents, staying stealthy, etc. The driving mechanics feel off. It feels as though cars have little traction; I found myself spinning out of control far too often. The gun play is almost identical to GTA, so it works fine. Holding RT to run seems natural and works out well.
Overall, great game. There's nothing new or groundbreaking about this game that GTA or Saints Row hasn't done, except for a little bit of hacking, but if you take the game for what it is, you'll really enjoy it.

Entertaining, but lacking any certain zeal to separate it from Grand Theft Auto. The story line and objectives were very similar, and, if given more time, I'm sure that the team creator could have made a very memorable and pleasing game.

What's not to love here? It's got hacking, it's got GTA style open world and it's got mini games. If you can ignore the graphics controversy you will find a decent game that provides you hours of enjoyment. The only thing this game is missing is killing hookers and innocents. Definitely give it a shot.

The only real negative I can say is that the story is kind of confusing. There are many enemies that are painted as being the main enemy but then they are just a side quest mission to take out. It's not a bad story and I did enjoy the ending but the middle of it is kind of muddied. Overall I really liked the game and I really hope the next version is next-gen and PC only so they can go all out with the next game. Also if you really want to enjoy the game, try not to compare this game to GTA V. Expand

The main story is interesting enough to hold attention throughout the entire game and I enjoyed it, but it won't be winning any awards anytime soon. After you beat the game there's tons to do around a massive and interactive Chicago. The problem here is that you can't play Watch Dogs for hours on end, the game starts to loose it's replay value and I didn't want to binge play it. Driving could be improved but is actually done pretty well. Aiden as a character isn't very compelling, and graphically it's not as stupendous as what we were promised. With these shortcomings, Watch Dogs still holds up to be a unique game that I'm very happy to play. Expand

Watch dogs is set in Chicago, and you're Aiden Pearce. With just your phone you're able to hack into the cities network, traffic lights, road blocks etc. With all the controversy on the graphics it's rather fine to me, while I did want those next gen graphics, it didn't happen. Throughout the city they're multiple side missions, criminal convoys, crimes detected, and mini games such as poker, digital tapes. Poker can be addictive at times and so is the digital tapes as you can be a spider tank! Now, later on the side missions start to get repetitive, crimes detected start to get noticed as rinse and repeat. The gameplay is also rather simple, you got your guns, sub machine guns, pistols, assault rifles, grenade launchers, sniper rifles. And with the ability to slow down time and take out your enemies with ease. There is no melee combat at all other than take downs ONLY on criminals/bad guys. There is also no jumping. The driving also seems a little on the sleeping dogs side, but the driving starts to get to you, you'll get used to it a little more. Hacking into peoples bank accounts to get a ton of money to get that car you want is sure pleasing. The story has many emotions but lacks more in-depth storytelling. Which I was slightly disappointed by. Despite frame rate lag issues sometimes throughout your free roaming experience. Also you got a compatible skill tree system with some useful sources to upgrade your hacking and combat, the only useless one you might run into is the driving, pretty much nothing changes when you upgrade it. It's not the best skill tree but it's good. I'd give Watch dogs a try. Go for it! Expand

This introduces a revenge theme where the brooding player character, Aidan Pierce, is searching for answers about the death of his young niece following a past hack that turned bad. Aidan with the help of some shady Dedsec (a sort of hackers anonymous) individuals go about getting to the bottom of why this family tragedy has befallen and why his family still remains in apparent danger. Upon entering the free game world for the 1st time after the opening story sequence I was overloaded with a massive array of features in very vivid and lively Chicago. It’s not to say this is a bad thing, plenty of titles introduce players to new games with slow, unimaginative tutorials and introductions, while better games immerse players early on incorporating game features that players will need to master. Watchdogs doesn’t really do either instead the game drops the player in and says here’s everything we got, go nuts! In fairness there are short tutorials for pretty much every activity and feature which are triggered as and when they are required as well as the player being able to access them anytime through the in game Smartphone. At first the sheer amount of information dropped at once seems overwhelming, with map icons for campaigns, side missions, collectibles, exploration, activities, investigations shopping and more. However after playing a little while it gets easier to process everything and develop a style of progression you’re comfortable with although this is frequently interrupted by constant remote alerts of crimes and criminals to stop. This can be a blessing and a curse, particularly for somewhat OCD gamers like myself that tend to leave no stone unturned. As for the gameplay itself, it came as quite of a surprise how similar I found the set up to GTA titles. The level of openness is impressive and praise has to give to the level of detail gone in which really makes the city feel alive everywhere you go. I did expect however a bit more cohesion between the player’s story and the game world. We knew before release that the player would be some kind of technological vigilante super Assange, however where this suffers at first is there is no real effort in establishing a motive for the players’ activities. I’m still unsure if Aidan is a hacker turned vigilante, or a vigilante who happens to be a skilled hacker. Again, the narrative at the beginning doesn’t really attempt to reconcile the two so there’s no real purpose to why Aidan should be stopping organ traffickers and potential violent criminals and fraudsters (while at the same time ripping off ATM’s!) What is interesting is the natural Moral compass imbedded in the game using a fairly simple reputation system. Going on a GTA themed joyride and mowing down lines of civilians will severely damage your reputation and make the game much more difficult (and annoying) by increasing chances a citizen may call the police on you and trigger what I have found to be long and frequently difficult pursuits. It is possible however to jam a 911 call or just bully their mobile phone off them. Trust can always be earned though, and stopping street crimes (although fairly repetitive) increases your reputation particularly if non-lethal force is applied, on this note, taking out cops in Arnie, Terminator 2 style by shooting out their legs is also useful as your reputation decrease is less severe than going full on Arnie Terminator. The main selling point for watchdogs that separates it from other open world action games is the tech heavy focus. The players Smartphone is a powerful and enjoyable tool and the real time hacking features are unique to the world of gaming. Activating a profiling mode provides Aidan with general (and amusing) information on any citizen or enemy as well as potential access to their bank accounts or even music collections as well as detecting possible crimes and people/places of interest. Probably the most satisfying and engaging feature is Aidan’s ability to hack into the city’s CtOS network which controls everything from surveillance and electric grids, to street furniture and lockboxes. The dastardly smile on my face the first time I caused a super slow motion police car crash by changing the red lights must have been wider than the Chicago River. The usability of these features depends on if the city district the player is in has had its CtOS tower hacked in a somewhat assassins creed viewpoint unlock style. Some of these towers require parkour and puzzle solving to reach while others require stealth or straight up brutality to reach, Watch dogs does a great job of allowing the player to choose their own style for most situations, it is noted that the parkour features although simple are responsive and effective. Several hilarious decryptions are also available once you have successfully downloaded into some of these stations where you find out just how intrusive CtOS can be on its own citizens lives, from hacking into household camera’s to capture certain, home movies, *cough cough* to analysing people’s health and personal habits. What came as quite a surprise is how smooth the combat system plays, Watchdogs rivals and exceeds even the best 3rd person cover shooters. The cover system is simple and responsive with easy transitions not only round corners but even to cover points at long distances. There is a wide range of weaponry and crafting items to employ which when combined with combat hacking really provides the player with a feeling of control and skill while at the same time never being too easy due to its realism and responsive AI. Most engagements can be quickly pre-planned and strategized by the player. Find hard cover, then watch with glee as you hack into a series of cameras that allows the player to tag enemy positions, unlock doors, set off multiple distractions and even wirelessly hack enemies ear pieces, mobile phones (to text them amusing messages regarding mortgage rejections and more) and remotely set off explosive devices they happen to be carrying. Once the wireless mayhem has reduced your foes to paranoid wrecks, it’s time to move in and pick them off, or perhaps after profiling a guard and learning he’s excited for his daughters 2nd birthday, take them down with a riot stick or just waltz past. Perhaps some of the best moments I have had with watchdogs so far have not been campaign or side missions but rather in the alternative mode. There’s plenty of Fixer contracts to engage in for cash and experience points ranging from stopping a convoy to taking the Chicago PD on a wild goose chase. There’s also the hugely enjoyable “digital trips”, kind of techno induced acid trips which includes one activity called the “spider tank” which had me bouncing in my seat in excitement as I manoeuvred a giant robotic spider across the streets and rooftops of Chicago destroying everyone and anyone. The other game mode that has to be given praise is the embedded online features through the Smartphone online contracts. Although I get the feeling I have not got to sample all watchdogs multiplayer has to offer, what I have played has been smooth, exciting and tense. Although not directly linked to the story the invasion and tailing modes link to your wider role as a hacker where other real world players will invade your game session and attempt to hack your smart phone to gleam data from you while you are given a set time to find the hacker and put them down. The longer you are hacked the smaller the search area becomes with the tension retching up to find the geeky little thieves. On the flip side, you can hack some other poor fixer’s phone. Winning these hack duels grants notoriety points which grants useful special unlocks such as special ammo and vehicles. Another immensely exciting mode is a retrieval mode that consists of two teams driving and shooting it out to decrypt a single file package, the team who has possession of the file when 100% decrypted wins, how you get to that point is completely up to the players. The synchronicity between online contracts and the single player world is very exciting for the future of shared world games, and transitioning between the two is mostly fast and does not feel separated or restrictive, although it would be nice if there was an option to allow a friends list only option as I can foresee myself telling a would be hacker where they can stick their Smartphone for “invading” my game. Looks wise Watchdogs is finely polished and quite striking although I have not really had a wow moment so far in regards to its next gen visuals. The detail however is impressive with weather and lighting effects realistic and ambient touches such as trash floating along the floor in the wind. Up close character details are sharp and refined but once again probably still a little short of being the title that really pushes next gen graphics. The overall style seems to mix a blend of urban, cyberpunk and metropolitan styles although it hasn’t fully engaged me atmospherically to a point I could say it has its own distinct ambience or unique look. I would have liked to see a bit more of a distinct effort to engage the player into a stylised world and was probably expecting something a bit darker and underground. Overall it’s clear that after just a couple of days with watchdogs there’s so much in terms of content and execution to keep a large spectrum of gamers interested and happy. For open world aficionado’s and accomplishment guru’s there’s a mind bogglingly comprehensive progression system including campaign, general experience, skill points and unlocks, side missions, investigation, exploration, collectibles, interactions and activities. Watch dogs does a fantastic job in rewarding players for fully experiencing its vast open world features with progression wheels for absolutely everything with rewards, unlocks and special items making all activities worthwhile and not just extra’s to the main missions. For the more action orientated players the gameplay and scenarios are exciting, immersive and fairly challenging, with plenty of features to provide play style and options. The combat system is enjoyable and rewarding and the AI responsive. My first impression of watchdogs is it seems to just fall short of being a truly iconic next gen title however there’s so much going on that you won’t have time to really care especially when raising a bridge behind you with cadre of cop cars in close pursuit. The graphics on the whole don’t quite provide the outstanding next gen visuals I have been waiting for however there are plenty of visual features and effects for eye candy. It would have gone a long way having a deeper opening narrative and character introduction to link the story to the wider game world giving it some perspective, and emotion, although there’s plenty of scope to develop this as the campaign unravels. The scope and scale of the game together with the well-crafted combat and unique game features will make Watchdogs worthwhile the time required to hack in for a large percentage of gamers. Expand

The stealth is surprisingly one of my favourite parts, I found it fun distracting my enemies then beating them with the batton. The Online free roam is amazing, no missions or tasks to do but with my 3 friends just messing around is so much fun and my favourite part. 10/10 Expand

Hacking is a blast, although the game may fall short story wise, this is because it never really decides if it wants to be serious or laughable. Game play is laughable with no real consequences when killing someone on the road, in reality, this isn't realistic. But on the other hand the story attempts to take itself seriously, which for the most part is intriguing enough to finish. This combination game play wise is leaving people with a love/hate relationship. But really the game is amazing all in all, worth every cent! Expand

Let's be honest. Watch Dogs couldn't possibly live up to the lofty expectations place on it. It is the first next-gen open world urban sandbox. The game grows on you, once you get used to the greasy feel of the driving and the questionable main character. The missions are actually enjoyable, as are the side missions, which is more than I can say for a lot of other open world games. Ubisoft did a great job with their vision of Chicago, and if you give Watch Dogs a chance and can avoid spending the whole time comparing this game to that game, there's a lot of fun to be had there. An extremely well crafted game, full of side activities that smoothly merge both experiences: online and offline. Maybe the main plot is not as strong as one could have expected, and maybe Aiden Pierce is not precisely a memorable character, but as a whole, the game is definitely a memorable one, worth every penny. By the way, Virtual Chicago is gorgeous!

With the help of your trusty cellphone the world becomes your playground. You can interact with various parts of the world around you in new ways. You can do some nifty stuff, but unfortunately Ubisoft Montreal failed to come up with any new, inventive scenarios to capitalize on this. At the end of the day the game just boils down to another open-world experience filled with tailing missions and bland side-activities.

There's a lot of content in this game. However I found none of it to be very interesting. The side-activities are dull and the story missions are the same chase and infiltration challenges we've seen time and time again. To make matters worse they rarely make good use of your cool hacking abilities. I do appreciate how outside of a few mandatory stealth levels you are given the freedom to approach objectives how you would like. Both the stealth and the guns blazing approaches feel great. Choosing to go all stealthy is where the hacker theme really shine. Systematically taking out enemies by hacking cameras from a distance and screwing with the environments is a lot of fun and encourages smart thinking and creativity. It's a lot like the Batman: Arkham games. Combat is smooth and even features a bullet time ability that feels ripped right form Max Payne.

This sort of brings me into my next point. You'll notice that Watch Dogs is borrowing from a lot of better games. You can feel traces of Grand Theft Auto in the world and even Ubisoft's own Assassin's Creed series in the very structure and activity design. This all leads to a sense of déjà vu and over familiarity that keeps Watch Dogs from ever really taking off. You've seen a lot of this before and it was better there. Especially since the game gets a lot of little things wrong. For example, driving is loose, awkward, and imprecise making chases and tail missions a pain. Getting chased by the police is a much too aggravating experience due to how annoyingly persistent they are and how long it takes to for them to loose interest once you finally due manage to slip out of their view. Oddly enough, there's also a reputation system that seems to serve no purpose at all. It's inclusion is a mystery that only seems to be in place because other open-world games have had them. Despite high production values and excellent work from the voice actors, the story is bland and uninteresting.

To go with the always connected theme the game carries, you have the ability to jump into multiplayer content at any time while playing the game. You can access this stuff from your phone or stumble upon it randomly while exploring. Like the rest of the side-content I gave it a try but just wasn't compelled to actually do any of it. That's the game's real problem. There's nothing to actually hook you here.

Ubisoft Montreal chose to stick to the standard open-world tropes. There are some good ideas here and fun moments, but the majority of my enjoyment came from just randomly walking around the incredibly detailed and well-made open-world and hacking people's implants for free stuff. The actual missions and challenges left me wanting as they usually failed to take advantage of the hacking abilities the game gifts to players. A shame, because when you are using them the game can be pretty fun because that's when it's at it's most original. As it stands, Watch Dogs is a standard open-world experience that gives you cool hacking abilities and largely fails to make them feel special at all. It's not bad, but you simply have a lot of better options out there.

Good story and really well executed game mechanics, but just didn't live up to the hype or potential of the overarching idea, I just felt like the solution to every problem was exactly the same and really simple, press x (hack) or shoot it. The cover system was good, the weapons were fun (I loved the silenced pistol), and the game world was also fun to explore. I normally just go through the main story in games like this, but I felt compelled to explore and complete lots of side missions.

The online hacking and tailing was the highlight for me. I loved the idea that at any time someone could be in my game spying on me. A couple of times I caught people out because they were acting in an odd way, but I dread to think how many people I miss. Sometimes a NPC would have a car crash, or something weird would happen, and I'd start freaking out trying to find another player, only to realise it was just an NPC scripted event. Awesome!

All in all, I loved the game and would highly recommend it.

It has some good ideas for multiplayer, giving the player the idea that only they are main protagonist, Aiden Pearce. I thought the multiplayer was entertaining for at least a couple of rounds of hacking, a weird variation of capture the flag where one team has to corrupt a download to stop it from downloading and the opposing team does what the other team doesn't. The driving was stupid. Even though Aiden gives himself the title of 'The Best Driver In All Of Chicago,' he can't take one had off the wheel to shoot the enemy A.I. Instead, you can only use your phone to hack nearby stoplights, steam pipes, draw bridges, etc. I assume they wanted it to be a more of a hacking game, which is what the game is supposed to be but hardly is. The hacking part looks pretty cool, and I don't hack but i'm pretty sure hacking is not like dumb turn the thing to connect to the end objective. The story is mediocre at best, its about a thug who loses his daughter to a shooting and goes on a vendetta to hunt down and kill everyone responsible. The End! We'll be taking that 60 dollars now. All in all, this game is not that bad if you like open world sandbox games. I suggest you wait for this game to go down in price to maybe the 29.99$ - 19.99$ range. Watch Dogs unfortunately suffers from hype...
It promised amazing graphics and a deep open world, this is never achieved, but the 18 hour campaign featured here is one of the best open world campaigns I’ve played in a while..
Watch Dogs is a 3r5d person open world shooter game with a dash of puzzle…
You play as Aiden Pierce trying to get to the bottom of his Nieces murder…
The story telling in Watch Dogs is great… Especially when your focus changes from your niece to someone else that I won’t mention to prevent spoilers, but I feel like the transition was perfect due to that connection… it makes you care... it keeps you pushing forward… but at the same time you’re still going after everyone involved in the initial hit…
And again the writing and introduction to each character in the story is so great that you’ll either really love or really hate someone… you feel pierces emotion personally which creates a great deal of immersion in this story..
To get information on locations you have to hack into buildings and severs…
And there’s freedom in the way you can approach this…
Watch Dogs works great as a 3rd person shooter with an intuitive cover system… an easy to access weapons wheel, tons of weapon variety, a great amount of ammo and crafting parts for bombs… a great stealth system to silently take enemies down or take them out with a silenced pistol…
Or you can hack cameras and explosives…
I personally had the most fun jumping from camera to camera, waiting for opportunities to explode fuse boxes, trigger alarms for a takedown set up… activating the grenades inside of enemy pockets…
Many times during the story I didn’t have to fire a single bullet to get everything I came for..
I hopped from camera to camera hacked into the system and left…
Hacking here is very simple and comes down to a pipe type puzzle of feeding a blue line into other pieces and unlocking them. And these sections are the only mandatory hacking sections as again you can just play as a third person shooter if you’d like…
Outside of the 18 hour campaign though is the open world of Chicago and unfortunately the open world is the weakest aspect in the entire game…
Think of this more as a hub world to extend play time by spreading out mission locations, because ubisoft took 0 note in crafting this open world as it has issues in its open world I haven’t ran into since the PlayStation 2….
Cars will disappear from where you left them if you run into a building to start a mission and come back out…
During chases you have to ram cars to stop them or hack the world around you... which is actually a great deal of fun during intense chases, to blow up streets, raise bridges and road blocks while youre chasing or being chased by the police…
But you cant shoot out of your window to shoot out tires despite enemies being able to shoot while driving…
Another annoyance with these chase missions is that if you do get the person youre chasing stuck, you cant just pull them out of the vehicle theyre in… the only way to continue is shoot them through the window or get back into your car and ram them until they get out…
This isn’t too annoying in story, but is highly annoying in online play when you have a random player trying to hack you…
You can turn this feature off, but anyone at any time can enter your world and you can do the same entering there’s for rep, or co-op and competitive fun like races…
But again these are real people... not ai controlled enemies, so trying to get a head shot on someone in a vehicles is much harder to do in this instance…
And then theres hacking npcs to profile them…. To stop crimes from happening before they happen... I personally didn’t enjoy this aspect at all, I found it to be shallow filler and had no interest in doing random chases as again the campaign created such a great deal of urgency that it created tunnel vision for me…
While Wacth_Dogs didn’t deliver the ground breaking experience it promised.. If you can look past those promises for what it actually is, it’s a great game with a great story.
    I give Watch_Dogs
    an 8.5/10

I thought I could give it a go as I enjoy open world games and I did not get enough from GTA V. Let me tell you, it is a solid game. It's worth playing but definitely not worth the full price. I'll tell you why.

Driving. It feels horrible. When you have to get away

I thought I could give it a go as I enjoy open world games and I did not get enough from GTA V. Let me tell you, it is a solid game. It's worth playing but definitely not worth the full price. I'll tell you why.

Driving. It feels horrible. When you have to get away from the police or a band of gang members, it can be a real pain. Cars are floaty and don't have any feeling to them whatsoever. In a game where driving is in any role, I would hope that the mechanics were a bit better.

Hacking. Extremely fun concept. Problem is it falls short and feels shallow. I admit, it IS fun to exploit the hacking mechanics in the open world, listening to people's phone calls, intruding their homes and just general trolling by messing up the traffic lights. For many people this gets old rather quickly and some might feel that the thing holding up the game doesn't interest them at all.

Story. Not going to reveal any plot twists or any details, but if you're looking for a good story, move along. This was so predictable and generic that there were multiple occasions where I shook my head in disappointment.

Activities. There is a lot to do in the world. The world feels alive enough and most of the activities I found engaging. If you are not a fan of these kind of games you will most surely skip all the extra content, but I recommend to try out the spider tank. It's a load of fun! After 30 minutes, though, you never want to touch it again. Ah yes! Don't forget the towers! The same towers you activate in every single Ubisoft game! Yes, they are back.

Graphics. The city looks nice at night and even nicer when it rains, but there is a lot of pop-in in high speeds and the framerate sometimes dips. Watch Dogs does not look like the Watch Dogs we were promised, but in my eye it's good enough. I didn't buy an Xbox One to look at the most beautiful graphics in the world.

Finally. This game is a 6 IF, and only if, you are a fan of these kind of games. If you are, you will enjoy all the content and spend maybe 25, 30 hours in the game. However, if you don't enjoy these type of games the grade is a 5. I don't recommend it for full price, albeit you should buy it for a low price. Do not expect this to be GOTY material (it really is not) and I'm sure you'll enjoy playing it.

While the driving does take some getting used to that is the ONLY downfall to the game, after playing for a few hours driving will feel like second nature. The game does have a full feeling starting out for the first 20 minutes but picks up FAST. I highly recommend watch dogs to any gamer!

Great game, visually amazing for an open map game, the story is great, the characters are cool and the use of tech equipment is really what distinguish it from competitors like GTA. Overall, it is a great next-gen gaming experience.

After much E3 hype, it certainly doesn't live up to expectations. But despite many flaws, the game is also very entertaining. In it, players step into the shoes of Aiden Pierce, a hacker whose daughter is accidently killed after a botched job. This tragedy involves Aiden's former friend who forces him into committing a series of major cyber crimes. It's a premise that could've been featured in a TV show, but the tone is jarring; a mix of satire and seriousness. The gameplay, on the other hand, is consistent in providing open-world fun. Just with a cell phone (!), you create major havoc by controlling traffic lights, creating black outs, raising street barriers and stopping trains. The story based missions are fun, if a bit familiar.

"Watch Dogs" also features a progression system similar to many open-world adventures. You unlock various weapons and abilities as you complete the campaign and optional objectives. Aiden can also hack into the phones of pedestrians to steal their money. The more entertaining mini-games include "Digital Trips" and "Phone Games" which emulate retro arcades. And like in "Far Cry 3", you must hack into towers if want to expand the map's various missions. Character customization is limited to slightly different wardrobes and there are four different "skill trees" which can be upgraded as you gain "experience points".

In the two of the online modes, you can either hack or tail another player which can lead to chases or deaths if you are discovered. And you can also race others while they try to stop you by raising barriers or bridges and hacking traffic lights. The online Mobile Challenge is basically a race to the finish line, but the catch is that a real person with a tablet can stop your progress by hacking street lights, barriers, etc. The next-gen versions of "Watch Dogs" also include Encryption, a "Splinter Cell"-like mode in which two groups battle for a laptop they must hack and an 8-player "Free Roam" mode. Overall, the game is fun, but it can be disappointing for those expecting major innovation. 8 out of 10 Collapse

My favorite aspect of the game is the fact that you can accomplish tasks in different ways. You can go in stealth and hack your way in, bring down your enemies with the environment or you can go in guns blazing (and there are many guns to choose from).

Graphically the game is beautiful. There is an absurd amount of detail. When you go to a fast food place you can read the menu. I have never seen an open world game with so much detail. This game was worth the wait and the extra time Ubisoft Montreal spent on it.

If the game fine tuned the bugs out, it would be much better.

This is one of those games, i have read at least 5 reviews of this game and one thing i don't like is how they say that this game borrows elements from GTA V but that it doesn't measure up, seriously? yes this is an open world game but it's not trying to be GTA, the hacking aspect of it just proves this isn't a GTA clone, it's an original and interesting game with really cool mini-games and a pretty cool multiplayer mode also.

The graphics in this game are awesome, it's not going to blow your mind but it compares favorably to any other next gen game considering the size and scope of the city and it's inhabitants. I like the variety of vehicles to choose from (not as much as GTA V but still varied enough), if we're going to compare elements then i'll say one thing, the shooting and cover elements in Watch Dogs are a lot better than GTA but the driving mechanics a little clunky but still decent enough.

Overall i'd say this game more than merits it's $59.99 price tag with a long story mode, multiplayer, mini games and side misions. Instead of whining about games borrowing elements from other games, let's be honest , what game hasn't borrowed elements from past games at all? instead of criticizing that let's just applaud how developers are able to take elements from other games and are able to mesh those elements with original ones in order to come up with such awesome games regardless of genre or platform.

I just picked it up for free on Games with Gold last month, so my expectations were at a reasonable level. I have finished the story, done most of the side missions, and spent a decent amount of time with online modes. Overall, I think this is a solid game. There is great fun to be had in this game, even if it doesn't live up to the massive hype. The story is one of the weaker elements in this game. Aiden hardly shows any emotion throughout the campaign, and it started to give me the impression that he doesn't care about anyone around him, even though the game constantly told me he does. His actions frequently put his loved ones in danger, and despite attempts to make Aiden show remorse or question his actions, they aren't convincing, as the dialogue is average and his character is so stiff.
He and everyone else is well voice acted though. The side characters are much more interesting and give the story much needed personality and energy. The villains are also disappointing. The simple revenge story quickly unfolds and becomes more about the city and the crooks within it. However, the final twist, while I certainly did not see it coming, made the main villain look like an idiot, as his motivations were pretty unspectacular and small minded. The storyline was decent and did its job well enough. I did enjoy playing through it though, mostly because of the open world and the mission design and variety. The open world, while nowhere near the size of GTAV, is amazingly detailed. Ubisoft, love them or hate them, knows how to make an open world. The NPC's also give the city surprising life, as the little ctos blurbs tell a story about each person as you walk by them, and give each pedestrian character. They also do more interesting things like play recreational activities, protest, sell you **** and freestyle rap. The things people say, rap, or sell do repeat a couple times though. The game has great animations as well. Aiden especially. He stumbles and shies away when you blow up a fuse box close to him. He sidesteps and puts his hands out to protect himself when almost getting hit by a car. It's pretty cool. The driving can be annoying, however, as the driving physics could've used a bit more polish, as they are incredibly inconsistent. Driving motorcycles always feel great, however, which is really weird. The combat is also great, as most missions give players the freedom to take any approach. There were too many auto-fails for my liking, (my ideal number would be zero), but the ones that don't auto-fail leave it completely up to you. I chose the stealth approach, which works better imo, which includes using lures, silence pistol headshots, and hacking the cameras to take advantage of enemy weaknesses before approaching. You can disable their phones so they can't call in help, explode grenades on someone's body, or mess with their radio so you can take them down without them noticing. Or if you want to take the loud approach, you can. The gun arsenal is familiar but fun nonetheless. You craft endless explosives using materials bought from pawn shops and slow down time using your magic focus ability. Hacking works well with both of these approaches as well. The hacking is simple and refined, and it allows for fast hacking even in the middle of intense combat. The cover system is also amazing. I've never had a problem with it. It's quick and snappy. The side missions, while plentiful, are mostly the same, as the typical Ubisoft formula of the same side missions repeated throughout the map is on display here as well. While they are fun (gang hideouts are the best) I wish they were most thematic, like the tombs from old ac games or stuff from far cry. But they aren't, so stuff in the world, including the scenery, starts to feel the same after a while of play. However, side missions do give you skill points, which you can use on a surprisingly great skill tree. The online modes were another surprise to me. They were some great fun. 1v1 hacking is great, and the fun is completely different depending on whether you're the one getting hacked or hacking someone else. One is frantic, the other is intense and nerve racking as you pray the other player doesn't find you. It's almost felt like a silly horror game the first few times I played, as I knew if the other player found me I was screwed. Online decryption is also great, where you and your team hold a file to finish decrypting it, while the enemy tries to steal it from you. This mode is super hectic, as there are some truly wild moments that happen here, from running over an entire team with a car to constant trading with the file while decryption is at 99%. The other ones are decent. Online tailing is fun if you don't want to try. Online free roam is eh, as there are a ton of restrictions like not being able to punch people.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you want a lackluster open world game then this is for you. I didn't want to judge this game without playing myself...that was a mistake. I can't recall how many hours I put into this game but it was more than it deserved. After completing the "story" and most of the side content (you couldn't pay me to give a crap about the online) I can say that I'm absolutely underwhelmed.

Most of the game controls fine save for the camera when driving. The gun-play and gadgets are all fine, but hacking outside of combat or car chases is pretty boring. It's kind of weird though, the story doesn't reward you for non-lethal combat, but the game does.
Aiden Pearce is an unlikable, one-note character. Every character around him is much more developed but are wasted in this game. Clara was one of the most interesting characters and she gets killed because it was written in the script and no other reason.

Going back to the "story" now. There's a bunch of plots happening at the same time and none are really that interesting. Plot 1 is Aiden getting revenge for his dead niece. Plot 2 is Aiden's former partner-in-crime Damien getting revenge on Aiden. Plot 3 is Iraq (gang leader kinda) blackmailing the city. Plot 4 is Lucky Quinn already blackmailing the city. Wait, Clara was responsible for Aiden getting caught before which lead to his niece being killed? I totally didn't predict that the moment she was introduced. The game waited until the second to last mission to reveal that. That twist was so~ worth it... To make it even worse Aiden says that he's "a changed man" at the end when all he's done is kill everyone responsible for his niece's death.

The side content is a joke! Chess puzzles, poker, poorly controlled drinking games, weird VR games, that goddamn shell game with the ball and three cups! The only side content I liked was the gang hideout missions.

If this game was really bad I probably wouldn't be writing this, but it's because it had the potential to be better than it was that I'm upset by it. And even more so because there's a sequel coming out soon. If you can get it in Games with Gold by all means go for it, but it's not worth buying otherwise.

The world is one of the major bonuses of the game, since it can be manipulated via hacking. It id great fun to for example hack a survellance camera, from there hack the next one, etc.
Watch Dogs was my first game on the Xbox One and at the time I was impressed by the graphics and world. Looking at it now 2 years later, one sees that graphics have evolved since then (although the graphics in Watch Dogs certainly are not bad). At some points, I was a little bit confused by the main protagonist: on the one hand, he is a hardcore hacker, but on the other hand he runs around with guns like an action hero - this could have been done better (either hacker OR action hero).
All in all, the game is great fun, has a good story, great open world, innovative mechanics, but lacks on the character side for the protagonists.

Ultimately, I was disappointed, as the promises made (especially the graphics) failed to meet my expectations. It was not a downright terrible game, it was in fact decent, but there were glaring flaws that kept me from enjoying the game to its full potential. Firstly, driving around Chicago is a hassle, as it is very difficult to handle your driving, making it easily to collide with pedestrians and vehicles. I don't really care that much for the characters because they seem one dimensional and poorly-written. The concept story is interesting but becomes mostly predictable and generic. On a positive note though, the gunplay feels solid and works well with the stealth mechanic. And although the hacking is simple (you only have to press 'x' most of the time), watching the effect it has on portions of the city is quite entertaining to say the least. Not a game I'd necessarily recommend because there are many other open world games that play much better than Watch Dogs. It's an average game that tries to be ambitious, but stays too true to the formula. Expand

Watch Dogs was subject to a lot of controversy when it released three years ago due to failing to match the graphical capabilities it promised at E3. Having stayed well away from the game until now, I finally played it for free as part of June's games with gold.

Watch Dogs was subject to a lot of controversy when it released three years ago due to failing to match the graphical capabilities it promised at E3. Having stayed well away from the game until now, I finally played it for free as part of June's games with gold.
    THE GOOD
    - The gunplay, although nothing new or original, feels solid and fun. There are quite a lot of guns to buy, although some seem far too expensive. Gunplay also meshes well with the stealth aspect, and picking off enemies from a distance is great.
    - The hacking. What little hacking there is in Watch Dogs is one of the best aspects. Unfortunately, it often comes down to just pressing the 'x' button at the right time, but it never stops being cool. Activating an enemy's grenade and watching them struggle to get it off of them will always feel awesome.
    THE BAD
    - Driving is atrocious. Most vehicles handle terribly, resulting in lots of crashes and drifting off the road into civilians, harming your reputation meter that seems to be there solely to make you feel bad (I never discovered what it actually did).
    - The physics. Crashing into lamp posts , traffic lights and fences causes them to shatter into a million tiny pieces, regardless of how hard you hit them. This can be quite funny, but it also destroys immersion. Another example of the wacky physics is that when on a motorbike, some high speed crashes into other vehicles would do me no damage, whereas others would send me flying.
    - The characters are one dimensional. Bla bla bla my niece is dead. Aiden Pearce does a terrible job at making us feel any empathy. He is so bla bla bland that I couldn't care less about him. Maybe the whole revenge story would have worked better if it was his daughter? The story could have been far more interesting this way, if we felt Aiden's anger and saw him unleash on those responsible. Unfortunately, this never happens and killing enemies is fun but carries no emotional weight.
    - Map mess. In a game where everything is bland and boring, too much content becomes a problem. All of the side missions are clones of one another, and there are so many of them.
    - It's impossible to escape the police. They keep coming! I have to kill them and that hurts my reputation, and that probably means something bad. The police can really get in the way, especially during missions when you do something publicly. On the final mission, this was incredibly annoying. I was happy to finish the game but I couldn't until I had gotten away.
    - Missions with cameras. Boring boring boring. Searching a building for someone doing nothing other than jumping from camera to camera is so dull.
    THE BORING
    - The story is nothing exciting. It's predictable and generic. It could have been elevated by a cast of interesting characters but there are only a couple that I ever cared about, and they didn't get as much time in the spotlight as they should have. However, it's mostly fine, just don't expect anything impressive.
    - The world. It's plain.
    CONCLUSION
A very average game that I'd give a 6 simply because of the hacking and decent gunplay. It's just slightly above average, but its hard to recommend when there are so many far superior open world games doing a similar thing. Try GTA V, or even Saints Row. This is fine to kill time, but is ultimately a very forgettable experience, and something I doubt I will ever come back to.

Watch Dogs is not good. Moving feels bleh, covering isn't very fun, running is a pain, driving is a pain, shooting is alright... this game controls badly. WATCH DOGS is the perfect beginning to a new generation of video games. This game has so much value even after 5 years of its release. Criminally underrated. A classic.

Not a bad game, but I must agree with the reviews saying the game is under delivered. Graphics are good for 2014, there are some good gameplay ideas. But doing so little with so much of a concept is just a shame. The game is quite basic, period. The number of sidequests is disproportionate regarding the main story, and their variety doesn't bring a good point either. Really good game, while it’s not a masterpiece, it’s certainly pleasant to play. The story and the city have that gritty atmosphere which is just top notch. Plus lots of side activities are a nice touch.

Expand

If you mix GTA with Assassins Creed and push it into a hacker setting, you get Watch Dogs. And it works well. This was before the Ubisoft formula got repetitive and boring. Overall rating: 8,1.

With this introduction to the world of hacking Ubisoft have created a behemoth of an IP, one that promises much. Like its predecessor though, we’ll have to wait for the tighter and more focussed second iteration, removing what didn’t work and improving that which did, to realise that full potential.

Consistently entertaining but lacking in originality, Watch Dogs boasts a hugely promising concept but finds itself coasting along on the triumphs of others. You won’t be disappointed, but you won’t be surprised either.
