Great game, and a good sequel to Wasteland 2.

Almost everything here is done really well - RPG elements, choices and consequences, combat, gear, graphics. What keeps it from scoring 10 is really just few things: bugs and crashes on Xbox Series S (one year after the launch, that’s not acceptable), and not very believable behavior of one of the key NPCs. But still it is one of the best RPGs I played in last few years, and I had great fun with it. The game handles choices and consequences so well that I thought about some of my decisions days after I finished the play through.

It happens about once every time I play. It wouldn't be so bad, except the load times are also long. Every time it crashes it's 3+ minutes to reload on the original xbox one.
That said the actual game is really good. The mechanics are much improved over WL2 which could be very tedious for things like heeling characters.
The voice acting ranges from really good to spot on. It never feels awkward. If anything some of it might be a little over the top, but it's Wasteland. Bringing different characters with you impacts dialog too.
The skill/attribute/perk system scales well as you level.
overall it's well thought out with lots of decisions that can have consequences much later, and in spite of the crashing bug it's definitely worth playing.

Other than that I thoroughly enjoyed the game, the story was straightforward, but it wasn't black and white, and I liked that. The rpg system was pretty good, and the combat was decent and addicting. I loved the presentation, but the whole ending events kind of felt underwhelming, even though I was satisfied with the ending based on my descisions. This game doesn't do anything spectacular, and it's basically an outer worlds, fallout turned into a turn based game. I would definitely say the rpg elements and presentation/themes/ side quests were the best part of the game. Story and combat were decent, while the game is completely broken on consoles.

For a while I've been unhappy with single player rpgs that take years and years to release and then have scaled down on things like builds, player choice and actual roleplaying. Storytelling has taken a nosedive from BioWare as well. So i've been keeping track of smaller studios and i'm really pleased to see such great stuff coming from larian, spiders, obsidian and also inxile studios.

This is my first wasteland game but I'm really loving it. It's fully voice acted, personality traits and perks provide different approaches to both conversation and combat, the characters are well written and charming and there's a huge range of rangers and people you meet that you can recruit. I also appreciate that I can choose from a number of different starting characters with their own traits and backstories.

It's unfortunate it launched in a buggy state but so far all I've experienced are some very minor audio glitches and long loading times. If you can look past that you'll find one of the best rpgs in recent years.

First, I played this on Xbox One and I can say that it is absolutely easily the most unstable game I’ve ever played. I can’t even count the number of times it crashed on me. I would guess around 30 times but I lost count. This is really unfortunate because this game also suffers from incredibly long load times so each crash results in you just sitting around and waiting for a while. The load times were improved by a recent patch but are still pretty long which can be irritating when traversing multiple levels quickly.
Another issue I have with the game is it’s rather odd combat mechanics. There’s nothing really groundbreaking here. It’s very much like previous iterations or other popular tactical turn based games like XCOM. You can sneak attack to open up engagements or the enemy can fire on you first. In either case it results in usually one team taking its turn completely and then the other team reacting. The problem with this is most of the late game enemies hit incredibly hard. Meaning if the enemy team goes first, they can wipe you out or, most likely, decimate your team and leave you with a few surviving members before your first turn. All this results in is a bunch of save scumming until you get the opening that you need to win the fight. It’s an unfortunate side effect of the system they’ve chosen here.
On that note, while there are a variety of characters to choose from, I felt like it was always a disadvantage to change out characters as you spend your time making each member of your team a specialist in a few areas so you can cover all fields. When a new member comes in, they are already leveled up to some extent and have their own specialties which can really mess with your team synergies. The result is I very rarely even considered changing members since I already had my specialists picked out and leveled up the way I wanted them. And since there’s no perma death, you can roll with the same team for the entire game without issue. It’s a shame because there are some interesting playable characters you meet later but you just don’t need them by that point.
Even with all these issues, I still really enjoyed this game. The story and the lore is rock solid. The choices you make feel like they really matter (and there are some tough choices to make!) and the ending changes drastically based on your decisions. If you are a fan of tactical turn based shooters, don’t pass this up, it’s a great game. Just be ready for some irritating bugs and gameplay mechanics.

Honestly, this is probably the most broken game I've played on the Xbox One; persistent crashes, characters spasming on cover, getting stuck in combat mode, not being able to function in several expected ways during combat mode, reversing your attempts to change your roster...I could go on. Point being, its an embarrassing mess that i am not convinced was play-tested at all before being released on Xbox. Even without the bugs (maybe they'll all eventually be patched out), the game is maybe a 6/10 game, but in its current condition, its awful. This is a real shame.

Before you can get back to the thick of it though, you’re tasked with creating a characters or simply choose one of the pre-made character duos to take on your way. In the early stages of Wasteland 3, the narrative and gameplay primarily focus the player’s efforts on building the Ranger Base. This is your main hub in the world and it’s your job to build it up by employing and acquiring the help of strangers throughout the wasteland. Sometimes it’s quite obvious that someone will join you, but I’ve also found that you can be rewarded for going out of your way to help someone. It’s an engaging plot device that weaves both gameplay and narrative together in a way that rewards your engagement. The character customization is deep in Wasteland 3, with each playable character having the ability to specialize across a number of different play styles. Who come with a mix of close quarters melee and ranged attacks. That’s just one character type though and there are plenty of ways to build a team to fit your play style. With my finalized characters I was introduced to the heart of Wasteland 3’s gameplay- the combat of course. If you’ve ever played the previous entries in the series, you’ll know mostly what to expect. For the uninitiated Wasteland 3 plays similarly to the amazing XCOM series. Fights take place across a gridded map, with movement, actions and attacks using the limited amount of AP each character has. Each fight is a balance between aggression, defense and balancing those ability points so you don’t end up leaving a character in a compromised position. Truthfully, it’s a whole lot of fun. It’s not quite as hard as something like XCOM, but I like it a lot for that reason. I found that Wasteland 3 only typically punished me when I made silly mistakes, like running into a battle without considering positioning or standing a little too close to the explosive barrels that litter battlefields. With some clever thinking and a little foresight, you can really give yourself a tactical advantage on the battlefield. At one point I found myself defending a family from a murderous gang (who I’d angered by killing the leader’s brother). By making the decision to gain higher ground with my sniper, I was able to effectively take their gang down with relative ease. It’s in these moments that Wasteland 3 truly shines, providing some of the best turn-based combat I’ve seen so far this year. The stellar combat is only narrowly outshone by the game’s brilliant narrative system. Wasteland 3 uses your decisions to shape the wasteland around you, and this pays off in ways that are both big and small.. There are around ten different endings that you can reach, with some decisions having massive effects on certain portions of the game. Even after half a dozen hours you can already start to see the results of some of your decisions playing out, and you continue to see that impact throughout the game. Dialogue and narrative have always been a core focus of the Wasteland series, but the introduction of voiced dialogue in Wasteland 3 is by far one of the best improvements the game could make. Voiced dialogue adds a new layer of believability, which in turn further immerses you in the world that inXile have created. The solid voice performance mixed with some great writing has made me laugh out loud on more than a few occasions through the game. Moral choices are fairly common in gaming now, but Wasteland 3 distinguishes itself in how it uses them to great effect. It generally presents you with situations and choices that fall within a morally grey area. There are certainly times when it’s obvious who the evil character is, but there are also moments in which you can empathise with all parties involved, ultimately making the decisions so much more difficult. There’s a particularly tough one early on that resulted in me killing an entire group of people due to the actions of their leader, while a later decisions had me choosing between the lives of innocents and my mission to protect a special set of armour to curry favour with the local ruler. Not the greatest moral quandary, but a touch decision nonetheless. I really enjoy the little touches in Wasteland 3. Whether it’s a certain dialogue tree, a random encounter or one of the many side-quests, everything feels completely fleshed out. There’s so much to do and see, and the fact that your presence shapes as much as it does sets a new bar for RPG titles of this nature. Wasteland 3 also features co-op gameplay, to take on the story together, or branch off and forge your own paths through the world. However you play Wastelands 3 is a must have Xbox title. Expand

Wasteland 3 is not a bad game, but the crashes are so consistent that it ruins the fun. $60 for a game this broken and low budget looking is outrageous and I hope everyone who made the mistake of buying it will demand a refund.

Edit: the patch (1.1.0) did not fix the constant crashing at all. The developers’ suggestion to turn off auto-save to fix the constant crashing did not fix the

Another unfinished and buggy game from a newly Microsoft owned studio. Wait another half year if they fix the numerous bugs and glitches.

But unfortunately the same problems that ruined that game risks ruining this game too. The game is so unstable and buggy tryints impossible to get through a playthrough without rage quitting due to multiple crashes. The save system is all over the place, whats the point in having a quick start feature if uts just going to reload at whichever previous save you had made. The crashes happen for no clear reason, sometimes its mid combat, sometimes its mid conversation. Somethings its just as you flick through your inventory. It honestly ruins the game. The difficulty spikes are insane just like the previous game too. One moment you're slaying guys with one shot likes, the next youre getting merc'd by one shot kills it means the game a grind fest as you have to massively OP for simple quests as you can't tell how difficult the quest is despite the level recommendations next to the quest. Its honestly one of my games of the year contenders but they seriously need to fix this ASAP before everyone just leaves it to be forgotten due to its poor quality. Expand

Wasteland 3 is about adapting to a situation and environment while managing a "choose your own story" adventure. While the main story is fairly straight forward, how you experience that story is totally in your hands. This is why I can say that Wasteland 3 is one of the best CRPG games you will ever come across. It provides a depth that would allow you a seemingly infinite way to experience the game without being overly complex and hard to manage and all the while not taking itself too seriously in its delivery. If you want a good RPG there are a ton out there that are a dime a dozen, but if you want one of the best CRPG experiences you can have, then you absolutely have to purchase Wasteland 3.

Do you love classic, old-school RPGs? Do you prefer a dirty Apocalypse to a generic fantasy world? Then you’ll love Wasteland 3. We couldn’t have wished for a better successor to the old Fallouts from Interplay.

Some small issues aside, Wasteland 3 is a superb RPG and a huge step forward for inXile studio. Wasteland 3 is a classic RPG with great story and characters and challenging but fun combat system that is appealing to both new and old RPG fans.
