But deliveries from Steeltown have stopped cold, and all the Patriarch is getting from Abigail Markham—Steeltown's leader—are excuses. When he sends the Rangers to investigate, they find the place is a powder keg with the fuse already lit. The workers are striking, bandits raid with impunity, and nobody is allowed through the gates, not even on the business of the Patriarch. Without help, Steeltown could crash and burn for good, and take Markham with it—but maybe that's just what it needs. The Rangers will have to decide that for themselves. Expand

I enjoyed this new adventure in the frozen land of Colorado. The challenging combat, choice-driven narrative, and fun humor are hitting on all cylinders in Wasteland 3: The Battle of Steeltown. If you enjoyed the gameplay of the original release, I can easily recommend checking this out.

With its new quests, the proliferation of choices with strong consequences, its new weapons and new ideas that bring a tactical overlay to the confrontations, Steeltown does what is expected of it: to deliver an experience in the right lineage of Wasteland 3. We would undoubtedly have liked a more finished product, free of bugs that hang out here and there or a slightly longer story, but fans of the original game should easily find their account in this expansion.

Wasteland 3: The Battle of Steeltown is the very definition of “okay”. The story is good, choosing which side to champion does add a bit of replayability, and the weapons are fun to use, if only really relevant in the DLC bubble. The problem is, the bugs that seem to crop up regularly now spoil the taste somewhat. If all you want is more Wasteland 3 story to follow and play through, this is an easy sell, but the rest of us should think a bit more carefully.

Even though our last trip to Colorado in Wasteland 3 goes back a while, one must admit that returning there for the new DLC entitled The Battle of Steeltown was an absolute pleasure. Indeed, the Rangers are still up for a good dose of adrenaline, money, guns, fights and encounters with freaks, bloodthirsty raiders, existentialist robots, and philosophical workers. The Battle of Steeltown offers us a narrative as “subtle” as always, more strategic fights embellished with new features forcing us to drastically change our already quite-well set methodology. This first DLC is rather short, but clearly worth the €13, 99 it asks or even less for the Xbox Game Pass subscribers.

Not only does it offer the same rich level of replayability and choices as the main story, it brings new gameplay mechanics that improve and expand the base game as well, such as crafting and non-lethal stun weapons. I'm excited to see what else is yet to come from InXile...besides more updates to make it run better, of course. Expand
