The Collection also includes Timeless Mode, where themes, Characters, and Enemies from BOTH games are updated for more modern gaming creating a third game to blast through. Featuring up to 4 Player couch Co-Op invite your friends over and dominate together! VASARA blends your classic shooter, with Melee attacks that deal devastating damage, and carve a path through the fields of bullets. These games were not made to be easy, they were designed to be extremely challenging, and that they are. Like most games made in their era, VASARA 1 & 2 have decent pixel graphics, and Timeless mode presents the same challenges with smoother modern graphics. The lack of Online ability, is a downer, playing with any of your friends across the internet would have been much more fun as challenging as the game is to play alone. Playing these challenging games is a treat for fans of the Genre, and if you enjoy overwhelming odds, and overcoming them, this will be a game you will enjoy! a Must Have for collectors of rare arcade games and Vertical Scrollers, VASARA brings the best of it's genre to the forefront! Without a doubt, I would not be missing anything if I skipped this collection. I didn’t miss out when they were originally released either. However, there is a strong contingent of shmup fans that will love it. The asking price is very fair, and if anyone enjoyed the originals they will appreciate the chance at not only playing the classics but the enhanced version as well. The Vasara Collection is a bit on the harder side, so anyone new to the genre will best spend their time elsewhere.

The Vasara Collection is an unusual choice for a modern game port. A game not many people would have heard of and a genre that is more niche than most. I would certainly recommend turning down the difficulty for most people to ensure that you have a good time. But if you are the sort of person that loves the kind of challenge a bullet hell game provides, well there is certainly some of that in there as well. There is plenty of game for the low price point and I definitely had some fun mixed in with the frustration.

Vasara Collection brings two rare Japanese shmups to a modern audience in a competent (if relatively no frills) experience. Unique melee mechanics and a quirky feudal Japan setting make them well worth experiencing, just don’t expect them to be easy. The bonus Timeless mode is a nice addition but feels a bit wasted.
