Underworld: Ascendant has the look, but falls short of its predecessors. It has the potential to be so much more, but the story is empty and generic. I had high hopes as I started along my journey, but this anticipation slowly melted away as I felt more and more of the mechanics. Excitement sparked when I learned about Runes, a promising magic system. Neat as it was, it too felt heavy and clunky. Then was the saving... once every 'level' you get a chance to save your progress, more like a checkpoint you get to go back to if you fail before finding the next one. I never once felt completely immersed in the game. I did feel the elation of finding a save point a few times, but it was knowing that part was over, not feeling like I just defeated a grand challenge. I would call this an Action Adventure before calling this an RPG because you never played a role, you ride a rail, a slow clunky rail. The combat was simplistic and the stealth worked when it wanted to. I unfortunately can't recommend Underworld: Ascendant if your looking for an RPG. If you were a fan of Ultima Underworld You might want it for your collection, but the game overall was not as promising as I had hoped.… Expand
