An amazing game and a joy to play. Is Underhero perfect? No, but there’s little to dislike, and similar to the crush phase of a new relationship, the game’s faults are extremely easy to overlook. The many diverse gameplay elements of Underhero mesh well and add benefit to the game rather than retract from it. It’s charming and highly recommended.

There’s no doubt that Underhero was made with a lot of love, as it shows in nearly every aspect, not just its visuals and audio, but the clever writing and depth of the gameplay. While you’ve probably not heard of it, Underhero really is fantastic experience start to finish. While I normally love betting on the underdog, you’ll definitely want to bet on the Underhero.

Underhero is not a difficult game, but it is a beefy one. Players could spend anywhere from 15-25 hours in it depending on how much they backtrack and collect upgrades and items. The combat continuously evolves to keep it interesting, and the charm manages to last all the way through. While there are plenty of games keeping us busy these days, Underhero is one that should be on your radar at some point. The light price tag and unending charm make it a sleeper hit and one I can whole-heartidly recommend.

In a world where every video game idolises the hero, a villain stands up and says “enough is enough!”. Underhero is a playful take on stereotypical conventions that have plagued many gaming genres for years. Developer Paper Castle may miss the mark occasionally, but Underhero on Xbox One is an inventive take on classic gaming tropes.

Level 99 and ready to take out the Evil Mr. Stitches with your trusted weapon Elizabeth IV. as you approach the final room you encounter a few masked underlings. Before you can dispatch them... the chandelier falls... killing you... OK, that's not our hero... Elizabeth IV, a sentient sword hilt choses you, a lowly level 0 minion to become the hero and save the land from your boss. The game is full of parody against standard RPGs and quips that kept me smiling. You, being a minion yourself, have the ability to talk to the other minions of Mr. Stitches to learn what lies ahead. Combat isn't turnbased, or tactics strategy, it's a neat timing based combat. You can duck and jump to evade attacks, and attack your enemies. Some costs stamina, like attacking so you've gotta keep a pace, or you'll exhaust yourself, leaving yourself vulnerable. If you don't want to fight you could bribe you cohorts, then they simply ignore you. Underhero is a charming, slower paced game that I believe Gamers young and old could enjoy. Full Review »
