I wanted to like this game. I bought it right away when it came out but I just can't play it. The mood is there, you really feel the ambiance, but walking is too slow, running will tire you in 5 seconds, the controls are awkward to say the least.
I like pixel art, but the font is unreadable without effort and the key is there: playing this game requires effort, it feels like work.

Each play is a short episode that will drag you through the same slow 15 first minutes so that you can see a different ending; and this will happen only because you go out of your way to try something different than what worked last time.. it doesn't feel natural.

Where the developers did good is the atmosphere, through graphics and sound, they created something nice and the intent was good, but it feels like an experiment that failed.

I agree with everything thomasd3 said about this game. I just CAN'T play it. The control system is infuriating and I instantly got angry and frustrated. This is the first time a game immediatly angered me. I also bought on day one as I like to support indy games but this one was not my bag. I give it the four for the effort but that is the best I can offer.

Compellingly creepy and narratively stimulating, but poorly served by its puzzles. [April 2017, p.84]

Uncanny Valley has a couple of good ideas. Firstly, it has an interesting setting and plot, and the 2D action adventure approach works well at a conceptual level. The introduction of a compelling reason to replay the game, and the various means to progress through it and end it is also very welcome. Unfortunately, the combination of abysmal controls, poor combat and a lot of repetition in almost every area can make it hard to get the most out of Uncanny Valley, and as a result, it's not going to be for everyone.

Uncanny Valley has strong presentation and an interesting story to tell but it’s held back by bad execution and cumbersome controls.
