This game is half way between a video game and a board game.
You want to play this with your wife over a few days, because that is how you will get enjoyment out of this game. I took two points away from this game... One point for lack of polish. It is supposed to be simple but small things like when the wife picks up two cups, they just disappear. And one point for being too simple

It is supposed to be simple but small things like when the wife picks up two cups, they just disappear. And one point for being too simple graphically. I know it didn't need to be amazing, but the fact that there wasn't much to it was exactly why it should have looked amazing.
Other than this, it was a really unique concept and this is a great indoor solution to doing something like an escape room with your family without leaving the house. I hope that there arw more games like this. Oh and the cast was great! Especially Defoe

Unsettling, riveting and incredibly well paced. 12 minutes is a mysterious treat filled with new ingredients to be discovered on every loop that keeps you wondering, only to be drop-kicked by the end result.

Un increíble indie con una historia fascinante aunque le falta comprenderse a si mismo ya que el juego tratándose de un bucle de 12 minutos no se llega a conectar entre lo divertido y nervioso que nos pone

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Awful. The hype was completely unwarranted. The game's 12 minutes mechanic is frustrating in how many loops you require to get things done and how little time you have to explore as everything is timed. Then when you do know what to look for you are stuck waiting in real time for *nothing* to happen. And the exact nature of things you need to know is not always obvious or easy to uncover.

Beyond the gameplay the story is completely vapid. Having an incest baby with your half-sister? That's the big twist? Really? Are all these narrative games just going for the quick and easy shock factor now?And then the game doesn't have the balls to commit to you staying with her or leaving her once you figure out the truth (you are given the option for both but those don't lead to a real ending). Instead the game asks you to merely relive your life up to that point over and over so you don't need to commit to a decision because of course that would cause a controversy. Something tells me this game only got developed on the promise of the gameplay and no one was looking to see how the narrative was panning out.

Waste of time, don't bother. No idea why this game got the hype it did from Microsoft. You can't tell me anyone in an office knew what this game was about beyond the surface concept of reliving 12 minutes before your own murder. "Yeah, the sister incest baby game! That's the one we should hype this E3!"

Very interesting concept of a game where you are stuck in a time loop. To move forward you need to find things and details which help you in the next repetition. So with every new learned thing you proceed forward in this thrilling story. And great thing about this game is voice acting done by James McAvoy, Willem Dafoe and lovable Daisy Ridley.

Even though this game consist of 3 rooms and 3 characters I spent hours of trying different conversation combinations or looking for stuff just to learn something new. So it was surprisingly long game and I really enjoyed all of this.

The game is not perfect, some dialogues and their consequences are not consistent, but the result is an excellent game. If you like games that don't consist in mashing buttons, if you like riddles and point and click games, you must play this. Scenario is also great, even if I feel like they were a bit inspired by a 2003 movie that I cannot name because if I do, I would spoil a bit...The game is not perfect, some dialogues and their consequences are not consistent, but the result is an excellent game. This could have been a big 3 hours long movie, or a mini TV series. Netflix, if you read me...

Long, boring, monotonous and not 12 minutes. Repeating the same actions for the sake of getting 1 option for a new dialogue is absolutely not interesting. I had much higher hopes

Great puzzle game, not sure why people think it's obtuse, only got stuck once and the solution made sense and I kicked myself for not thinking of it.

If you want a great example of a modern day puzzle game check it out.

controls are not great, point and click with a joystick and your opinion of the story twist may vary but I recommend it to any puzzle fans out there!

With all that being said, I struggled to actually enjoy playing it. The gameplay and puzzles are too frustrating than they need to be. Even for a point-and-click puzzle game, your actions feel too restricted and linear in an already claustrophobic space. I can't recall how many times I wanted to do something, with the utmost confidance that it could work, when the game simply wouldn't let me experiment with my own ideas for different outcomes. This is twice in a row I didn't really like a "time loop" game either, so maybe these also just aren't for me. I find them obnoxiously tedius. Expand

12 minutes gets a pass for the atmosphere, the mystery, the unreal plot twist and the good voice acting. However, this game also suffers from 'the pre-defined path'. However, this game also suffers from 'the pre-defined path'. Where you have enough space in the beginning to unlock new parts to discover the mystery, later in the story there are less (and missing) options for your own input. In fact, you have to follow the exact path that the developer has mapped out. It therefore no longer feels like your own story. Many unnecessary loops are the result and there is a big chance that you will have to look up how to advance the story at all. Still, the story is good enough to get a payoff that makes it worth your trouble.

    Pros:
    - Atmosphere - Sound design
    - Voice acting
    - Story and plot twist

    Cons:
    - Pre-defined path that results in many unnecessary loops
    - Hard to find ways to advance the story on your own
    - Missing options to experience with that would have been logical within the story

Minor irritations aside, I can't fault Twelve Minutes for its ambition. Luis Antonio has set out to tell the kind of story that can only truly be told in a video game, offering up a tense and often deeply unsettling interactive thriller that succeeds in breathing new life into the point-and-click adventure genre. I can say with certainty that the story and its potential outcomes won't be for everyone, but you'll be left chewing over what happened hours after the credits roll.

Twelve Minutes plays like an escape room on extra hard difficulty and with higher stakes. As an intriguing albeit small-scale thriller with many twists and turns that can sometimes be frustrating, ending the time loop is ultimately somewhat worth the effort.
