Did I have fun with Towaga: Among Shadows on Xbox? Yes. Do I wish that there was more to it? Even bigger yes. The alternate game modes and unlockable spells all feel pointless, and the story is lacking in many ways. Yet, despite these flaws, I couldn’t put the game down. Though it doesn’t feel like it lives up to its true potential, Towaga: Among Shadows is a unique shooter that I hope to see more of in the future.

Inspired by classic 2D animation games of the past, embark on a journey to combat the darkness and find the light within you. Over the years many a video game have caught the eye through a unique graphical style. Developed by Sunnyside Games, Towaga: Among Shadows initially saw life as a mobile release before expanding onto other platforms. It's fair to say that Sunnyside has nailed down how Towaga: Among Shadows should look, with fantastic character models and some truly gorgeous, flowing animation. With plenty of color and a sharp contrast to its shadowy enemies, Towaga feels reminiscent of games such as Rayman or PSone cult classic Heart of Darkness, while comparisons to Samurai Jack also ring true. Although the resemblances are there many of these games hold a stronger punch as an individual package for their times. Many mobile games make their way to consoles and PC due to the powerful smartphones of today. Some transition better than others, there's noting terrible here but fails to fall into great when compared to the likes of some of the games it tilts a hat to. However it's also definitely far fro terrible for your Xbox One library for the price of admission. Expand
