Awful game. Worst skateboarding game in recent years. Awful controls and physics. The game looks bad, plays even worse. There really is no salvaging this game.

I think I made it past the into screen twice. Every time I load up the game it freezes. So that puts a damper on things. Do not buy this game for any amount of money unless you plan on it just looking pretty on your shelf.

While not a great game, it doesn't deserve the amount of criticism heaped upon it. If you like the series and are okay lowering your expectations a tad, pick this up on sale. It's easily worth 10 to 15 hours of your time. Expand

The game is definitely not a great looking one with an almost cel-shaded appearance that doesn't really fit the game's atmosphere. The create a skater has been extremely turned down and in fact you may not even know it exists if you don't know how to access it and the styles are pretty limited. The board selection is decent though. I was also pretty let down that you cannot edit pre existing movesets as most every skater has the same special tricks except for grinds and manuals. Not really a dealbreaker in my opinion though. I think what really messes up the experience is the boring levels. The levels themselves are pretty claustrophobic and exploring isn't that much fun. No one really explores in TH games, I know, but the skate letters, combo letters, and collectibles are very easy and no brainers. The missions themselves in levels aren't too bad, though the advertising of 80 different missions feels as an overstatement since there technically may be 80 separate missions, but they all follow the same pattern: get a score, run through rings, do what tony tells you to do, big head mode, etc. So it can get a bit repetitious. Now I do know games these days have xp and levels to level up in, and this one followed suit, though in a Tony Hawk game I don't really see the use in leveling up. Doesn't make much sense. I mean maybe if it changed the stats, but you get stat points for completing missions. But yeah the worlds seem quite empty. I think the dev team thought many more people would play the game so the parks should be full of free skating socialites whenever no one really advanced more than the first couple levels. I've completed the game and gotten 1000 G and after selecting any level after Bonfire Beach, there are pretty much no others to see anywhere.

Instead of feeling like THPS3 or THPS4, it feels like THPS1. Now that was an awesome game back in the day, but in 2015 it feels outdated and old. Especially to pass off for $65. I got the game for practically nothing after trading in games and it being on sale, so I can't say I feel ripped off but I can see where I'd probably hate it more had I paid full price. Not to mention the create a park feature isn't bad and actually a lot could've been done with it but many of the community don't really feel obligated to create parks since there isn't a big community to play them, though there are a few good ones if you search hard enough. I don't necessarily think the dev team hastily threw it together. I believe they worked on it a while and had some good ideas, the only problem was that it only sounded good on paper and once it actually came to be, it wasn't what it seemed like it would be. Also the removal of local multiplayer was a bit weird especially since it takes 8 people to do an online multiplayer game and good luck finding that with no one else playing the game! I'm not going to lie, I've had a lot of fun with this game and I personally do like most of the old school feel about it, but if you're wondering if you should get it or not, I'd say wait for it to be on sale and there being nothing else you see you spending your money on... Or you can just get the THPS1 HD remake

Seriously, if you don't install a 5gig patch, you're left with a tutorial and the park editor. Woe is anyone with a slow internet connection. You ain't skating today, son.

Okay, so the actual game is terrible. The controls are ripped straight from THPSHD, except they're somehow LESS responsive than a game on PS3/360 which was, in turn, less responsive than a game on the PS2.

The soundtrack is pretty bad, but it's not "kill me please" bad. I mean, it has SOME punk in it, but it's a lot more poppy than before. What happened to the days of Bad Religion, Rage Against the Machine and Motorhead?

The game is embarrassingly ugly. I don't get why, but the teaser video had pretty mediocre graphics and they're somehow worse in the retail version. Textures take several centuries to load, it can't decide whether it wants to be 30 frames a second or FOUR frames a second, the UI looks like it was made as a high schooler's Unity project.

I stopped playing after about an hour. I really cannot stand this game. According to people who suffered through the entire thing, it doesn't get better. Through the glitches and server issues, the horrible graphics and the dull soundtrack, DO. NOT. BUY. THIS. GAME.

I often complain about remakes of other games today trying to "innovate" and completely ruining what the game was originally all about. This game may not be worth sixty dollars but that's not because of the way the game is set up and works. It's because it needs more content. People are unhappy they paid $60 for basically 10 pro skater levels, which used to be fine but people are used to much bigger open world games now. Keep in mind for 100% you can complete all of those levels with every character. This game would be ten times better if it had bigger levels, more levels, more objectives within the levels, more normal character customization staying true to old school skater looks, and a bigger soundtrack. I love the new slam move that speeds up game play making you able to rip through the levels, if you don't like it you can change the slam button to a double "y" tap in the options menu. The wall ride is also a great addition to play. The biggest issue i have with this game is the online features. They are headed in the right direction but still need work. I like how when you enter a level you can see other players as if you just arrived at the skate park. However, i would love a feature where you could choose a level to play high score on and have a server that sets up a huge game with 8+ players ripping through the map within a time limit for a score, or have all the different types of missions within the levels as game modes you can play on all the different maps. I often can't find anyone to play with in the maps. If this game had servers that instantly hooked you up with people trying to do the same this such as high score on school 3, longest accumulated air time on barrics, or longest accumulated grind time on bonfire beach etc. this game would have infinite replay ability for me. As far as the bugs go i couldn't care less, it prolongs the game and gives you a good laugh just like all the old games did. Bad graphics? first of all they are cartoon and not bad, they fit the game. Secondly who cares? if they don't worry about graphics you can expect more titles because it doesn't cost a butt load of money and work to make. This game is a true continuation of the series and i am happy with my purchase. I just wish there was more where that came from for the single player, and online high score matches with a lot of players to really test your skills with other players and give this game endless play ability. I give this game an 8 out of 10 because it's almost a perfect continuation of the series but still has room for improvement.

Next time throw in some grind variations by double tapping buttons like in the underground series and give us more spin ability similar to SSX on the ps3 and xbox 360. I don't care about realistic game play. I want the ability to put together the most ridiculous huge combos possible. Also give us bigger levels, more levels, more objectives in the levels, a bigger soundtrack, more character customization, and high score matches on 8+ lobbies for endless replay ability.

However, underneath those few issues is a solid game that has the spirit of the original THPS games, Robomodo and Distruptive games have done a decent job at recreating the feel of the PSOne THPS games and with a few patches to fix the problems and a couple of free DLC Pro Skaters and Levels, this could and will be an 8/10 easily.

    Negatives:
    - Low FPS and screen tearing in a few places.
    - Small amount of Levels.
    - Create-a-Park is glitchy at times and too limited.
    - Customise-a-character is very limited.
    - Random glitches that rarely stop a combo or line.

    Positives:
+ Levels feel like real skateparks with real skaters always around.
+ Proskaters and special guests are in decent supply (could be more though)
+ Combos are easier to string together than previous games.
    + Octodad
+ Game is fast and fluid when there aren't FPS slowdowns.
+ Cell-shaded look brings that arcade feel.
    + Soundtrack is pretty decent.

Its sad when a game 12 years older had more ambition and heart than a modern day successor
Tony Hawks Pro Skater 5 is completely lazy
Most people don’t like the cell shaded art style, I personally didn’t mind it all too much and is really the least of this games problems
Its littered with bugs and crashes, controls feel sloppy, and tricks feel way too simple.
The sound track is great but theres no list to view songs or toggle them on or off, you cant even create your own organic skater, and I don’t mean a vegan
youre only given the opportunity to change the skin on the games main characters
There is no campaign or characters to give out quests, youre given 8 hub worlds which are all unlocked by obtaining at least 15 of the 30 possible stars in side missions in the previous worlds
These freeskate hub worlds feature collectibles that unlock items and are decent in size but nowhere near the open world style we got back in the ps2 days and that’s incredibly sad
its like the parks were given the create a park limit underground had and they are completely dead other than the fact there are other players there too
The side missions are really just dumb mini games of do x amount of mounts in x time,
get all the balls out of the pool, break and collect stuff before time runs out.
    That’s it
the more stars you get the more money, unlockables and xp you get to level up and obtain skill points to spend on your character
After you’ve completed a 2 minute mini game you have to load back into the hub world and the load time is decent, but dreadfully frequent making them feel much longer.
There is a create a park mode that gives you a laughably small template and obstacle options, you can spend your time creating a masterpiece or a mess, you can fill the space both land and air anyway you please so there is plenty of opportunity to make amazing parks for your friends or others to play around in
I kind of feel like Pro skater 5 is relying way too much on mp to carry it when its mp isn’t anywhere as fun as it was 12 years ago with its sandbox style hide and seek type worlds
I wanted to love this game so much, but no heart or soul was put into it and I honestly cant recommend it.

SO many franchises are like hey remember that wildly popular local multiplayer experience.....Forget that. Hey remember the beauty and magic of creating your own skater and slowly becoming a legend....F**k putting that in. Remember glitching around in a room full of other online skaters while you struggle to complete combos without getting knocked over?? Wait you dont? Oh great well add that in then. Its like game creators now a-days couldnt care less about the desires of the gamer. Who spends 500 bucks on a console to play it alone?? Even the popular local coop franchises that built their dynasty on it are phasing it out....and why? Did we as gamers ever say we wanted to stop playing games with out friends? Of course we didnt. Playing games is and will always be a fun way to spend time with your buddies. Every xbox one game Ive looked into lately has made it shockingly obvious that they want you to spend the 500 bucks a piece on a console if you wanna play with friends and its garbage. The missions in maps were unable to be accessed in certain lobbies.....and the graphics....dont even get me started on the graphics....They are shockingly bad. Why did I buy a next gen console to play a game that looks like the intro to 360? As Im typing this review Ive re-positioned my rating from a 2 to a zero because this game fails to recapture any of the magic of the franchise. Tony Hawk himself should be ashamed to attach his name to such an incomplete game. Thank you THPS for convincing me to never buy a game without sufficient research again. I award you no points and may god have mercy on your soul. Expand

Although I don't consider myself a "fan" of any game series, I can safely say that the Tony Hawk franchise has always been one of my favorite, because when I was 7 years old, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 on the Playstation was the best game ever. I went on to play every consecutive Tony Hawk game, and loved every second of them. But, it's 2015, and it's been 13 years since THPS4.

I went on to play every consecutive Tony Hawk game, and loved every second of them. But, it's 2015, and it's been 13 years since THPS4.

For fans and newcomers alike, the latest installment in the Tony Hawk franchise, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5, will disappoint you.

From poor framerate stability to 2005 graphics, the game itself is on the edge of failure. There are things that stand out, however, like the classic "feel" from previous games, or even the seem-less multiplayer experience. Onto the Pros and Cons of the game:

    Pros:

    - Classic Feel of the previous Tony Hawk games.

    - Seem-less Multiplayer experience, which lets you skate around in levels with other skaters from around the world.

    - The Slam feature; It can really help in situations where you know you're going too fast to hit a gap.

    - Level-Specific "Power ups"; On the level Mega Park, for example, you can run over some sort of skater icon that turns your skater into a giant. It can prove useful in some areas of said level.

    Cons:

    - Frame rate issues; The framerate tends to dip well below 30 fps when there are too many online players around or too many particle effects on the screen.

    - Unconventional control scheme; Well, first of all, none of it can be changed. Your skater can be stationary if you use the joystick down or the left trigger to brake, the latter being preferred since it is more responsive in this game. Needless to say, the brake feature is not a bad thing. What is, however, is that the character cannot go from a stand-still to a smooth and slow acceleration process. It's like playing a racing game with a keyboard, your gas pedal becomes an on/off switch. If you're caught in a situation where you need to make a small adjustment in positioning from a stand-still position, you're screwed. Your character won't go smoothly forward, it's either 0 or 50 and above.

    - Annoying level design; Especially the level Rooftops, which can get very frustrating to navigate in.

    - Graphics; Although Activision said that they have changed the art style a few months ago, it still looks like they didn't have enough time on their hands to fully polish the game.

    - Lack of Split-Screen Co-op; A big part of why so many people loved Tony Hawk games. It's not a big deal in 2015 because so many people prefer playing online, but I still feel like it should have been an option either way.

I would recommend this game only to hardcore fans of the franchise, anyone else may be severely disappointed for a 60$ game.

If you liked Tony Hawk 3 and 4, this one is close to those. I am a big fan of the classic Tony Hawk games and haven't played any of the recent ones (besides HD) or EA's Skate. My review is only about comparing THPS5 to the classics I enjoyed so much.

The good: -This is the hardest Tony Hawk when it comes to challenges. This alone is taking me hours per map. -There are tons of stats

    The good:

-This is the hardest Tony Hawk when it comes to challenges. This alone is taking me hours per map.
-There are tons of stats and emblems to unlock and challenges to do.
-It brings back a lot of the things I missed about the classic games.
-I was immediately able to pick it up and feel at home after a 10 year break from THPS games.

    The Bad:

    -The graphics aren't the best.
-The "retry" function on a mission is infuriating. If I choose retry, don't put a loading bar around the retry button and make me double confirm after a 5 second wait.
-The menus and getting around is not easy.
-At launch at least, the quick join for missions doesn't work in the free skate mode.
-The controls are the same as they are in Tony Hawk HD (clunkier than the PS2 and Dreamcast versions of old).

I still gave the game a 7 because these negatives, to me, do not make the game unplayable or that much less enjoyable. I still enjoy the game quite a bit. I advise watching some videos and making the decision for yourself.

This game is absolutely terrible. The controls are clunky, especially with the 'slam down' function and the gameplay is executed horribly. You're dumped into a freeskate mode in which you skate with other players, but there's literally no reason for them to be there at all. The way multiplayer and missions are executed is horrendous. Every time you accept a mission you're met with a loading screen while it transports you out of the freeskate area and into an isolated mission instance. When you complete it you're met with another load back into freeskate. Not seamless at all. Same goes for the multiplayer. This is something out of the PS2 era, not modern video games.

The game is one of, if not the ugliest current gen game. Heck it's ugly even in early 360 / PS3 standards. Stay away from this garbage.

Insanely bad. Anyone who scores this over a 5 is braindead or it's the first video game they've ever played. An insult to Tony Hawk games. Pure garbage.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 is not a complete disaster. The majority of its flaws and maybe even some of the problems could be overlooked if the game were simply more fun to play. However, even had that been the case, THPS5 comes nowhere near justifying a full $60 price tag. It’s disheartening to see a once proud series come to its likely end in such a fashion.

It is impossible to look past the constant problems and bugs. Most of these don't make the game unplayable, but still cause a lot of bother along the way.

A disgrace. When double jumps aren't the worst part, something's gone terribly wrong. [Dec 2015, p.78]
