This game is nothing but digital waste. How any company would dare to ask $60 for a game with minimal content and a multitude of technical bugs, I cannot fathom. Now let me briefly go into the gameplay and presentation: As ugly as the game is, it still suffers from major framerate drops. The "seamless" online interaction is buggy and even the music suffers from hiccups. All the stages are uninspired and could literally be made in the Create-A-Park mode by anyone with 15 minutes to spare. The controls are just slightly less clunky than in Tony Hawk HD but you will probably be too annoyed with technical problems to even notice.

This game is a disgrace to the Tony Hawk franchise and you should avoid it at ALL COSTS.

This is perhaps the worst game I've ever installed onto my xbox, and the biggest waste of money i've ever had the misfortune to spend on gaming, ever. I stupidly ignored the reviews and bought it on the slim hope I could recreate the fun and joy from the original games... nope, all I got was a stinking, steaming pile of dog waste. Avoid at all costs.

Insanely bad. Anyone who scores this over a 5 is braindead or it's the first video game they've ever played. An insult to Tony Hawk games. Pure garbage.

SO many franchises are like hey remember that wildly popular local multiplayer experience.....Forget that. Hey remember the beauty and magic of creating your own skater and slowly becoming a legend....F**k putting that in. Remember glitching around in a room full of other online skaters while you struggle to complete combos without getting knocked over?? Wait you dont? Oh great well add that in then. Its like game creators now a-days couldnt care less about the desires of the gamer. Who spends 500 bucks on a console to play it alone?? Even the popular local coop franchises that built their dynasty on it are phasing it out....and why? Did we as gamers ever say we wanted to stop playing games with out friends? Of course we didnt. Playing games is and will always be a fun way to spend time with your buddies. Every xbox one game Ive looked into lately has made it shockingly obvious that they want you to spend the 500 bucks a piece on a console if you wanna play with friends and its garbage. This game is garbage. The online only rooms dont make any sense. The missions in maps were unable to be accessed in certain lobbies.....and the graphics....dont even get me started on the graphics....They are shockingly bad. Why did I buy a next gen console to play a game that looks like the intro to 360? As Im typing this review Ive re-positioned my rating from a 2 to a zero because this game fails to recapture any of the magic of the franchise. Tony Hawk himself should be ashamed to attach his name to such an incomplete game. Thank you THPS for convincing me to never buy a game without sufficient research again. I award you no points and may god have mercy on your soul. Expand

Really bad game overall. Arguing that "The graphics are like the old and good ones" does not mean that a 2015 game need to look that bad. Without mentioning the bugs all over the place. They just try to keep the game alive to avoid copyright issues.

The way multiplayer and missions are executed is horrendous. Every time you accept a mission you're met with a loading screen while it transports you out of the freeskate area and into an isolated mission instance. When you complete it you're met with another load back into freeskate. Not seamless at all. Same goes for the multiplayer. This is something out of the PS2 era, not modern video games.

The game is one of, if not the ugliest current gen game. Heck it's ugly even in early 360 / PS3 standards. Stay away from this garbage.

I went into the store today planning to pre-order something but I saw that the new Tony Hawk was out and I might as well check it out - the worst thing that could happen is that I return it with my satisfaction guarantee and just put down the money on the pre-order anyways. Turns out, this is exactly what happened in the first morning that I had it.

The "honest" review seems to not at all take into account any of the negatives and gives points for things like "I can have Octodad's head on a robot body" which puts priorities.. rather out of order. From top to bottom the game is a mess and I think if you honestly had the chance to ask anyone who worked on it, they'd say the same thing.

    1. The style of game that we're looking at here is the old style, numbered Tony Hawks. That is alright in a sense, that was hot stuff when it came out and even on the HD release people were loving it. But here's the thing, and it has been pointed out before - the levels are in no way as creative as ANY of the other levels from the numbered Tony Hawk games. They're kind of sad, barren and sterile and they absolutely do look like they were just made with the course creator that comes with the game. That is a huge disappointment.

I feel like in general, people wanted Tony Hawk back but they wanted back the THUG or American Wasteland type game. One where you started out as someone who has aspirations of making it big, you get sponsorships, you get new gear, you skate in actual location with people around. That isn't a big stretch and older Tony Hawk games had that. It's nothing anywhere near the people who'll tell you "this isn't a Skate game" because the Tony Hawk that I knew and loved had complex levels, a decent story and more to do than "get points and get letters" in different combinations.

    2. The graphics are bad and they were changed last minute so "even if you had 20 people online, the frame rate is going to stay at 60 FPS". You read that? That is an actual quote from the developers and going to this pseudo-cel shaded look just pushes another point more - this should be FAR less than a full priced title (80 dollars + tax in Canada) and it should be up for download only. Besides that point, the frames drop anyways when I am playing ALONE - and this is regardless of the day 1 patch that is double the size of the actual install of the game.

    3. Very little in terms of real customization. The relatively small roster of guys is complimented with a few others but the lack of a create your own skater is really thrown off here.

They really could've had something if they made this game a downloadable title and just slashed the heck out of the price tag - because honestly, it would be fun to play for spurts here or there and it basically is the feel of the Tony Hawk games which always felt good. But with the idea of a reduced price in my head, I've soured on this a lot. The levels just aren't fun, it's repetitive, it's buggy and it leaves me with a huge feeling of what could have been instead of what there is in front of me.

Robosucko or any other company simply isnt capable of making these games the way they deserve to be made. I am sure several people already have gone through the laundry list of things worng with the game, so im going to skip that. Instead im going to point out the things that bothered ME the most.

    1. They put lil waynk in the game! I mean as stupid as octodad is to have in the game this 1 move says everything about how seriously they take game development.

    2. The soundtrack is generic rubbish. Usually a hallmark of tony hawk pro skater games this time it seriously all sounds like garbage they found on soundcloud.

    3. Slamming sucks! At first i thought it was a neat mechanic, but oh no.. it DESTROYS all your muscle memory from the previous games, you essentially have to re-learn how to play and do combos (more on that in a minute). I think the mechanic itself is part of the developers lack of ability, they couldnt get the physics to work properly so they added a way to force gravity.

    4. In a move pretty common among older franchises (::ahem:: elderscrolls! ) they have made alot of mechanics retard easy for the learning impaired children of today. For example it used to be when you lost your "balance" in a manual or grind you FELL, not anymore, nope you just skate right out of it and lose your combo. Maybe its to make up for the asinine slam mechanic being so unwieldy or something but you cant chain tricks together like you used to because theres some sort of "safety" animation in there.

    5. No more custom specials. As with #4 they nolonger feel players need to perform quick combos to do special tricks, instead you hit the bumper and you ARE special (kids these days are so "special" it make me want to vomit).. everything you do will AUTOMATICALLY BE a special. I find it insulting, you also cant customize what these "special" tricks are for the record.

    6. The art style doesnt fit. Its some sort of hybrid cell shading and it really just looks like sloppy filth i have been seeing on pc for years.. why develop a game using the unreal engine if its going to look and behave like some piece of trash some indie devs made with effing unity?

    7. The menu buttons are in the wrong place.. (im inclined to call them start and select) yea, you hit the menu button on the left and it pulls up a menu pane on the right and vice versa. So the question becomes did a mentally deficient person design this game, or did they just not listen to playtesters AT ALL? While its technically a separate gripe entirely in just going to shoe-horn in here the fact that the voice chat is also OFF by default when in free skate.. yes you have to go into the options menu and turn it on.. IDIOCY!

    8. Menus. As you go through the game sometimes you will want to add or remove stats to complete objectives (more grind, speed, or manual), to do this you have to COMPLETELY leave the session you are in and go to the main menu and then edit your skater. Since everything is online this means load screens which means a pain in the ass because you then have to go back INTO the map you were just on and choose the mission to do. You also cant simply switch maps.. oh no.. you get to make that trip BACK to the main menu to choose another level.

    9. The physics are just plain sloppy. Some times you have to hit balls out of a pool for example, but there seems to be no real rhyme or reason to how far they go when hit at a certain speed. Alot of the times when trying to initiate a tight grind you end up doing a lip trick or cheesing it entirely (because of the asinine slam mechanic). Its just not FUN anymore at this point, its frustrating. Again as a fan of the franchise i am VERY used to frustration, but when the problem isnt my skills but wanker coding its a very different feeling.

    10. Generic everything, but especially skaters. Why have any more than 1 skater if they are all going to essentially have the same stats and since skins are unlockable? Theres really no reason FOR It! BUT they went through whatever they went through to put lil waynk in the game.. i hope they dont pay that assclown for anything.. if anything i hope he bankrolled the entire development. The skins you unlock are also less than impressive, be it stickers or heads, bodys or boards theres just variations on 1 thing or another. Several snow man heads, several bucket heads, several cop uniforms, several logos with different color backgrounds. THERE IS NOTHING SPECIAL HERE!

Having typed this all out i hope it helps somebody. i was going to give it a 4 when i first started typing, but having actually spit it all out its getting a 2. No really, thats all it deserves.. i didnt even cover the gimmick poewerups.

Okay, so the actual game is terrible. The controls are ripped straight from THPSHD, except they're somehow LESS responsive than a game on PS3/360 which was, in turn, less responsive than a game on the PS2.

The soundtrack is pretty bad, but it's not "kill me please" bad. I mean, it has SOME punk in it, but it's a lot more poppy than before. What happened to the days of Bad Religion, Rage Against the Machine and Motorhead?

The game is embarrassingly ugly. I don't get why, but the teaser video had pretty mediocre graphics and they're somehow worse in the retail version. Textures take several centuries to load, it can't decide whether it wants to be 30 frames a second or FOUR frames a second, the UI looks like it was made as a high schooler's Unity project.

I stopped playing after about an hour. I really cannot stand this game. According to people who suffered through the entire thing, it doesn't get better. Through the glitches and server issues, the horrible graphics and the dull soundtrack, DO. NOT. BUY. THIS. GAME.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 is not a complete disaster. The majority of its flaws and maybe even some of the problems could be overlooked if the game were simply more fun to play. However, even had that been the case, THPS5 comes nowhere near justifying a full $60 price tag. It’s disheartening to see a once proud series come to its likely end in such a fashion.
