    Tiles doesn’t bring anything revolutionary to the table, with bog standard coloured squares being the order of the day. The puzzling nature involved is mildly enjoyable though, figuring out the ideal route of some crazy layouts. My main issue lies within the ridiculous speed needed to overcome levels featuring those darn yellow tiles and just how early on in the game it ramps the difficulty up to frustrating heights.

    Played in small doses, Tiles is a fun time waster if you’ve only got a short time to play something and don’t want to get too involved. If you’re looking for a fun puzzler for around $5 with near endless levels, Tiles has you covered, just prepare for a challenging and bland experience that will have your fingers begging for a break afterword.

    I love playing a little puzzle game every now and then and that’s mainly because they’re easy to get to grips with and don’t tend to be tooI love playing a little puzzle game every now and then and that’s mainly because they’re easy to get to grips with and don’t tend to be too taxing and that’s exactly what you get with Tiles, and whilst it may not be the best puzzle game in the whole world I still found it to be pretty enjoyable at times. The gameplay is as simple as it gets but don’t let that fool you because they do have some very challenging puzzles, but in my opinion they’ve got the difficulty balanced perfectly. Whilst the gameplay may be simple I would however have still liked more in the form of a tutorial because at first you don’t know what the different coloured tiles do so expect a bit of frustration at times. The amount of content in the game is absolutely fantastic and when you couple that with the price of the game you definitely get great value for money. I will say though that even though it has a lot of content it is still best played in short periods because things can get tedious quite quickly and that’s mainly down to the fact that the content is pretty much the same throughout, unless you go on the user generated content. Without a doubt this is the best and most enjoyable way to play the game because you can design a number of different levels and this without a doubt gives the game some replay value. The control scheme in the game is as simple as it gets and most important of all they have made sure that everything remains fluid and responsive throughout, which is very important in a game like this. The presentation side of the game was nothing special and unfortunately I found it a little lacklustre. Visually there is nothing much that stands out, but that wasn’t a problem for me. The main problem for me was the sound design and the reason it was a problem is because there is no variety and the music grates on your nerves very quickly. At the end of the day Tiles is a game that doesn’t try to be spectacular in any way and for the most part the basic approach works quite well. It does however grow stale quite quickly and it doesn’t have the same appeal as some of the other game’s in the genre, but that doesn’t stop me from giving it a small recommendation because the value you get for your money is very good indeed.… Full Review »
