    If you have a couple of evenings free you owe it to yourself to take The Path of Motus. Your journey will be remembered for a long time.

    The Path of Motus is not going to blow you away, but if you’ve ever endured the matters of its sensitive subject material, I highly recommend that you consider diving in. The gameplay itself is nicely paced and presents a gradual challenge that will test your morality, as well as your platforming and puzzle solving skills. Unfortunately, however, its short length and its basic visuals hold it back to some degree.

    The Path of Motus is short and not worth the money to purchase. If you don’t care about achievements, then you’ll get even less out of the game. The story is dull, and the characters are uninspiring. While you won’t hate your brief time with the game, you won’t exactly have much fun either. Everything does seem to run smoothly, and there are fast load times, but that’s seemingly because there’s so little to go wrong. Puzzles seem thrown in to delay you from completing the game too quickly. After gaining all of the achievements, there’s literally no replay value whatsoever.

You might know him from certain games like Pillar and Sentenia games released for the 360 on the indie section.

    In this game you play as Motus a troll with a dream to do more, his village is covered in this forest that nobody can find a way out of. Many have tried but all have failed but you as Motus believes he can find a way out and on his journey he encounters bullies who are there to stop him, but he uses his words to beat them.

    Now while this game appears to be like any other platformer you have played before but it’s not. At first it starts off very basic but then it brings this unique way of fighting to the table. By literally using your words each action button says a different word and while this might seem simplistic at first. Some bullies can only be attacked with a certain word as if only a certain thing hurts their feelings and this is why I feel it’s amazing with what Michael did here. This only scratches the surface with how deep this game goes.

    There is also a change up in the gameplay but using this very unique style of puzzling that doesn’t make you feel like it’s a waste but it’s refreshing with what it does. While this can be a bit hard at times it really does make you think and try to get through it. After making you struggle through puzzles it does feel rewarding when you get through it. Micheal also makes a good use of easter eggs in these optional caves that’s not really part of the story, it only holds collectible pages that adds to the back story which is something I want to touch on.

    He does such a good job at telling this story about bullying that I feel comes from a personal place. Throughout the game you have bullies who are literally there to give you a message that you should give up and stop trying because your life is worthless, but you as the player pushes on, you don’t give up and you see how Motus achieves what he set out to do and that’s make a difference. That’s why I said this is coming from a personal place, like a lot of us in our lives people doubt us and with good reason. We usually have ambitious goals that nobody thinks we can achieve. This is why I feel the over-arching message here is to never give up on your dreams and to always believe in yourself no matter what.

    This is why I love story driven indie games at times because these guys pour their hearts and souls into these games and they have such powerful messages behind them. I couldn’t help but get reminded of a time where this happened in my life and I could relate to the story in my own way, I think this was what micheal was trying to do. Even when you complete the game it provides new puzzles and collectibles and this is what did it for me. The “high roads” collectibles which is throughout the levels now I at first couldn’t understand how to collect. You have to get pass certain sections of the game without hurting the bullies, so you have to be better even when they bully you. Which at first I didn’t get but it provides a nice challenge.

    Do I feel the game is worth your time I say yes, apart from certain things like the game not saving and a few puzzles feeling almost impossible at times Other than that for a game only made by 2 people mostly they did an incredible job at telling a story and I wish all the best for micheal and any else he works on.    … Expand

    I love game’s that tackle serious everyday problems that people go through because I’m sure it makes the people that are going through theseI love game’s that tackle serious everyday problems that people go through because I’m sure it makes the people that are going through these problems feel that they’re not on their own. Bullying is something that I absolutely despise and it affects people in many different ways and I must admit I didn’t expect The Path of Motus to be as deep as it was. You can tell right from the get go that a lot of love and effort has gone into all areas of the game and that’s what makes this game stand out quite considerably. I will admit now that I didn’t expect the story to be as good as it was let alone powerful and as you progress through the game the story makes you go through a number of different emotions and it stays with you long after completion. In terms of the gameplay there are quite a few interesting and in some ways unique mechanics in play quite a lot of the time and in a way this makes the game stand out even more. The crux of this game though is its platforming elements and thankfully I’m pleased to say that the platforming has been done to perfection. I also have to give a special mention to the game’s controls because not once did they let me down throughout my time with the game. This is a very good thing as well because in terms of difficulty the game can become quite difficult from time to time. I don’t think the difficulty would have been as much of a problem if it didn’t come out of the blue as much as it did, but even though I struggled every now and then I did appreciate the challenge. You’ll find the most challenging aspects to be included in the game’s puzzles, which might I add have been done very well. Each puzzle fits in with the game’s story extremely well and the amount of variety present in them means they very rarely get tedious, which is always a good thing. A few more puzzles would’ve been nice though and in fact more content on the whole would’ve been nice because the game is quite short, but at least the content that is here has been done extremely well. Another aspect of the game that’s been done extremely well is the game’s presentation. Visually the game has a nice charming look to it and the accompanying sound design combines with the visuals really well making the story become even more of an immersive experience. At the end of the day The Path of Motus provided me with an experience that I’m unlikely to forget any time soon. It tackles important issues head on and does them justice and if you like a powerful story mixed in with decent platforming then I thoroughly recommend that you check this game out.… Expand
