    The gameplay is simple, yet challenging and rewarding, and the narrative is told with accomplishment and beauty. But most of all it is the themes that I got the most out of The Last Campfire on Xbox One – in these times of uncertainty it is a game that promotes hope, friendship and kindness. It’s a game that I’m more than happy to give my time to.

    The Last Campfire teaches us that a flame can be rekindled and that we should not be let down by difficulties encountered throughout our lives. What a pity that the technique does not always follow… without these little clashes, The Last Campfire would come close to perfection in its category.

    The Last Campfire sets out what it promises to do, tell a heart-warming and tear-jerking story about life, death, and the emotions one feels when all hope seems lost. While the narrative does take a few beats to get started, the real problem lies in the overly simple puzzles that the game is built on. It’s a lovely experience that is quickly forgotten.

Enigmatic and mysterious, the emotional story dwells on ideas of loss and regret, before concluding with a message of hope and cooperation. I was expecting a more or less lighthearted outlook, but it's actually a pretty melancholy game. Many of the other souls who have gotten lost have turned to stone because they lacked hope. The Last Campfire is a pleasant surprise. Next to No Man's Sky procedurally generated near-infinite universe, it might be fair to call it a "Hello Games Short", but it's not a mere vignette. The somber themes that underpin its peaceful, whimsical world are much bigger than its own studio gives it credit for. I rather enjoyed the experience myself.… Full Review »
