    The King's Bird sports an awesome art style and some very interesting gameplay mechanics; it fails to meaningfully evolve the initial concept though, ending up in a rather repetitive experience, and with some control problems too.

    I wanted a bit more variation in the gameplay, but overall there is no denying that The King’s Bird is a solid platformer in a beautiful world.

    The King’s Bird is an utterly challenging platformer that’s perhaps, oftentimes, more frustrating than it needs to be. Further hindrance is found in its slightly unresponsive handling, together with its wildly fluctuating difficulty curve. That being said, if you can muster the perseverance and precision to see it through, you’ll find a pleasant, warm, and somewhat endearing adventure buried underneath its convolution.

    The amount of time needed to master the end parts of the game seem broken and unfair. Difficult just to be known as difficult. Practice makes perfect, but if you don’t enjoy practicing then you’re bound for failure. The King’s Bird barely gets my recommendation, but enough of it was good for me to say it’s pretty decent.

    I enjoyed the attention to detail when it came to the visual aspect of the game and the sound design that accompanied was also done well. The moving and flying physics feel great and when you finally get the hang of them you get a very enjoyable and rewarding feeling. There is a decent amount of variety present in each of the levels and I liked how they eased me in when it came to the game’s different mechanics. While it can be a little bit too challenging from time to time I still think they did a good job of keeping the frustration levels down. Unfortunately the controls don’t always feel as tight and responsive as they should be which does cause you a few problems. Getting used to the camera takes quite a while because it seems to move when you least expect it culminating in some difficult moments. Technically the game suffers with a few issues every now and then which did impact on the immersion levels a little. I often find that when it comes to the platforming genre there isn’t enough games that truly challenge you. That being said there is a game that pops up every now and then that challenges you in a good way and The King’s Bird does just that. From the moment I started this game then I knew I was in for a challenge because the uniqueness of the movement and flying physics are hard to master at first. When you do get the hang of these physics though the rewarding feeling you get when you complete a level is off the charts. You will however have to deal with a few issues along the way though and I think the controls add some unnecessary problems due to them not always feeling as tight and responsive as they should. You also have to deal with a reckless moving camera as well because the camera does throw up a few bumps on the road to completing a level. I did however get used to this after a while and when I did I truly appreciated the variety in the levels and I also fell in love with the visuals and sound design because they did a fantastic job of making the gameplay come to life. At the end of the day then whilst The King’s Bird doesn’t offer you a perfect experience it still gets more right than it gets wrong and the uniqueness buried within it means fans of platformers will thoroughly enjoy what this game has to offer.… Full Review »
