I have spent a total of $0 on this game and have enjoyed at least 30 hours of gameplay already. I've tried the blade build and the gun build so far and both are interesting. I'll pay $4 each for the magic and engineer character types if and when I'm done with what I have now. This game is about 75% of Diablo 3 at a 95% discount so far.

Very interesting action-adventure RPG with a nice steam-punk twist. While free, it's easily worth it. At $10 and two more character types with additional maps/missions, this is still definitely worth your time.

I know some have complained about the co-op missions but I'm 30 hours in and haven't ever TRIED co-op yet. If that's a requirement for you, Halo 5 is a MUCH better choice.

I was gonna be really really clever and be the 1st meta reviewer to review a free game and give it a zero because of mediocre co-op & ignore the fact that it's probably the most unique Xbox live gold game since,,,,,,well considering gold games tend to suck and the 360 gold games are games we all bought & played 3-4 years ago= expectations are low.....but I guess some reviewers are gonnaI was gonna be really really clever and be the 1st meta reviewer to review a free game and give it a zero because of mediocre co-op & ignore the fact that it's probably the most unique Xbox live gold game since,,,,,,well considering gold games tend to suck and the 360 gold games are games we all bought & played 3-4 years ago= expectations are low.....but I guess some reviewers are gonna review a free game by comparing it's co-op prowess to that of Borderlands or Diablo.

--I just started & the game seems very similar to Diablo. The enemies and the way they rush you is Diablo/Gauntlet style,,but no game let alone a free game can compare to most over developed game ever....but so far the game seems cool because Creatures of the night are fun to destroy...
--umm I recommend you splurge on the hard drive space. If you can afford the space ;)
---seriously, use Xbox website or app and accept the free way you own it without having to Install it. Maybe one day if there's absolutely nothing to play........

This ARPG is basically a single-player version of of Diablo 2 with some witty dialogue. The story is even more forgettable and overly-campy than D2's. Awkward controls, hordes and hordes of the same enemies time and time again, lots of loading between areas (which creates a problem if you choose the "rezz at town" option after dying)...

The real name of this game is The Incredible Adventures of BUG Helsing. If you try to play coop mode you will suffer a tons of Incredibles bugs and it is imposible to play.

I do like these style of games. For me it just feels like a ripoff of Diablo 3 with a lame Van Helsing storyline. Controls are akward. The one thing I do like about this game is the character and companion builds are pretty cool.

The first entry in the top-down, ARPG series makes it's way to the Xbox One. It's got plenty of loot, tons of hacking and slashing, and a solid amount of content. While it doesn't top the likes of Diablo it y to be provides enough enjoyable gameplay to be worth a look for genre fans.

The game is really all about the combat. The in your face style of action is what makes it enjoyable, but also makes it kind of monotonous. The game is constantly throwing wave after wave of enemies at you to carve and shoot your way through. It ensures that there's always something happening to keep you entertained, but as it progresses and the enemies beef up I found myself occasionally stepping into sequences of kill, die, respawn, and repeat. It can get tedious to go through these motions again and again.

By the time the credits roll the game has already begun to overstay it's welcome. I appreciate the level of variety in enemy design and the cool abilities you get to unlock. However about the millionth time I was swarmed by an army of enemies I began wishing I could just reach that final boss already (who also swarm you with hundreds of enemies).

Those looking for some good writing are likely to find themselves disappointed. I found the story uninteresting. A shame given the character and expected horror vibe. What we get is a really campy affair. One filled with references, cheesy jokes, an (intentionally?) bad voice acting. I got few chuckles here and there due to some out of place feeling movie references, but this is a game that's going to make you want to skip the dialog.

It's dedication to constant action is part of what gives the game it's appeal, even if it does end up exhausting players by the end. Those in the mood for a Diablo style RPG could do a lot worse. It's a shame you have to pay for other playable classes, but the core gameplay and extra modes make up for it. It's not without it's flaws, but Van Helsing has enough good things going for it to make it worth exploring and looting it's dungeons in the "incredible adventure."

A Great games who’s flaws come out the longer you play
You’re a monster hunters, you start the game choosing your character and entering the van helsing world to you want monster hunters do... hunt monsters.. And you do so with your ghost companion Katarina
The game can be played solo or with up to 4 players online, but the online community is fairly empty... no one joined my game the entire time…
The online is great and runs smoothly even with the worst connections…
This is a top down hack and slash game with both close and long ranged weapons…
for the first half of this 10-12 hour long campaign it’s a genuine joy running around doing missions and side quests.. Slicing through the different creatures... picking up their dropped loot…
exploring the, at first interesting maps… finding its secrets and treasures... managing your inventory…
selling your unwanted weapon and gear or dismantling and combining them to craft new weapons...
leveling up and dumbing your points in the vast skill and perk trees…
This is a very deep game full of combat customizations to make you character feel uniquely yours
and your ghost companion feels uniquely yours... I had 0 complaints…
and then the final stretch of this game...
    is just awful…
The maps go from beautiful to generic and grey… and the way this game tries to challenge your ruins the gameplay…
This game has all sorts of magic and special moves you can assign to commands for combat that at first feel like they have a decent cool down time.. And then you’re in the final chapter and all of the balance this game had for the past 8 hours disappears
the games idea of challenge isn’t having you dodge attacks of larger enemies or using strategy to take them out...
its throwing dozens on top of you to frustratingly kill you over and over, forcing you to have to use all of your gold to respawn anywhere but back in the lair or town…
while you desperately try to take out 1 or 2 of the enemies per respawn…
And your ghost companion is dying instantly.. Practically having no reason to even be there…
getting no kills... just really being a distraction while you try to get some heavy ranged attacks in there because close combat weapons are useless at this stage of the game…
She practically just follows you around for 12 hrs. and nags you about how nice it would be if you put some of your health potions in her inventory.
Put water into a bucket with holes? No thanks.
This spam attack of enemies got so bad that during one of the final missions that the frame rate dropped to 1 frame per second if not less.
The final stretch is near unbearable…
The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing is a great game for those that love diablo style gameplay…
But be wary before you go in thinking you’re gonna be some sword swing tank…
you’re gonna have a hard time getting to this games credits without a friend…

This game is like Diablo, only much worse. Visually it's "ok" but the controls are horrible and the game is just boring IMO. Yes, it's a lot cheaper than Diablo, but it's not worth my time.

Gamers will play Van Helsing because it scratches the itch for this type of action adequately at this price, but the repetitive action, awkward controls, poor graphics and strange tower defense levels make it feel like an unfinished title. Despite being a cheap (or free, on Xbox One) diversion, Van Helsing is a bad value, and a worse investment of players' time.

We are not sure why NeoCore Games released Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing on the Xbox One. A sudden change in difficulty, no story at all and now you have to pay for characters. No, with just a decent combat system, Van Helsing is not that incredible.
