The Forbidden Arts presents some nice ideas and a surprising variety in environments, but it gets all ruined by very bad performances and input detection problems and design choices that make it very frustrating to play.

You are a young Fire Mage named Phoenix, on a quest to master the art of Pyromancy (fire magic), and collect magical artifacts to save the world. The story is lacking, giving just enough to drive the game forward. At first glance, and as you start to play, you are greeted with a platforming level, then you arrive at one of the many 3D wanderable hubs. Hoping to use my combat in free roam, I was disappointed to find out that you can only jump and run in these areas. The one redeeming factor of the 3D areas is the hidden gold, giving you a reason to explore every crevice and corner of each hub. These areas also serve to connect the various main stages and contain challenges used to upgrade your equipment. You use the gold you collect to fix shrines and access the challenges, this gold is spread wide among the hubs and stages, and hunting it down can be a task, leading to a lot of dead end paths. The game itself is a mix of clunky combat on side scrolling platforms, panicking past every enemy as it doesn't take much to kill you, and your daggers can only do so much. The graphics feel outdated, but are smoothly rendered. With less than accurate combat, and a repetitive soundtrack, The Forbidden Arts, may not be one for the masses so maybe catch it on sale if this genre isn't necessarily one of your favorites. The forbidden arts is an action adventure platformer where you play as phoenix who sets out to master the element of fire, and im gonna just get right to the point.
    Don’t play this game.
The forbidden arts is just awful, from mechanics, to sounds, to graphics, to level design, to story.. I oculdnt take more than 2 hours of it…
It starts decent enough with its linear feeling platforming and wall jumping with the occasional enemy here and there, but it just quickly becomes overwhelming as it slaps you with exploration and enemies in a world that’s just a chore to get through…
Nothing here just feels like it sticks, this doesn’t feel like a game world, this feels like a pre alpha phased game, its like playing with power rnagers in a Barbie dream house, it just doesn’t feel right, theres something that feels off that stops any bit of emersion from happening…
And because of this, again the world just isn’t fun to explore, so I would’ve actually preferred levels to be linear platforming focused rather than dashes of metroidvania style thrown in here…
The gameplay is so unfun that I go to a point where I would just ignore everything including enemies, I would just hop over them and move on if I could rather than engage in combat.
No matter how hard I search or thing, I can find one redeemable quality here
The combat is unfun, the world design feels just there.. the platforming isn’t fun… the double jump only works when it wants to…
The forbidden arts hurts my heart just to play or think of playing
    I give forbidden arts
    a 2/10
