Adventures of Bertram Fiddle Episode 1: A Dreadly Business only clocks in at less than two hours for completion of all four chapters, which is a slight disappointment, but the time spent is sure to bring plenty of humour. There’s a cracking cast of characters, a decidedly British script and some truly wacky moments as you delve into the lives of Victorian London’s residents.

When it comes to episodic games, first impressions are everything. Sadly, The Adventures of Bertram Fiddle’s opening episode is a mixed bag of pros and cons. Whilst the art direction is outstanding and the story remains humorously dark, there’s very little complexity on show as far as the game’s puzzles are concerned. Further to that, it’s a relatively short experience that lasts little over an hour. Subsequent episodes certainly need to pick up the slack.

This game is a point and click that delivers a totally different experience then you are used to with the genre. It isn't overly complicated, it isn't loaded with mini games. It's just a really relaxing and hilarious experience. You play as Bertram Fiddle an explorer that dabbles in detective work. He isn't having a great day his wife is demanding he go out today, and find a job. She also wants him to take their pet dog out to be groomed. While doing so though the carrying case his dog is in get's swapped with another person's. The thing is the person's case happens to be Geoff the Murderer a evil presence that is terrorizing the city of London. That even the great Sherlock Holmes hasn't been able to capture. So now Betram and his sidekick Cyclops Gavin must run him down to get his dog back and rid the city of the evil villain.
The game's attraction in my opinion is the story, hilarious characters, and Victorian London and all of it's glamour. It does a really hilarious job at showing the glamorous upper class and lower class citizens, and poking fun at both, It really delivers with some hilarious characters like some creepy twins that look straight out of The Shining. They even have really hilarious names that are a joke them self. I don't know how many times while reading dialogue I caught on to some ones name and laughed out loud. The voice acting is amazing as well, maybe some of the best I've heard in awhile. They really add to the atmosphere and hilarious moments.
Besides the story and comedy there isn't really much else. There isn't a lot of mini games like you get in point and clicks or even puzzles. There is a couple chase scenes where you dodge obstacles they are over really quickly though, The whole game actually ends pretty quickly as you can finish it in a little over an hour. Quicker if you know what your doing, and skip dialogue. It is still a funny little adventure worth your time. It really should be played at least once, and I'm really looking forward to the other episodes. I hope they deliver them quickly.

    Pros: Really funny
    Amazing Voice acting
    Simple relaxing puzzling
    Really good music

Cons: Not a lot of puzzles and mini games
    A little short

Overall: 7.0 A really fun and funny point and click adventure that really delivers the charm and comedy of Victorian London. Really worth a play through for Achievement hunters and fans of comedy games.

In a quirky sense of a victorian London inhabited by strange characters, and self proclaimed lead explorer names Bertram Fiddle, finds himself in a bit of jam. You must assist him in following the clues and track down the elusive serial killer known as Geoff the murderer before he kills again. It is quite possibly one of the finest point-and-click dark driven comedy murder mystery adventure games to play in the genre with my main complaint being the game's 1st episode only being about an hour long. That side the 1st episode of The Adventures of Bertram Fiddle: A Dreadly Business is full of intrigue, murder, mystery, and the worst dark puns this value priced episode money can buy. With beautifully animated graphical style and many locations to explore, an original soundtrack, unique voice acting, and intense action sequences all topped off with high definition graphics. Hopefully this mixed bag's future episodes are able to pull it all together as they have a great formula to provide an amazing experience we will just have to see where this episodic adventure leads us to in the coming months.
