Tears of Avia is a new RPG of turn-based strategy fights with some good characters that sadly star in a very repetitive adventure, with a not very original story and lacking personality.

Although Tears of Avia features lovely art, serviceable gameplay, and fun skills, it's such a mess of a game that it's difficult to thoroughly enjoy, especially when you reach its insane difficulty spikes.

Tears of Avia on Xbox One is the very definition of an underachiever. It feels unfinished in almost every regard, and the combat is functional at best but offers nothing compelling in terms of gameplay variety or depth. There is a tactical turn-based RPG at the core, but nothing about it is designed to reel a player in or make them want to stick around.

With sluggish combat and not much in the way of new ideas, it's hard to recommend Tears of Avia to all but the most hardcore tactics fans.

As a basic introduction to tactical RPGs, there are worse games to choose than Tears of Avia… but there are also so many better. However, with the amount of brokenness present in the content, I just can’t recommend it.

Tears Of Avia is a 3rd Person Tactical RPG Adventure. This is one of the first times in a long time i was given the option of my mainTears Of Avia is a 3rd Person Tactical RPG Adventure. This is one of the first times in a long time i was given the option of my main character an an RPG, that I didn't create myself. You're given the option to play as one of five characters! Don't get excited yet, as this doesn't change much but a little dialogue, as all five characters comprise your party, and you end up playing with all of them anyways. The World is in strife from demon armies, and artifacts known as the Tears hold the key to entering this dimension to stop the evil demons and save the world. Pretty standard RPG story. The gameplay doesn't take any liberties or risks either. You control your party, turn based on an open grid. Move, Attack, use Items or Skills. The animations are dreadful slow, and combat happens in real time for the most part, with no ability to fast forward the action. Larger battles can feel so drawn out and cumbersome as the animations are slow and meticulous. At the start you feel powerful, and with this feeling is no reason to grind to advance your characters. Early combat felt like it had zero risk, as you out powered your enemies by a considerable margin. It's a beautifully made game, with a great Anime aesthetic but the ability to speed up the combat would make the game ten times more fun to play. Expand
