All things considered, Super Mega Baseball 2 is, as I said, a very, very good arcade baseball game. It may not have the depth of an official MLB game, or the out-of-nowhere shock that made the first game such a pleasant surprise, but it works, and it’s fun. Compared to its competition this year, that makes for a monumental achievement.

Aside from the disappointing sound design, Super Mega Baseball 2 is the baseball experience that Xbox sports fans have been waiting for. It's easily the best Xbox One baseball game available.

Despite not having MLB behind it Super Mega Baseball 2 could be considered the best baseball game of 2018.

Although not quite on par with an MLB, Super Mega Baseball 2 is a great entry for its price, offer-ing enough simplicity in gameplay to be enjoyable to practically anyone.

While it's not a full-fledged AAA title, SMB 2 blurs the lines with its fantastic gameplay and mode depth.

All in all Metalhead Software Inc. hit another one out of the park with Super Mega Baseball 2.

Super Mega Baseball 2 is light enough to entertain anyone and deep enough to be considered a great baseball simulation.

From the Wii-like characters and its entire eye-popping arcady graphical design to its surprising variety and depth, Super Mega Baseball 2 provides a fun and exciting twist to a sometimes boring and cumbersome sport (sorry baseball fans).

Improves on the original to deliver a brilliant game of baseball with a charming style. [July 2018, p.70]

Super Mega Baseball 2 is a fun blend of arcade and simulation baseball. Its decent and believable physics, grouped with its unique design and alluringly fluid gameplay, gives it a definitive edge over the half-baked RBI Baseball 18. Despite the lack of diverse stadiums and licenses, this game achieves everything that it set out to accomplish, ultimately delivering a polished, wacky and robust experience.

Super Mega Baseball 2 brings out the best in what baseball games have to offer. An over-the-top, fun sports title that focuses on entertaining rather than realism, this is one is definitely worth checking out.

At the end of the day, Super Mega Baseball 2 is another home run for a talented studio. Hopefully you were able to get it while it was free with Gold, but if not it’s certainly well worth the price of admission, especially since this console is sorely lacking good baseball games. Sure, it may not be a realistic MLB experience, but it’s good fun.

I was very pleased with the simplistic, fun-to-play nature of Super Mega Baseball 2. The game plays very well with only a few shortcomings and does so for a small amount of bucks. You will not see Mike Trout hitting a home run, but you can have Tony Stark stealing home.

Super Mega Baseball 2 is a deep and fun simulation disguised as an arcade game, with good mechanics and a difficulty system capable of adapting to every kind of gamer.

As far as local multiplayer games go on the current consoles, Super Mega Baseball 2 is a great option. If you’ve got Xbox Live Gold, then you can grab the game for free as part of the May lineup. Even if you’re not a huge fan of the sport, it’s well worth checking out.

If you’re a baseball fan and not insistent on having official Major League Baseball players, teams, and stadiums, you will have a lot of fun with Super Mega Baseball 2. Despite the lack of stadiums and somewhat clumsy baserunning mechanics, Metalhead is hitting for power with their latest release.

Super Mega Baseball 2 delivers a rock-solid baseball experience that may come up light on modes, but homes in on the fun and skill of pitching and batting. I hope this becomes an annualized series, as Metalhead has a great foundation to build upon.

An accurate physics engine generates realistic hits, and it keeps stats and models fatigue and morale in interesting ways. This realism is betrayed by a few control issues that affect the timing when batting and an AI that doesn’t always behave as you’d expect. However, the unique Ego system allows you to tweak the difficulty of batting and fielding individually until you find the perfect challenge.

Super Mega Baseball 2 brings a great amount of arcade fun to this historical sport. With great mechanics and pick up and play gameplay, the game keeps you entertained and engaged. Since there it is not an MLB game you can’t use real players or teams, but that doesn't stop the game from holding up as a respectable title.

Although not everyone will love its visual style, players looking for a decent baseball experience -- especially on the Xbox One -- should definitely give Super Mega Baseball 2 a few innings. It isn't without some issues, but overall it manages to capture the rhythm and fun of the sport in a pretty addictive way.

If you’re looking for fun arcade baseball action with a bombastic presentation, Super Mega Baseball 2 is a no-brainer. The easily adjustable difficulty makes these a great game to play with kids. While it won’t have any of the big names in baseball, you can still find a lot of fun in the deep customization and easy-to-pick-up controls.

The game in question is called Super Mega Baseball 2 and I was really looking forward to it because I really enjoyed the first instalment of the series back in 2015 and it’s a game I still enjoy to this day. Thankfully Super Mega Baseball 2 includes what was good about the first game and in some ways it improves over the original game, which is great. The physics were good in the original game, but to my surprise they were even better here. Everything about the batting and fielding oozes realism and when everything is in full flow you end up having a very immersive and enjoyable experience. Another thing they get spot on is that they make the game accessible to all gamers and you can tweak the challenge to how you want to play. So if your playing with your children then they can gain an upper hand and make things more fair, so everybody can enjoy the gameplay. Despite them making things very accessible you will still however need to get used to the controls that have been implemented. Don’t get me wrong the controls aren’t bad by any means it’s just that they feel a little awkward at times and this awkwardness will affect how you play from time to time. Another problem the game also has is in regards to the AI. The AI can act peculiar at times and they don’t do things you expect them to do so the realism can suffer a bit because of this. Thankfully though this isn’t a major problem and you easily forget about this because the game is best enjoyed with real people. If you like playing online then you will be very pleased with the online offering that’s been included. Everything plays out really well and I didn’t suffer with any problems when playing the game online, which is great. The online components give the game even more replaybility and in terms of content the game has more than enough to keep you satisfied, so you won’t be getting bored anytime soon. One of my favourite things about the first game was the presentation side of things, and thankfully it’s even better here. Visually the game has a nice arcadey look to it and when you combine that with the nice sound design it ends up delivering more fun and enjoyment to you. At the end of the day if you’re a fan of baseball game’s then you will thoroughly enjoy what Super Mega Baseball 2 brings to the table. It manages to create a very realistic experience and it doesn’t suffer with many problems, so all you end up having with this game is an incredible amount of fun and I thoroughly recommend that you give it a try. Metalhead doesn't just hit a homerun with SMB2, they've hit a walk-off grand slam.

The game is visually beautiful. The color palette pops, the character models are less exaggerated and more realistic, and the stadiums have a more modern look and feel.

The Ego system makes a return after being possibly the best difficulty system in a sports game in the release of Super Mega Baseball. It allows players to scale the difficulty from 1-99, but players can change the difficulty in any aspect of the game. Are you a really good pitcher, but you can't hit? Put the pitching ego at 55, keep the hitting lower at 35. It allows for a unique experience for every player and allows players to challenge themselves without feeling like they're getting beaten down by the CPU.

Let's get to where SMB2 really shines: Customization.

In SMB the customization was there, but it wasn't fully fleshed out. Metalhead doubled down on customization and it paid off. Nearly everything can be customized. Players, teams, uniforms, bats, gloves, windups, batting stances, and even player "attitude" can be customized so no team will be the same.

Not only can you customize players and teams, but you can customize leagues. Want to have a small league and only play 16 games a season? Done. Want to have a 30-team, 162-game season? Done. SMB2 will generate any missing teams, league names, divisions, and conferences to fill the league.

Of course there are a few minor flaws. Fielders struggle at times to pick up baseballs that are relatively close, starting pitchers often go way too deep into games, and all the customization can't be shared with the rest of the SMB2 player base.

However, it is the commitment to the fundamentals that makes SMB2 such a good game. It gets the fundamentals of the sport right. The controls are basic and easy to learn, the ego system allows for a unique experience for each user and allows them to control the challenge they face. The customization adds an entirely new layer to the game that will keep players hooked .

SMB2 is not just another "arcade baseball game." It very well may be the best sports game of the year. Metalhead absolutely crushed it.
