Really fun and it actually makes what may have been a more boring sidequest into a fun experience. The movement is extremely well done and the map design is a huge part of that. I found myself only sparingly using the fast travel because i enjoyed moving across the map using the rails and bounces. Great game and one that every xbox one owner should have! Expand

this is what happens when insomniac is allowed to do what they want unlike what they did for the entire ps3 generation, they make phenomenal games and sony missed out big time by not green lighting this project, best insomniac game since R&C 2

The only thing that is keeping me from giving it a perfect score is the co-op, it's fun and captures the game-play great, it just lacks the humor hat I loved in the single-player. However, this is one of the games I wanted an Xbone for and I'm glad I got my hands on it. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Personally, I wasn't too hyped about sunset overdrive. Nevertheless, on day one, I picked the game up. I really enjoyed the games campaign which I completed in roughly 11 hours (Yes, I was a noob). After the campaign I thought there wouldn't be a lot to do, but I can tell you, I was wrong. I really enjoyed doing all the quests after and each was different and diverse. I done a quest about collecting comics, where the person you was doing the quest for, was making a comic up about you. I thought that was really cool. I also enjoyed the humour of the game and found myself laughing quite frequently. The game also has so much content with all the weird and wacky weapons, overdrives (which are essentially perks), amps (perks, different than overdrives) and also things such as collecting essentials to make amps. Toilet paper, fizzie balloons, shoes just to name a few. The exciting thing is Insomniac are going to be adding more DLC so you're never going to get bored (who gets bored of killing zombies, anyway?!) My only negative of the game would be some of the missions in the campaign seem to drag on. Especially when trying to find the propeller, to what you think, you're going to escape the city. All in all Sunset Overdrive is an amazing game, heaps of fun and I would recommend to most, If not all, Xbox one owners. Expand

wow is all i can say, this game is great! it that wacky , funny and exciting game you play when your bored and tired of playing repetitive games like CoD and Battlefield. Although awesome , i wouldn't give it a perfect score just some little things that you can usually ignore.

Good fun game that is seriously underrated and takes the piss out of being a game. Cool weapons and upgrades, pity i didn't feel like playing more side quests after the story, as there is not that much more to do accept maybe get what you consider to be the best gear. The DLC looks good, but should have made it free to get more people playing.

The story is weird to say the least but it can be very funny, it's nothing mind blowing but it suits the games style and themes. Characters can be memorable but the majority are pretty forgettable, the graphics are colourful and get the job done, again nothing mind blowing but they suit the game. The upgrade system is a strange one, there are multiple layers to upgrading your character and some are better than others. Some times it went into stinky Limburger realms, but instead of making me groan, it endeared me to the story. Love the over the top punk aesthetic. Funny ridiculous story, hilarious dialogue, funny as hell caricatures for characters, extremely inventive - taking the "corrupt evil corporation converts the city into blood thirty zombie monsters" into a whole new direction. The team at Insomniac made that story their own. The parkour was very fun, controls were very responsive. Over all, very solid cohesive game. I hope a sequel is in the works! Expand

Sunset Overdrive is fun. Many games that I feel are an 8.5 out of 10 I round down to 8, this one I'm going to go with a 9. There is a lot more that I could have done to explore the city, but I remember enjoying my time with the game quite a bit and feeling very satisfied chaining together combo attacks and stuff. I highly recommend.

Two expansion packs that increase hours of fun (only the base game is in Game Pass). Recently I saw it in the Xbox store, it no longer appears under that label of Insomniac Games but of Microsoft Studios so it opens up hope for a new sequel.

    The bad:
Despite being a good exclusive, it sold poorly and went to the freezer. Its caricatured style means that they do not take it very seriously and it is difficult for the user to enter the dynamics that Sunset supposes. The multiplayer is somewhat dead. Lack of a base protagonist makes the core game seem like a soulless game. Avoid it if you can't stand The guttural and schatological sounds jokes

    Lo Meh !:
The neutral gamers denistaton this game without knowing it, without playing it and without giving it a chance, to the degree that many do not even know that it has multiplayer and many others do not even know what their two post-history expansions are called.

    Let's start with gameplay:
The developers came up with a very clever traversal in the game to make the game more fun. The traversal doesn't get boring as the game progresses but actually gets more interesting. I was a little worried that it would get monotonous but it didn't.

    Story:
The story of the game is pretty minimalistic and cliched. But, as far as I understand, this is intentional as the focus is more on the puns, clever jokes and amazing dialogue delivery. Insomniac Games really aced the dialogue delivery for this game. Even the different ways in which the protagonist comes back after dying is worth watching. Each character has a uniqueness to them and they don't feel like an extra burden in the game or a character made just for the sake of the game.

Customizability: The weapons are cool and are designed with pun intended. Actually, everything in this game is designed with pun intended. So, I'll just stop using that word.

Boss levels: Some of the boss levels are fun and challenging too. Loved how the bosses designed are differently from one another. They are also cleverly designed without making them monotonous.

In summary, this game is what happens someone takes Catch-22 and makes a game out of it. It's fun and chaos well blended. This is a must play game. Peace.

One of the best exclusives Xbox had, until it was also ported to PC. TL;DR, you need to get this game if you have either an Xbox or a PC. One of my favorite games now from the last decade, a shame I wasn't able to play it sooner. Played on a Xbox Series X.

Story - The plot is very very minimal, and that is ok. The game makes up for the very generic plot by trying to make it as generic as possible and embracing that. The game constantly breaks the fourth wall, and cracks jokes every few lines of dialogue, and it never fails to at least make me chuckle. The plot gives you enough motivation to keep you going, and tied up with the gameplay makes it an excellent treat.

Worldbuilding - Sunset City is littered with vibrant, stupid, funny characters. There is one "serious" character in the game and the game kills them off very quickly which i find funny. The city itself is very colorful and very saturated with not one part looking the same, from the pagoda shaped museum to the graffitied docks, I always knew where I was without having to reference the map. The soundtrack is the weakest part, but matched the vibe the game was going for. I personally saw the entire soundtrack as one track rather than multiple but could just be me. For the protagonist you can dress however you want, and every combination of clothing I tried never failed to match the goofiness of a city taken by zombies obsessed with a deadly energy drink.

Gunplay - the main way to fight in this game is through gunplay, the other way being melee, which isn't vital. Every gun is unique and vary in how insane they are. You have basic guns like a handgun and a basic assault rifle, but then can go to crazy weapons like a gun that shoots bowling balls or a launcher that shoots teddy bears stuffed with TNT. Whatever the gun is, each play very differently and affect different enemies better than other, and throughout your time you'll be constantly switching weapons to have the advantage over your prey. Skills called amps can be obtained to give your arsenal different effects like doing more damage while you're in the air or burning enemies when they get shot at with the weapon. They aren't game breaking but give each weapon some nice effects that makes each weapon that much more powerful.

Traversal - Grinding, bouncing, and dashing through sunset city is so fun and satisfying when everything just clicks. the game slowly introduces more ways to traverse the open world, and once you have everything it's so fun to just run around. The world litters many collectibles so you can use your traversal skills in various ways to nab them all, and the collectibles can be spent on amps that can be for weapons, traversal, or just an ongoing effect.

Combat - the gameplay uses the uniqueness of each weapon to the fun satisfying traversal to make combat that much better. you don't take cover and pop out when you can. You run around and bounce and grind while firing at enemies is a blast. I had myself run at enemies while just traversing the world just to get some more action, and I was never frustrated. The bosses were extremely unique with different ways for each to strike them down, but not amazing by any means. The final boss was in my opinion a little frustrating. But overall, combat was amazing.

The problems I had with this game were very small, and don't really contribute at all to my enjoyment with this game, but everything have their problems, and they have to be addressed in order for there to be improvement. Other than that, please play this game if you have a PC or an Xbox.

Pretty good! The story was fun and had quite a few funny moments throughout. The voice acting was perfect and I really liked the music choices. I also really appreciate that the story was a manageable length. The collectibles became a bit of a chore and it did have really boring base defense type missions, but overall it was worth the money and time-for sure!

The main character is a random guy who gets caught up in a soda-fueled zombie apocalypse and realizes that it's pretty awesome to swing and slide your way around the city shooting things with homemade weapons. The map/story is divided into sections to rally different factions to your cause. Each faction is very unique and a huge part of what drew me to the game in the first place. The dialogue and voice acting are done perfectly and definitely funny enough to get a few laughs.

The missions are a bit hit and miss. Sometime they are incredibly original or designed to show off new abilities or weapons, but others can be repetitive or (the worst) base defending. In a game with such amazing traversal mechanics, who's idea was it to put base defense in there?

Most of the weapons felt a little underwhelming. There are a lot of cool ideas and a significant ability to upgrade for guns and abilities, but I think a game like this would have been better served by letting you out-damage the enemies a little more. Most guns seem to hit like spitballs while the enemies can kill you real quick if they hit you.

I did have frequent audio glitches where the sound would cut out completely, but nothing that a bit of saving and reloading couldn't fix.

I also picked up the edition that includes the DLC's which were at least as fun as the main campaign without overstaying their welcome. Zipping around the Oil Rig and the Robot Factory was still entertaining and the writing and voice acting still had some great moments.

Sunset Overdrive is one of the games that has made me laugh the most and entertained me. Apart from its DLC that I buy with the Deluxe edition, it is very enjoyable. Here in Mexico they dubbed it in Latin, which I liked but I was already used to seeing the games in Spanish; I liked it more in my native language because of the jokes they put into it. Great game that deserves a sequel.

I guess you shouldn't complain considering that you get all that fun for so many hours, but a game like this, with all possibilities with an open world to do so much more, it's very very sad that there's pretty much no incentive to continue playing. You could kill more monsters to get all the guns and all the gear, etc, but for what? So you could continue killing more monsters for no reason? Meh. The gameplay is fast at all times, so don't plan on standing still for very long. The character customization is really good, and adds to the enjoyment of riding through the wacky campaign. The humor is a bit on the weak side, but I personally appreciated the random silliness as I tore through Sunset City. Technically speaking, the game seems to have been patched up well and delivers a fairly seamless multiplayer experience. All in all, Sunset Overdrive is in my opinion one of the more overrated titles on the Xbox One, and deserves credit for thinking way outside the box to deliver a game that feels old school and yet new school all in one. The game is a visual tour de force with its very colorful, cartoony look and silky smooth animation. Unfortunately, its profane dialogue and crass adult humor doesn't mesh well with the family-friendly presentation. Still, it is a lot of fun once you master the multiple moves that your fully customizable character can perform. The design of the city is truly a work of art and traversing it is half the fun as you grind and bounce your way to destinations throughout the map. There are hordes of various zombies in "Sunset Overdrive" and if you attempt to walk on the street level, you'll be killed in no time at all. In this game, you must be constantly moving on the rooftops, rails and power lines of the city. The story is simple; the city has been overrun zombies (due to a new popular soda containing a virus) and you meet characters who will help you escape in return for favors. The "Rachet and Clank"- type weapons are great and the customizable clothing is on par with a Tony Hawk or SSX game. In addition to the story, you can try to earn medals in challenges scattered throughout the city or compete with 3 other players in "Chaos Mode" which also encourages teamwork. "Sunset Overdrive" is the XBOX ONE what "Dead Rising" was to the XBOX 360, a terrific zombie game that showcases the capabilities of the console. Like other open-world action games, some of it can get a bit repetitive, but overall, the game is great fun. 8.4 out of 10. Expand

The story of the game loses itself in parody, but it feels as though the developers didn't actually want the game to be judged on story. It makes fun of itself constantly and makes comments on tropes in many open world games. The humor in the game is a big part of the experience but it was quite hit or miss with me. Sometimes it gets me laughing (Such as the various respawn animations) and other times it makes me cringe a bit (Like the reliance on tired memes for some of the humor). The game makes direct references to the likes of Reddit, NeoGAF, and Facebook, which doesn't sit well with me but could be funny for others. The best portion of the game is in the gameplay though. Missions aren't too varied, but the method of combat and travel is in my opinion one of the most interesting in any open world game I've played. The game punishes you for staying on the ground, and gives you ample opprotunities to swing, run, and grind around buildings and in the air while fighting. There's a certain joy that comes out of pulling off combinations of stylish moves without stopping as you blast through the OD hordes. Overall I think Sunset Overdrive is a fun and self-aware new IP that deserves attention compared to the usual yearly releases, and Microsoft would do well to continue to reach out in this way. Expand

I won't lie, at first glance the game looks absolutely boring and bland, but that's because for some reason the developers chose to start the game in a depressing, scarce, and boring looking brewery area, and to top it all off the first main character you meet is an annoying turd who has a permanent hard-on for amps. As you journey out of the brewery, the game becomes more vivid and exciting as you view more saturated and varied environments. It's kind of like the game builds up quality over a short time.

The humor is great, but the greatest humor is from your own player character, and you can't help but build a connection with them. The characters are very characteristic and have their own perks that make them unique. The story is... surprisingly great and immersing as you explore different areas that somewhat represent different social cliques. Graphics are great and animations are fluid.

However, there are some things that aren't so great as well. The music is very generic for some reason, it would have been brilliant if they had added punk or indie rock to the soundtrack to bring in some more life and excitement to the game. Also, one thing I didn't like was the late game. I won't spoil it, but it isn't very in-depth and feels very rushed, I barely got to know any of the people there.

In the end, the game is pretty great, but it isn't the best game in the world. In the reviews, there are either hyped and overzealous Xbox One fanboys or Butthurt Ps4 fanboys. Either way, the game is pretty great and you should pick it up.

I don't enjoy the voice chosen for the male protagonist as it sounds too cartoony for an M-rated game, even one that doesn't take itself seriously. I'm also disappointed by the lack of destruction, which the game has but obviously not enough. There aren't any choices for melee weapons besides the fact that you can customize the look of it and add amps to improve its ability (flinging fire balls, for example).

I normally not the type of person that has to collect every collectible or get every achievement or get the highest score in certain missions, but with Sunset getting collectibles was enjoyable for me I made it a game for myself where I would try not to stop moving to collect something so if their was a roll of toilet paper on a pole, a sign on a wall and a security camera near, I would try to pole swing, wall run and, shoot the security camera all without stopping. The movement is what got me hooked getting these random pieces wasn't for the achievement or being able to buy amps (I was pretty set on amps before but now I have all of them) I really enjoyed just moving around the world and I felt this game really deserves more then just a story playthrough or a meager 15hrs time played. So I kept at it, completed all side objectives, collectibles, and got gold on every challenge and even replayed challenges after getting gold just to better my score. But after all this praise there were some issues, of course the story being short was a issue but I did enjoy every minute of it. Most of the quests were go collect something and bring it back missions which suits this style of game but I felt that it was over done and wished their was more mission variety. The fetch quests isn't my biggest complaint, fetch quests were bearable because I did enjoy moving around the world so I didn't mind too much but someone looking for more variety probably wouldn't find enjoyment out of the repeated fetch quests. My biggest complaint would have to be the AI for the enemies most notably for the OD, in certain missions if you cleared out a wave of OD and stayed in the same spot the rest of the OD on the map wouldn't aggro and just stand in one spot frozen. This was especially frustrating when trying to do point challenges when moving too much could cause a error and make you fall to the ground and lose your combo (I understand if you fall to the ground you can keep your combo as long as your killing enemies but by the time the fact I have fallen to the ground to register in my mind I would have already lost the combo) Movement is key as I said in previous parts but on certain challenges letting the OD come to you was more beneficial, like for example the charge beam challenge every time I got close to getting gold was because I bounced and grinded in the same spot, once I had to move from that spot out of my comfort zone because OD wouldn't move I ended up failing. Its a minor pet peeve and it possibly is meant to do that to keep you from getting comfortable I just got aggravated that some OD would aggro and large chunks would just sit motionless. But so far I have enjoyed that game it definitely doesn't deserve a perfect score but I think a 8 does this game justice, anyone that likes the humor of the recent Saints row games, and the movement of Tony Hawk will love this game just as I have. :) Expand

Overall the game is worth picking up, but the multiplayer is not the main draw to the game. Expand

It doesn't take itself too seriously which is kind off refreshing for Xbox seeing as most the exclusives usually are you more typical frag head protagonist running around shooting things for very little reason other than bad guys are threatening your existence, The game is packed with humor even dying has its rewards with each death bring its own humorous resurrection to the table.
The game is not too hard yet not too easy and has a fairly good variety of enemies throughout the game to keep things interesting with a few cool bosses thrown into the mix.
One of the best things Sunset Overdrive has to offer is its weapons they are goofy and creative and Amps can also spice the game up with plenty off challenges to keep you playing hours past the main storyline not to mention it has Co-op so you can jump in with a friend at anytime.
The only things that hinder the game are its Graphics now this Game is an exclusive to Xbox One so they should have no excuse pushing the hardware to impress but it doesn't this game at times looks like it was ripped straight from Saints Row 3 and although the game is Cartoony it still looks a little sketchy mostly in cutscenes for this game to NOT hit 1080p is pretty embarrassing for the Xbox One and really brings up questions to exactly how powerful the console truly is hell Bayonetta 2 on the Wii U looks better and the Wii U is constantly bashed for its underpowered Hardware.
Sunset Overdrive is not the best game you will ever play but it is a fun addictive adrenaline ride worthy of a purchase 8/10.

Fast Forward to my sons birthday and for some strange reason that was the game he wanted. So I bought it for him and I ended up playing it more than he does.

The game is just like a blend of Jet Grind Radio and Crackdown which like I said previously is not a bad thing. I still have some issues with not loving the game just liking it.

As per usual the Season Pass has let me down and was not worth the price with what you get.

I would not have paid retail but for $29.99 for the Day One Edition on Sale was a good Deal.

However Insomniac does very well to deliver some funny lines through character dialogue and some of the one liners you may over hear while grinding past an enemy scavenger may cause you to let out a laugh in surprise. The character dialogue and comedy aspects of the game are definitely refreshing in a sea of game titles churning out every year, that are grittier and grittier each time, and take themselves deadly seriously.
There is seldom a quiet moment in Sunset Overdrive, there are many dynamic scenarios that a player may encounter when bouncing and grinding their way through the game. As a player you may find a survivor frantically running down the streets from Scavengers or the OD and the player can choose to save the survivor for a cash reward that can be used to buy customisation items. You may be grinding and bouncing across the skylines of Sunset City and see small skirmishes between all types of enemies in the game, occurring at random all over the game map.

The combat in the game is a more slapstick and humorous experience than the grey and dull FPS we are used to, and is really a blast from the past, making us reminisce of previous colourful and exciting games like Spyro, Ratchet and Clank and Jet Set Radio. The weapons are fun and inventive which really does create an engaging player experience as we are able to explore the vast array of unconventional weapons like the TNTEDDY (a rocket launcher that fires explosive teddy bears) and the Nothin’ But The Hits (a weapon that launches colourful vinyl).

One aspect of the game that stands out above all else is the fluid movement and smooth transition between grinding, bouncing, wall running and combat. The game feels so natural as you flick between hastily traversing the city and attacking enemies as you complete objectives and as you save innocent survivors from the selection of enemies. Surprisingly there is no sprint function in the game, which is Insomniac’s way of making the player utilise the traversal mechanics of grinding, undergrinding, wall running and bouncing, which is evidently a large factor in the overall experience that Insomniac is trying to create for the players.

Along with the base story of the game there are also a number of expectable side activities that can also be completed. As expected in an open world game, there are a selection of collectibles to collect and also Fizzco cameras to destroy located all over the game map. In addition Insomniac incorporated many mini game type challenge like ‘Midnight Defense’ (a castle defence type mini game, utilising traps to defend vats of Overcharge used to create ‘Amps’ which are perks that can be equipped to weapons.)
There are the usual challenge trials dotted around the city that offer Bronze, Silver and Gold medals that reward the player with customisation items and in game currency and also offer leaderboards for friends and on a global scale. All of these editions help boost the play time and re-playability of the title significantly, and I myself have put in over 40 hours and am still going back for more.

Finally there is a multiplayer function in the game that allows up to eight players to play a game called ‘Chaos Squad’ in which the players take part in a series of challenges together in which they attempt to rack up the highest percentage of ‘Chaos’ which offer specific rewards at the end of the game. The multiplayer is fun and engaging however I feel it really is an afterthought and the single player is where you’ll sink at least ninety percent of your time. Unfortunately there is no multiplayer free roaming option which is a real shame as it has been an expected option in almost all open world, third person shooter games.

Overall Sunset Overdrive is a quirky, funny and fresh title for the Xbox One console that offers at least 30-40 hours of quality game play for even hardcore gamers. If you enjoy games that don’t take themselves too seriously and focus more on the player experience over frame rate or pixel ratio then this is the one for you.

Sunset Overdrive is a great game that any Xbox One owner should pick up ASAP. The gameplay is a blast to play, and exploring Sunset city is fun also. There is a massive glaring problem though. Firstly, the story and characters are extremely forgettable, making the 'story' meaningless. Apart from that, Sunset Overdrive is a superb game that Xbox One players should definitely buy.

It can for sure stand on its own, and is definitely worth a purchase if you have an XB1. It is a very unique game that is constantly throwing action in your face left and right, from start to finish. As others have said, this game is a nice breath of fresh air in a current gen that is very over saturated with "supr srs" games that take themselves a little too seriously.

The movement mechanics around the city are fluid and great. You feel like the entire city is a sort of playground for you to grind, jump, bounce, swing, and just play around in. Everything on the map exists for the kinetic and fluid movement system that the game is based on. Pulling off really cool moves as you alternate between grinding, air dashing, bouncing, wall running, etc. around the city while you shoot ridiculously funny and unique weapons is what the combat system is all about. You have to constantly keep moving in order to not get bogged down and killed by enemies, and everything in the game lends itself to this type of play-style.

There are a variety of things to do in the city. There are of course the main story missions, and then there are sets of side missions for the different factions you meet throughout the game. There are also challenges spread all throughout the map that include activities from killing hordes of enemies in different ways, to performing acrobatics in order to collect point tokens, etc. On top of that, there are collectibles as well, but you never really feel like you are dredging through the map to complete some sort of checklist, since the collectibles are very conveniently placed where you would be exploring anyway.

Speaking of combat, it never got old for me from start to finish. From the very first mission with the first weapon you receive, to the last missions where you are shooting laser beams and bowling ball bombs, the combat just keeps growing in variety and fun as you play and unlock different perks called "amps" for your weapons as well as amps for different "hero" (character) slots. Amps are a cool and diverse way to change your combat play style up as there are a variety of different effects that compliment each other not only during the campaign, but also online. Some amps allow you to heal "allies" (other online players doing missions with you) and are cool to switch to when you know you are going to be playing an online session. Also, online mode called "Chaos Squad" is a blast as the crazy factor is increased x8 and there is just constant insanity at all times with everyone's weapon and amp effects going off all over the place.

The game took me around 17 hours to beat. I did all of the main missions (obviously), all of the side (blue map icon) missions, a handful of the challenges (green map icon) missions that I found fun, and I also popped into online mode a bit to play with groups of people. Collectibles aren't really a big deal for me, but I grabbed them when I saw them, and had enough of them to unlock some cooler amps later in the game.

In the end, if you are looking for a game that is a breath of fresh air, fast paced but still laid back because of its casualness, and also just plain fun, then this is it. This game totally took me by surprise. What I thought was going to be a "time killer" game actually turned out to be one of my favorite games on my new XB1 so far. Would recommend.

Don't be confused though, this isn't AC4 tailing repetitive, though most missions follow a lot of the same 'go here and fetch this' , but there's enough variation in what you have to do to fetch said item. Most reviews will say the combat is really too simplistic and easy, this for the most part is also true. Your crosshair will automatically lock on enemies so you can instantly kill them, but this is more for the traversal (grinding, jumping, and zip-lining) because the moment you hit ground, you WILL die (especially later in the game with the other enemy factions). Combat is also stirred up with something called 'amps' where, for example, you can jump and melee, and cause and earthquake, killing all enemies around you, but you have to reach a level 3 Style (Style being earned by traversal kill variation) which really makes combat fun and satisfying along with the unique weapons that you could only see in a Insomniac game such as a launcher that shoots TNT in the form of teddy bears (properly named TNTeddy), or a really big Spear gun (also properly named the Captain Ahab), all of which make the combat even more satisfying. The humor in this game is hit or miss. Sometimes its really funny, other times I won't even laugh to myself. The story isn't anything special. I personally like the punk-rock soundtrack, but that's more of a personal thing, and I know not everyone will like it (probably a bigger portion won't like it). The mini-games/challenges are pretty fun/interesting. Things like collecting all the objects through traversal to increase score, or killing OD (the main enemy in the game) in creative ways with narration from a complete psychopath, or even just bombing buildings are all serviceable side activities that are completely optional, and are quite challenging to get 'Gold' badges on to reach 100% complete. If you're a completionist, this game will take you a while to beat (around 29 hours) while the main story only lasts around 10 hours (don't worry, majority of it is gameplay *stares attentively at the Order*). I don't know what the CoOp is like because no one ever plays it. The open world is nothing special besides the Insomniac art style, and each district having its own distinct feel. But there is a lot to do in it including side quests, collectibles, and the mini-games/activities. Character customization is similar to games in the Saints Row franchise, giving you the option to play as a male/female who are both fully voice-acted very well. Overall, I've played AC4, ACU, Wolfenstein: The New Order, DmC: Definitive Edition, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Shadow of Mordor, State of Decay, Watch Dogs, The Master Chief Collection, Battlefield 4, Titanfall, Advanced Warfare, and Diablo 3 on my Xbox One, and I can safely say that Sunset Overdrive is my favorite I've played out of them. Give it a shot. Wait for it on sale. I picked it up for 35$ in January, and its one of the few games I regret purchasing on my Xbox One. Expand

THPS2 is one of my favorite games ever, and I was skeptical about those comparisons, but they are deserving. It's really the little things that add up in this game, such as the animations when you die.

I really like the smoothness of the game and also its fast paced and recomended continuous in motion type of gameplay. Though, imo, its should have been better if they added more melee combat in game. Regardless, a score of 9/10.

Its not dark and its brightness (even at night due to the lights) never really affected my experience cause of the colors being good mix of each other. A score of 8/10

Me recuerda mucho a Jetset Radio.

Overall, the game play is solid, with high technical prowess, but the experience is marred by a lack of variety and a relatively short length. Expand

"Sunset Overdrive" is a crass, colorful and comedic open-world action game that blends "Jet Grind Radio" with "Dead Rising". While the profane language and sexual references are a bit off-putting, the game's campaign is a lot of fun. Made by the creators of "Ratchet and Clank", it contains some of the wackiest weapons ever featured in a video game. While the profane language and sexual references are a bit off-putting, the game's campaign is a lot of fun. Made by the creators of "Ratchet and Clank", it contains some of the wackiest weapons ever featured in a video game. In this highly inventive blast-a-thon, the player must always be on the move to avoid a quick death. And just like in Tony Hawk, constant combos are the keys to quickly scoring big points. Admittingly, the multiple controls are difficult to master at first. But once they're learned, the player will have a blast exploring the bright and vibrant world of "Sunset".

The fast-paced cooperative multiplayer is also a lot of fun. Missions are horde-based and can include up to 8 players. The goal is to protect "bases" from zombies and the player who achieves the highest score on the team wins the biggest bonus. Maps and modes are rotated as you play. Over-the-top customization options straight out of "Saints Row" are featured in both multiplayer and single player modes. While "Overdrive" may not appeal to everyone, it's certainly a fun ride. Fans of "Jet Grind Radio" and "Dead Rising" will especially appreciate it. I'd rate this Xbox One exclusive with an 8.3 out of 10.

Probably the best next gen exclusive we've seen so far. It's not perfect but a great return to form for Insomniac. [Issue#257, p.56]

A game that would be even cooler if it didn’t try so hard to be cool. To love it you need to switch off the part of the brain responsible for good taste, but in return Sunset Overdrive relentlessly strokes the part responsible for pleasure. [13/2014, p.76]

Fast, playful and colorful game that does have style and dynamic action, but also a pretty dull story that soon becomes boring. [Issue#248]
