This feels like a shooter built by the guys who made Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, and holy cow does it work well.

There were a couple issues however:
    - The comedy can get a little old by the end
    - It takes a while before you have the abilities that really show off the fun of the game
    - The world empties out by the end, making the game boring once you have completed the story

These are all relatively minor gripes, and damn it is a whole heap of fun. PLEASE MAKE A SEQUEL!

Crazy, chaotic, funny and fast. You just spend hours playing around with all these crazy guns you can build jump around and kill thousands of monster. The story missions are mostly repetitive but that's not really a problem at all. And the bosses are awesomely creative and funny. Sadly this game sold not that good but I still hope for a sequel.

Estilo artístico divertido y entre horas de entretenimiento, a todos los que tengan una xbox no duden en obtenerlo, es uno de los exclusivos que destacan mucho en la consola y no puede pasar desapercibido. One of the best games on Xbox One. Gameplay is pure fun and carnage. Graphics/visuals are striking and vibrant. Amazing soundtrack. Funny characters and dialogue with fourth wall breaks. This game doesn't in any way take itself seriously and results in nothing but great fun.

Me recuerda mucho a Jetset Radio.

This game is not different, the whole campaign is funny and weird as hell that you wouldnt mind what the story is. It involves a soda gone wrong which makes everyone mutated except the protagonist which mysteriously became a superhuman and now he and his friends wants to escape the apocalyptic like city. That's that. A score of 8/10.

Gameplay - Now we're talking, THE GAMEPLAY IS AWESOME. Though tbh, i never really liked the scoring system of this game cause its limits you do things you want though it encourages you also to challenge yourself to do diverse and acrobatic way to kill your enemies. I really like the smoothness of the game and also its fast paced and recomended continuous in motion type of gameplay. Though, imo, its should have been better if they added more melee combat in game. Regardless, a score of 9/10.

Graphics - Its cartoonish style of animation which is known to the developers really fits the weirdness of the game and i loved it. Its not dark and its brightness (even at night due to the lights) never really affected my experience cause of the colors being good mix of each other. A score of 8/10

Music - Well, i didnt like it. Though it obviously want to feel hard rock etc and to fit the fats paced game. Never really was a fan of rock music being put in game. 7/10.

    Total Average = 8

The combat was really fun at first: Grinding, wall-running, jumping from building to building, all while shooting up hordes of enemies with silly and unique weaponry. But a major flaw in the game is that there isn't enough variation in enemies. There's basically just 3 types of enemies in the whole game, with a few small exceptions. Also, the story is like 2 hours long. It can be funny at times, but usually comes across as pretentious with all the dumb pop-culture references. Once you're done with the story, you're left with a handful of generic side quests that lack any sort of creativity or variety. Once you get past all the eye candy the game overs in the beginning, you realize how hollow it is. Also, the game is just way too easy, it's a joke. Expand

Bright and colorful, "Sunset Overdrive" brings a very different type of apocalyptic open-world game to the Xbox One. Unique flourishes and a very playful sense of humor keep things enjoyable in the face of some gameplay deficiencies. The most notable being repetition.

If you want personality this game has it in spades. The punk rock style, sharp writing, and sarcastic humor do a lot to boost the fun you'll have with it. The vibrant, colorful graphics give gamers a wildly different open-world apocalypse to explore.

As far as the gameplay goes it's all very solid. Movement is key to survival and the emphasis on rail-grinding and bouncing around make the game part platformer. Chaining together grinds and bounces all while not touching the ground builds up your style meter. Doing so gives you some boosts to help you out in combat. While a touch slow, these traversal mechanics are one of the best parts of the game.

Combat feels a little more traditional. The effect the platforming elements have on it do make it more uniquely tinged, but not even that and some crazy weapons can make up for the rather standard combat scenarios. Boss battles are the only ones with real flash and the whole thing is really easy. So easy that I never really spent any time modifying my character's "Amp" load out, which are powers designed to give you boosts in certain areas. I just picked the ones that I was originally given and found that those worked well enough.

After a while it just starts to feel like going through the motions even as new enemies are added to the fray. That's not to say there isn't any life here though. The basic combat encounters are still fun and the game packs several exciting scenarios throughout.

Where the game really stumbles is in it's repetition. It's not hard t notice that you are doing the same things over and over again. The game puts new twists on things here and there, but rarely actively changes things. It kept me from really diving into the side-content much. A shame given that Sunset Overdrive has a lot of content to keep you busy for a while.

While it's not an amazing, must play game, it is still a good one. Sunset Overdrive is still worth checking out for it's sense of humor, style, and colorful graphics if it peaked your curiosity. Elements like it's platforming and combat might fall a bit short in some areas, but there is plenty of craziness and hilarity going on to keep you engaged at least until the credits roll. If it really manages to sink it's teeth into you, there's plenty of side-content to keep you coming back.

I loved the art style, the animation was clear and crisp, I experienced no glitches! Everything was great down until it was time for the characters to speak. I'll admit that the Portal references and several others that occurred upon respawning back into the game after dying, got a few laughs out of me, but what had me scratching my head and going "Eh......" was the amount of fourth wall breaks the game has. (I've not finished it yet) Now I'm a sucker for breaking the forth wall, Deadpool did it the best, but this game got carried away! It was funny at first, but I quickly grew tired of the character turning knocking on the screen, or the fact that it was aware of the weapons menu and what not. Don't get my wrong, the game from what I've played so far, is astounding and I definitely would like to see more of it in the future, just with less wall breaks and lame jokes. Just my opinion, but if you're someone who enjoys stuff like that, then by all means, please do get this game! Expand

The game-play has a heavy, throwback feel of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2, where you trick together grinds and jumps to navigate your way around the city. THPS2 is one of my favorite games ever, and I was skeptical about those comparisons, but they are deserving. It's really the little things that add up in this game, such as the animations when you die.

Some times it went into stinky Limburger realms, but instead of making me groan, it endeared me to the story. Love the over the top punk aesthetic. Funny ridiculous story, hilarious dialogue, funny as hell caricatures for characters, extremely inventive - taking the "corrupt evil corporation converts the city into blood thirty zombie monsters" into a whole new direction. The team at Insomniac made that story their own. The parkour was very fun, controls were very responsive. Over all, very solid cohesive game. I hope a sequel is in the works! Expand

I don't give two pennies about the PS4-Xone debate. I care about how incredibly fun this game has been for me. It's not an easy game, and at times it'll have you pulling your hair. The music is good, the humour is absurd, and the 'infected' are so damn fun to slay. Side-quests add to the storyline and characters have charisma. The art is beautiful, customization feels unique, and I have to say the translation is perfect, for those who don't speak English.

This is my go-to game when I want to have a laugh and actually feel like I'm "playing" a game.

There is colour splashed across the map throughout the game making it all feel smooth and vibrant, as well as quirky characters and comedy that keeps things interesting.

I've played through the campaign and played all of the challenges, with still a heavy amount of missions left to do. There are tons of things to unlock and plenty of customisation options. There are imaginative and larger-than-life costumes that you can mix and match from, making your player feel like a living and breathing cartoon superhero. The game never takes itself seriously either, often breaking the fourth wall with characters discussing that they are in fact in a video game and yes, it's all a bit ridiculous.

The game is also impressive from a technical standpoint. With so much going on on screen, there is very rarely any hint of slow down - and this includes online. There will be literally hundreds of zombies flying at you, explosions from left to right and collectibles bursting from the debris but the software manages to keep up. Overall Sunset Overdrive excels in many areas and any Xbox One owner should consider picking this up.

Played for about 4 hours so far, and am really enjoying this game. Visually, it is gorgeous, the use of color and the design of the city is amazing, everything is crisp and frame rate is 100% solid. Most important, the combination of gameplay types is so much fun. The customization options for the character are second to none, weapons are fun and original.

Good fun game that is seriously underrated and takes the piss out of being a game. Cool weapons and upgrades, pity i didn't feel like playing more side quests after the story, as there is not that much more to do accept maybe get what you consider to be the best gear. The DLC looks good, but should have made it free to get more people playing.

The game is a visual tour de force with its very colorful, cartoony look and silky smooth animation. Unfortunately, its profane dialogue and crass adult humor doesn't mesh well with the family-friendly presentation. Still, it is a lot of fun once you master the multiple moves that your fully customizable character can perform. The design of the city is truly a work of art and traversing it is half the fun as you grind and bounce your way to destinations throughout the map. There are hordes of various zombies in "Sunset Overdrive" and if you attempt to walk on the street level, you'll be killed in no time at all. In this game, you must be constantly moving on the rooftops, rails and power lines of the city. The story is simple; the city has been overrun zombies (due to a new popular soda containing a virus) and you meet characters who will help you escape in return for favors. The "Rachet and Clank"- type weapons are great and the customizable clothing is on par with a Tony Hawk or SSX game. In addition to the story, you can try to earn medals in challenges scattered throughout the city or compete with 3 other players in "Chaos Mode" which also encourages teamwork. "Sunset Overdrive" is the XBOX ONE what "Dead Rising" was to the XBOX 360, a terrific zombie game that showcases the capabilities of the console. Like other open-world action games, some of it can get a bit repetitive, but overall, the game is great fun. 8.4 out of 10. Expand

On the downside it is pretty darn repetitive. You pretty much just go from place to place doing the same thing over and over. If you like it, which I did, it's not that bad but if the gameplay doesn't get you hooked off the start, it's probably not going to get much better for you. Also, the guns and customizations just don't do enough to make me want to go out of my way to try them all. Once I found a combo that worked for me, I just stuck with it. They all pretty much seemed the same or vastly underpowered so I never bothered with a lot of them passed a quick trial period. Lastly, the game is a little too easy. It's pretty hard to die in this game and in the occasion that you do, there is absolutely no punishment. You just respawn and go about your business. I'll admit, this is pleasant for a bit but really limits the challenge that the game can offer. I breezed through everything other than skill challenges where I needed a high score or something.
Overall, I enjoyed it. It's a lot of fun to just whomp everything in your path in such a gorgeous setting. You will get sick of it pretty fast but it's worth a look.

Don't be confused though, this isn't AC4 tailing repetitive, though most missions follow a lot of the same 'go here and fetch this' , but there's enough variation in what you have to do to fetch said item. Most reviews will say the combat is really too simplistic and easy, this for the most part is also true. Your crosshair will automatically lock on enemies so you can instantly kill them, but this is more for the traversal (grinding, jumping, and zip-lining) because the moment you hit ground, you WILL die (especially later in the game with the other enemy factions). Combat is also stirred up with something called 'amps' where, for example, you can jump and melee, and cause and earthquake, killing all enemies around you, but you have to reach a level 3 Style (Style being earned by traversal kill variation) which really makes combat fun and satisfying along with the unique weapons that you could only see in a Insomniac game such as a launcher that shoots TNT in the form of teddy bears (properly named TNTeddy), or a really big Spear gun (also properly named the Captain Ahab), all of which make the combat even more satisfying. The humor in this game is hit or miss. Sometimes its really funny, other times I won't even laugh to myself. The story isn't anything special. I personally like the punk-rock soundtrack, but that's more of a personal thing, and I know not everyone will like it (probably a bigger portion won't like it). The mini-games/challenges are pretty fun/interesting. Things like collecting all the objects through traversal to increase score, or killing OD (the main enemy in the game) in creative ways with narration from a complete psychopath, or even just bombing buildings are all serviceable side activities that are completely optional, and are quite challenging to get 'Gold' badges on to reach 100% complete. If you're a completionist, this game will take you a while to beat (around 29 hours) while the main story only lasts around 10 hours (don't worry, majority of it is gameplay *stares attentively at the Order*). I don't know what the CoOp is like because no one ever plays it. The open world is nothing special besides the Insomniac art style, and each district having its own distinct feel. But there is a lot to do in it including side quests, collectibles, and the mini-games/activities. Character customization is similar to games in the Saints Row franchise, giving you the option to play as a male/female who are both fully voice-acted very well. Overall, I've played AC4, ACU, Wolfenstein: The New Order, DmC: Definitive Edition, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Shadow of Mordor, State of Decay, Watch Dogs, The Master Chief Collection, Battlefield 4, Titanfall, Advanced Warfare, and Diablo 3 on my Xbox One, and I can safely say that Sunset Overdrive is my favorite I've played out of them. Give it a shot. Wait for it on sale. I picked it up for 35$ in January, and its one of the few games I regret purchasing on my Xbox One. Expand

It can for sure stand on its own, and is definitely worth a purchase if you have an XB1. It is a very unique game that is constantly throwing action in your face left and right, from start to finish. As others have said, this game is a nice breath of fresh air in a current gen that is very over saturated with "supr srs" games that take themselves a little too seriously.

The movement mechanics around the city are fluid and great. You feel like the entire city is a sort of playground for you to grind, jump, bounce, swing, and just play around in. Everything on the map exists for the kinetic and fluid movement system that the game is based on. Pulling off really cool moves as you alternate between grinding, air dashing, bouncing, wall running, etc. around the city while you shoot ridiculously funny and unique weapons is what the combat system is all about. You have to constantly keep moving in order to not get bogged down and killed by enemies, and everything in the game lends itself to this type of play-style.

There are a variety of things to do in the city. There are of course the main story missions, and then there are sets of side missions for the different factions you meet throughout the game. There are also challenges spread all throughout the map that include activities from killing hordes of enemies in different ways, to performing acrobatics in order to collect point tokens, etc. On top of that, there are collectibles as well, but you never really feel like you are dredging through the map to complete some sort of checklist, since the collectibles are very conveniently placed where you would be exploring anyway.

Speaking of combat, it never got old for me from start to finish. From the very first mission with the first weapon you receive, to the last missions where you are shooting laser beams and bowling ball bombs, the combat just keeps growing in variety and fun as you play and unlock different perks called "amps" for your weapons as well as amps for different "hero" (character) slots. Amps are a cool and diverse way to change your combat play style up as there are a variety of different effects that compliment each other not only during the campaign, but also online. Some amps allow you to heal "allies" (other online players doing missions with you) and are cool to switch to when you know you are going to be playing an online session. Also, online mode called "Chaos Squad" is a blast as the crazy factor is increased x8 and there is just constant insanity at all times with everyone's weapon and amp effects going off all over the place.

The game took me around 17 hours to beat. I did all of the main missions (obviously), all of the side (blue map icon) missions, a handful of the challenges (green map icon) missions that I found fun, and I also popped into online mode a bit to play with groups of people. Collectibles aren't really a big deal for me, but I grabbed them when I saw them, and had enough of them to unlock some cooler amps later in the game.

In the end, if you are looking for a game that is a breath of fresh air, fast paced but still laid back because of its casualness, and also just plain fun, then this is it. This game totally took me by surprise. What I thought was going to be a "time killer" game actually turned out to be one of my favorite games on my new XB1 so far. Would recommend.

However Insomniac does very well to deliver some funny lines through character dialogue and some of the one liners you may over hear while grinding past an enemy scavenger may cause you to let out a laugh in surprise. The character dialogue and comedy aspects of the game are definitely refreshing in a sea of game titles churning out every year, that are grittier and grittier each time, and take themselves deadly seriously.
There is seldom a quiet moment in Sunset Overdrive, there are many dynamic scenarios that a player may encounter when bouncing and grinding their way through the game. As a player you may find a survivor frantically running down the streets from Scavengers or the OD and the player can choose to save the survivor for a cash reward that can be used to buy customisation items. You may be grinding and bouncing across the skylines of Sunset City and see small skirmishes between all types of enemies in the game, occurring at random all over the game map.

The combat in the game is a more slapstick and humorous experience than the grey and dull FPS we are used to, and is really a blast from the past, making us reminisce of previous colourful and exciting games like Spyro, Ratchet and Clank and Jet Set Radio. The weapons are fun and inventive which really does create an engaging player experience as we are able to explore the vast array of unconventional weapons like the TNTEDDY (a rocket launcher that fires explosive teddy bears) and the Nothin’ But The Hits (a weapon that launches colourful vinyl).

One aspect of the game that stands out above all else is the fluid movement and smooth transition between grinding, bouncing, wall running and combat. The game feels so natural as you flick between hastily traversing the city and attacking enemies as you complete objectives and as you save innocent survivors from the selection of enemies. Surprisingly there is no sprint function in the game, which is Insomniac’s way of making the player utilise the traversal mechanics of grinding, undergrinding, wall running and bouncing, which is evidently a large factor in the overall experience that Insomniac is trying to create for the players.

Along with the base story of the game there are also a number of expectable side activities that can also be completed. As expected in an open world game, there are a selection of collectibles to collect and also Fizzco cameras to destroy located all over the game map. In addition Insomniac incorporated many mini game type challenge like ‘Midnight Defense’ (a castle defence type mini game, utilising traps to defend vats of Overcharge used to create ‘Amps’ which are perks that can be equipped to weapons.)
There are the usual challenge trials dotted around the city that offer Bronze, Silver and Gold medals that reward the player with customisation items and in game currency and also offer leaderboards for friends and on a global scale. All of these editions help boost the play time and re-playability of the title significantly, and I myself have put in over 40 hours and am still going back for more.

Finally there is a multiplayer function in the game that allows up to eight players to play a game called ‘Chaos Squad’ in which the players take part in a series of challenges together in which they attempt to rack up the highest percentage of ‘Chaos’ which offer specific rewards at the end of the game. The multiplayer is fun and engaging however I feel it really is an afterthought and the single player is where you’ll sink at least ninety percent of your time. Unfortunately there is no multiplayer free roaming option which is a real shame as it has been an expected option in almost all open world, third person shooter games.

Overall Sunset Overdrive is a quirky, funny and fresh title for the Xbox One console that offers at least 30-40 hours of quality game play for even hardcore gamers. If you enjoy games that don’t take themselves too seriously and focus more on the player experience over frame rate or pixel ratio then this is the one for you.

Initially I was not going to buy this game. The game looked cool in all the press released info but it just seemed like Jet Grind radio mixed with Crackdown. Not as if that is a bad thing but just did not excite me to want to purchase the game.

They even had a Free play the game week-end in which you could get achievements and I still did not play it. Fast Forward to my sons birthday

Fast Forward to my sons birthday and for some strange reason that was the game he wanted. So I bought it for him and I ended up playing it more than he does.

The game is just like a blend of Jet Grind Radio and Crackdown which like I said previously is not a bad thing. I still have some issues with not loving the game just liking it.

As per usual the Season Pass has let me down and was not worth the price with what you get.

I would not have paid retail but for $29.99 for the Day One Edition on Sale was a good Deal.

A crazy game that is a lot of fun to play. Graphics are really good comic book style. I haven't had time to finish the game yet but definitely plan on it. I won't lie, at first glance the game looks absolutely boring and bland, but that's because for some reason the developers chose to start the game in a depressing, scarce, and boring looking brewery area, and to top it all off the first main character you meet is an annoying turd who has a permanent hard-on for amps. As you journey out of the brewery, the game becomes more vivid and exciting as you view more saturated and varied environments. It's kind of like the game builds up quality over a short time.

The humor is great, but the greatest humor is from your own player character, and you can't help but build a connection with them. The characters are very characteristic and have their own perks that make them unique. The story is... surprisingly great and immersing as you explore different areas that somewhat represent different social cliques. Graphics are great and animations are fluid.

However, there are some things that aren't so great as well. The music is very generic for some reason, it would have been brilliant if they had added punk or indie rock to the soundtrack to bring in some more life and excitement to the game. Also, one thing I didn't like was the late game. I won't spoil it, but it isn't very in-depth and feels very rushed, I barely got to know any of the people there.

In the end, the game is pretty great, but it isn't the best game in the world. In the reviews, there are either hyped and overzealous Xbox One fanboys or Butthurt Ps4 fanboys. Either way, the game is pretty great and you should pick it up.

It is the one of the best Xbox One games after Halo and maybe as good as Forza Motorsport.
Also I think is as good as GTA V but without drugs and sex. In reality is so similar:

You have your character, you use weapons, you have a lot of missions and you have a big and open world. The difference is that Sunset is in an apocalyptic map and the enemies are monsters.

The story could have been better and longer, but the gameplay was so fluid, and most of the weapons were fun to use, too. I would definitely buy a sequel.

Don't listen to the negative reviews, odds are they are Sony fan boys who wanna hate because this game isn't on their system. I have played about 11 hours so far and have had a blast! This is truly the first real next gen game to come out, and a fun one at that.

It is quite polished with a decent idea & setting, too bad the story isn't up to scratch. . Being 720p I also couldnt really tell the difference from 1080p as it runs quite smoothly. The enemies are monotonous and dont quite vary enough to keep you immersed or engaged. One major issue I have is the much hyped environment traversal. Only now after playing for hours have I quite got the hang of grinding and bouncing through the city, yet it is still excruciatingly painful for a fair portion of the time. I read a previous review of this game and they described it as "Infamous for kids", and I have to say I agree with this statement somewhat. Fair enough the city has been taken over by mutants but it just doesn't feel like it was ever alive or living and breathing. The major problem with this game however is the quest structure. 80% of the quests/activities are fetch quests. These are mostly similar to the previous quest or exactly the same. This game gets boring and old quickly, it doesnt quite have the pulling power to keep you entertained for long periods of time as I find myself getting agitated with all the grinding and jumping and repeat quests. Lastly i'd say this isnt targeted at mature audiences despite the crass humour. 6/10 Expand

If you are more of a story driven player, I'd rent it out or buy it, and return it if you don't like it, mainly because I think the strong point of the game is weapons and parkour. I wouldn't advise getting it digitally though.

But I think this game is a great exclusive for the Xbox One, and I think that anyone looking for a good time on the Xbox One should definitely pick this up.

    I give Sunset Overdrive, a 9.5/10

This needed to be better to silence PS4 fanboys.

This game is funny, childish, and repetitive. It looks good, frame rate is great and controls are slick.
You'd be hard pressed to dislike it.. All it's shortcomings are not enough to make this a bad game.
The multiplyer really needs to allows story mode coop.

Just finished the game. I consider this game a big step forward in the open sandbox realm. Great world design, with stellar platforming and rail grinding, plus lots of fun guns. And imaginative, bigger than life, boss fights! Special call-out to the respawn animations. A small thing, but it shows the kind of attention that went into even the smallest elements of this game. Loved it. The only game of Xbox One I have, besides The Master Chief Collection, but it is simply excellent. I have played open-world games before, but never like this. The excitement never stops, the missions are witty, and the story is just good video-game fun. Good visuals, an attractive personalization and a game play that takes known elements and gives them a great and different perspective.
