Despite the handful of drawbacks, if you like love themed visual novels and appreciate delicious CGs of food, then Strawberry Vinegar on Xbox One is good enough to satiate your taste buds.

Strawberry Vinegar has 6 possible endings, with 1 play through possibly taking you around 6 hours. If you’re keen to see them all, then you’ll get a lot of content for your money. I liked how characters moved within the scenes, rather than being just static images too. However, it’s likely you’ll know if this is for you from the visuals above, and sadly I do not fall into that camp.

Sakuraba Rie is a cranky, cynical, nine-year-old girl, who enjoys cooking, and bullies her father. Rie doesn't have any friends, and one day a demon appears in her kitchen to steal a tray of cookies, and her soul. The Demon, Licia, acclaims that if she isn't fed delicious food, she will instead eat Rie's soul. The story isn't too terribly long and can be shorter depending on the choices you make along the way. The story comes to you in segments, with character portraits drawn for each character, and the given emotions they are to portray at any given time that pops up when each character is speaking. At the end of each segment, you're given a choice to make as Rie, each of these choices has the potential to branch the story onto a different path towards one of six endings. After a short while with the characters, I question the writer's choice of age for the character, as she is verging genius, and conceptualizes situations more like a teenager. Overall the story was interesting enough to keep me wanting to know what's coming, and the length of the story seemed to depend on how well the choices I made did for Licia and Rie's relationship. If you enjoy a good story, and a pick your path style Visual Novel, Strawberry Vinegar is worth a read or six. Expand
