The game was fun while it lasted. Once I finished the first map, I haven't been very inclined to play more. i do have a slight interest in the latest mode added though.

The game is 0 points. Because it bothers you very quickly, it does not make sense, there is little content, stupid enemies, stupid tasks. But the price tag is like a good AA game. Lags at first on consoles. Another trash from Microsoft.

The amount of negative reviews is downright BS. Everyone holding this 30 dollar game to the standards of full priced AAA studios. Ridiculous. SoD2 improved on every aspect of its predecessor. Period.

Its not perfect for sure but critics and users scoring it lower than the first game are just ignorant.

Right away, I noticed that the studio did not try to get brazen and repair something that wasn't broken; which was the core gameplay. You still run communities, scavenge and handle the undead the same, but there have been some welcome changes like improvements to combat and overall map design. Personally, I like that they played it safe and improved on what worked.
The added co-op only seems to make the game easier, which to me seemed annoying. You'd figure, the more non-AI players you have, the harder the game gets; requiring you to work together to survive.

All I got, was players handing buttloads of supplies, high powered weapons and ammo. (Which is nice, but really kills the whole point of survival.) Personally, I prefer AI to normal players for this type game *shrugs* Although, there is a lot of untapped potential for multiplayer in a game like this.

Then there are the bad things. Bugs are still bad and quest still have disappearing NPCs. Thankfully, the developers did give us a quick fix, know as the "stuck" command. Yep, you can radio to have you or car unstuck if you glitch. (Provided zombies are stomping your ass, while doing this. Which they will.) Also, you can't play this game for longer that 3 hours. After that, you will get bored and frustrated (provided you aren't surviving well, which happens A LOT) Granted, this one doesn't really stack the odds against you as bad as playing SoD1's Breakdown DLC.

Questing is pointless, save for gaining new survivors, who also seem to have less personality than it's predecessor. In regards to questing, the game falls flat. Had they added a story section to each region, it would've given the scavenging and expanding, a sense of purpose.

State of Decay 2 truly is improvement in terms of core gameplay, but leaves you feeling hollow with its lack of a good story and hordes of game bugs. Killing zombies and building yourself to survive it all is still fun, but that is where its at.

Which is a shame, because the developer could've done so much more. Maybe its because M$ didn't throw enough checks at them for a good quality QA team and writers. Honestly, I wasn't expecting a ton of improvement from this tiny studio, but there was a lot of potential to be had, considering that Microsoft had so few 1st party titles to carry their system.

I'll still play it, but if your not a fan of the game, this will be a pass.

The big change for me was that with every save you create you get a different set of characters and a different map meaning if you want to start over it doesn’t feel like boring and monotonous. But after a few hours no matter the save it starts to feel just that boring and monotonous, it feels as if you’re doing the same thing over and over and by the end of it I wasn’t doing things because I wanted to but because I don’t want things to get any worse for my play session hoping it would mean I could do some more things that I wanted to do but that never happened, and after a few hours of the same style of missions you just begin to pray for some time to do what you want to do.
However, the implementation of multiplayer may combat this issue with friends making it more fun, however I did not play any of the multiplayer and from what I’ve seen it’s not entirely a smooth experience. This is why I haven’t used the multiplayer to inform my score since I see both positives and negatives and without playing it I can’t assess which creates a stronger feeling of enjoyment or distain.
Another issue is the glitches, they’re bountiful. It’s not uncommon to run into something that is obviously unintentional and it destroys the sense of emersion that is essential for a game designed to give you the chance to act as if you’re apart of this zombie apocalypse.
Overall, I don’t regret my choice to play the game but I don’t think I would care too much if I missed it entirely. Once again a Xbox semi-exclusive doesn’t compare to the games like Detroit, God of War & Spiderman (from what we’ve seen it seems set to be an instant classic).

State of Decay 2 has a lot going for it if you're into the genre - it's both extremely frustrating and very addicting. For as ambitious as it's scope you can't help but notice they only slapped one coat of paint on it at times, but i generally don't complain too much about slight technical glitches if the core gameplay mechanic is solid. For as ambitious as it's scope you can't help but notice they only slapped one coat of paint on it at times, but i generally don't complain too much about slight technical glitches if the core gameplay mechanic is solid. Where I would call it's level of resource management rather overwhelming and meticulous, if you press through it you'll eventually see the logic of its ways.

This game is mostly run-of-the-mill fetch questing in an open world environment. You set up a base and then fortify it with other random survivors you find on the map. It does a good job of covering what would be considered necessary basics in the zombie apocalypse in a very general sense that becomes more natural to you through trial and error.

It's really a low-impact game, and doesn't require a lot of twitchy focus to have a good time - that being said the name of the game is BE PREPARED. If you run out looking for supplies without some of your own, things may turn sour pretty quickly and you'll find your character out of stamina limping away from a car that got glitched on a guard rail - cursing the 4 rucksacks you've squirreled away in the trunk as you save your last burst of dodge power to avoid that flashing dot directly behind you on your radar for a thousand yards or so back to your home base or outpost.

As you use different characters in your community you level up their general stats and this happens pretty quickly, so you get a lot of rewarding feedback from the game regularly that keeps you trekking forward.

I really recommend playing the game more in shorter bursts of an hour or so - after a while constantly calling in on the network to find food because none of your survivors knows how to garden and can't learn a new skill can get tiring, and you may end up losing one of your favorite community members. for good. Honestly your first playthru of this game will be more of a warmup for your next better-planned community, but that mostly depends on how excited you are about getting it better the next time around or moving to a different game.

In closing - there are LOTS of glitches, they will frustrate you a lot at times - you will lose resources and seemingly not be able to finish side quests for no reason without direction. That being said, I like smashing in zombies and managing statistics in video games. I feel the scope and general feeling of reward from taking care of your end times community makes most of these complaints minimal in the grand scheme of open world games today. I'm sure i'll eventually lose interest in it's repetitiveness like I have all other games that follow similar layouts - but I'm definitely enjoying it for the time being and have already gotten my money's worth out of this budget title. Recommended!

pretty good sequel to the first game it improves on every aspect of the first state of decay if you can get past the online issues and glitches and a slightly choppy frame rate it is a good game it can be difficult some times and a difficulty option would be great and the limited co-op needs more and the draw distance is terrible sadly the game just needs support and it will be fine.

For a survivalist game bugs and glitches are the worse thing to encounter. Because every action has real consequences and if your game is bugging out like this one does on a steady basis and new ones forming as if the bugs are AI your frustration overcomes the simplest tasks and its like the bugs are mutating as the game progresses. I.ve never seen anything like it in all my life. You can think of this game as GTA (similar open world, driving, and shooting gameplay) meets Sims (community management, base building, resource management) meets survival zombie game. Your characters permanently die once they are dead but you can recruit new ones. You upgrade a lot of different aspects of your gameplay, from upgrading each individual's stats to giving them perks, to upgrading your base's buildings, resource upkeep, upgrading regular vehicles to armored cars, etc. nearly every aspect of your control you can upgrade which is what I liked. Once you beat the game you can take three of your survivors and start a new community. Depending on which type of character was your leader when you beat it the first time, you unlock a special perk that adds onto your new community with up to four different perks. So you can beat this game 4 times. There are 3 different open world maps you can navigate and every character is different than the last. There are some issues that need to be ironed out like some bugs but if you go into Settings and switch to Offline so that nobody can join your game you will see way less bugs, at least from my experience I rarely run into any issues in Offline mode. If you liked the first State of Decay I think you would like this but it plays out more similarly to the Breakout DLC in SOD1, where it's just an open world map with little story, opposed to the main campaign. With the Ultimate Edition you will get some item unlocks that will be included with purchase but way more in a DLC pack coming later. There is also a completely different campaign DLC that will be released in the future also in the Ultimate Edition pack. All in all, I love these games but there are not for everybody and things can get really hairy, your community can just start dying, people can leave your community, etc. if you're not on top of things but once you get a good grasp on the cake it becomes much more manageable. The looting and RPG mechanics are top notch and the fun factor is 10x better than God of War 4. The graphics on pc and the X are not that bad at all. In fact outside of some soupy textures here and there the game actually looks really good. IMO this game is more of a single player game. The multiplayer would be the part I take points away. I dont like how you cant run through the game with friends and have everything save together. This "helping out" crap is probably the most stupid idea I have ever seen in a game. They need to take note from games like Dying Light. I also think that now that they have been fully acquired by MS the graphics moving forward in future games will look like Dying Light games.

I do feel Xbox games have been unfairly reviewed this entire gen. Whether it be pixels to bugs most reviewers are leaving fun factor out of their reviews and that's BS. This game is incredibly fun and addicting! Over 2 million people bought it a week after it released and every time I am in my local Walmart there aren't any copies available.

But certain aspects of the game have completely ruined it in my opinion. First, fuel runs out in vehicles way too fast. Every vehicle in the game must literally use gallons per mile instead of getting miles per gallon. Second, all zombies should have been just the basic zombie. The developers' obsession with "boss level" enemies/zombies just makes the game too difficult and frustrating at times and ruins the game, especially when all deaths are final and permanent. And the fact that all weapons, melee and firearm, take damage every time they are used is insane. I broke a crowbar after using it against regular zombies maybe a dozen times. In real life, I could hit concrete as hard as I can with a crowbar all day every day and never ever break it. And a pistol I used in the game broke, didn't just run out of ammo, but broke, after only a couple dozen shots. If this game did not have Feral or Juggernaut zombies, guns never wore out, jammed, or broke, ammo was more plentiful, certain melee weapons like crowbars, aluminum and steel bats, and machetes never broke, fuel consumption in vehicles was more realistic for scale distances, vehicles could be repaired automatically when parked in a reserved space at your base if you had a community member with a mechanic skill, and it offered the kind of auto aim option seen in GTA V and GTA Online for non-scoped weapons, and allowed you to look through the scope and zoom in when using a scoped weapon, and you didn't keep getting asked to cover random npcs from other communities in suicide missions, and you didn't need a gardening skill to grow food in a garden, and home base was completely secure with no zombies ever able to get into your base, then this could have been a great game. Especially if it also offered easy ways to upgrade vehicles in the game without requiring a vehicle workshop that I seem unable to even add to my base in spite of having a community member with a 5-star mechanic skill, and a special kit that seems unobtainable. Deben mejorar la versión de Xbox, urgentemente, asi como mejorar animaciones como por ejemplo las de parkour, que son las mas claras y las que mas verdes he visto.

Innovations in State of Decay 2 don´t solve any problems, but rather add some more. The game unnecessarily forces on its multiplayer and feels very impersonal. [Issue#287]

State of Decay 2 is going to be very hit and miss for a number of people. If you can ignore the flaws, there is a fun game to be had when played with a friend. That said, even if you ignore its flaws, you can’t deny that this game was not ready for release.

Generally State of Decay 2 looks more like a remaster of the original game than a true sequel. It just does not expand the formula enough and still contains too many repetitive activities that make you go through the motions for the sake of getting it done. That’s why I recommend playing it in short sessions. I have no doubt that people unfamiliar with the first State of Decay will enjoy the second one much more, as everything will be new to them.
