The original State of Decay is a game that I placed a huge amount of enjoyable hours into and to say I was looking forward to State of Decay 2 would be a massive understatement. Thankfully State of Decay 2 pretty much met my lofty expectations in all areas and despite it suffering with a few problems here and there it’s quite clear to see that this game has significant improvements over the original. The biggest and most enjoyable improvement for me was without a doubt the combat. The combat in the game is excellent and killing zombies never gets boring thanks to the varied and satisfying moves you can perform on the zombies. The gameplay on the whole feels improved as well and in my opinion it remains fun for longer. The main reason why it remains fun for longer is because it has more variety than in the previous game and this variety is definitely evident in both the missions you can undertake and the maps you undertake the missions on. If you like game’s that offer you lots of content then you will love State of Decay 2. I’m not exaggerating when I say that there’s almost an endless amount of replayability present in this game and the best thing is that this content can be enjoyed in both short bursts and long periods as well. When playing the game though you will however bump into a few bugs along the way, and whilst most of these bugs are small and not game-breaking they can still be frustrating and ruin the immersion levels somewhat at times. I was however able to look past these issues quite easily because you end up forgetting about them thanks to the different mechanics and elements the game has. Thankfully these different mechanics hold up really well most of the time and can be enjoyed in both single player and multiplayer. I must admit that I was really looking forward to the game’s multiplayer offering and thankfully when it works it’s really fun. The multiplayer option though does suffer with a few problems and they will have to make some tweaks to make it a better experience, but I appreciate the effort that has gone into the core idea though. Without a doubt one of my favourite things about the game was the presentation side of the things. Visually the game can look awesome at times and the accompanying sound design creates a very eerie atmosphere which in turn makes you become very immersed in the gameplay. At the end of the day if you were a fan of the first State of Decay then you will thoroughly enjoy State of Decay 2. It’s took what was good from the first game and improved it and even though it suffers with quite a few bugs these bugs still didn’t stop me from having a very enjoyable experience and these bugs also don’t stop me from giving the game a big thumbs up. State of Decay 2 has a lot going for it if you're into the genre - it's both extremely frustrating and very addicting. For as ambitious as it's scope you can't help but notice they only slapped one coat of paint on it at times, but i generally don't complain too much about slight technical glitches if the core gameplay mechanic is solid. For as ambitious as it's scope you can't help but notice they only slapped one coat of paint on it at times, but i generally don't complain too much about slight technical glitches if the core gameplay mechanic is solid. Where I would call it's level of resource management rather overwhelming and meticulous, if you press through it you'll eventually see the logic of its ways.

This game is mostly run-of-the-mill fetch questing in an open world environment. You set up a base and then fortify it with other random survivors you find on the map. It does a good job of covering what would be considered necessary basics in the zombie apocalypse in a very general sense that becomes more natural to you through trial and error.

It's really a low-impact game, and doesn't require a lot of twitchy focus to have a good time - that being said the name of the game is BE PREPARED. If you run out looking for supplies without some of your own, things may turn sour pretty quickly and you'll find your character out of stamina limping away from a car that got glitched on a guard rail - cursing the 4 rucksacks you've squirreled away in the trunk as you save your last burst of dodge power to avoid that flashing dot directly behind you on your radar for a thousand yards or so back to your home base or outpost.

As you use different characters in your community you level up their general stats and this happens pretty quickly, so you get a lot of rewarding feedback from the game regularly that keeps you trekking forward.

I really recommend playing the game more in shorter bursts of an hour or so - after a while constantly calling in on the network to find food because none of your survivors knows how to garden and can't learn a new skill can get tiring, and you may end up losing one of your favorite community members. for good. Honestly your first playthru of this game will be more of a warmup for your next better-planned community, but that mostly depends on how excited you are about getting it better the next time around or moving to a different game.

In closing - there are LOTS of glitches, they will frustrate you a lot at times - you will lose resources and seemingly not be able to finish side quests for no reason without direction. That being said, I like smashing in zombies and managing statistics in video games. I feel the scope and general feeling of reward from taking care of your end times community makes most of these complaints minimal in the grand scheme of open world games today. I'm sure i'll eventually lose interest in it's repetitiveness like I have all other games that follow similar layouts - but I'm definitely enjoying it for the time being and have already gotten my money's worth out of this budget title. Recommended!

Game is not as bad as people says, the are overexaggerate the whole thing. Of course there are some bugs, but the game is definetly playable and the whole franchise is not for everyone. People compare this game with God of War which is really really unfair. The hate towards Xbox is getting very stupid now. If you are not sure about getting it, try GamePass. Its cheap.

    Great survival game IMO.

This game is very interesting and has potential to push innovation in gaming further and here is why. I would not recommend to play it alone as its all beauty is in coop. After couple of hours this game becomes addictive. You cannot stop - and it is designed in such way. There is no pause.
How to describe this game? It is difficult, but: tower defense, survival, RPG.
    Pros:
    - Pretty deep RPG elements
    - Coop: map belongs to host, 4 players, loot sharing by dropping at the host base or on the floor, fight together, simultaneous and personalized loot locations and loot itself, facilities sharing, community materials sharing
    - Map exploration: well developed
    - Building and upgrades: well developed
    - Sound design is very good
    - Art and graphics are very good
    Cons:
    - Coop could be developed further - this area was underexplored. I wish that progress could be shared and map, though hosted, could be used even if host is offline. This was never done (or I have not seen decent implementation) before.
    - Coop limited because of the focus to cover solo/single player audience. When playing coop this looks artificial.
    - Bugs
    - Community roster cannot be shared. We could create and join community and then community could be synced to all players and every coop player could be bring something to the community and have almost equal rights. There could a place for drama, like going rogue etc.
    - Controls could be improved.
When reading reviews you could probably see that solo players will give it lower scores. But even if you do not like this kind of games I encourage to give it a try - potential is here, I would expect coop modes to evolve into dedicated gameplay.

If a game had bugs and was rubbish you simply wouldn't play it but this game even with it's flaws is so addictive you put up with the bugs. Because of it's permadeath system there is no lets give that a go, nope that didn't work lets try a different way, instead you have to try and make it go perfect right off the bat or your favourite character may end up dead with no way of ever getting him/her back, once you're dead you stay dead just like if it was a real life apocalypse, decisions have to be made fast with no guidance, there is no sat nav so you need to know where you are going before you head out which may annoy anyone under 30 who can't read a map, this is no brain dead FPS your brain will be constantly active trying to think of multiple things to do at the same time which when you first start out may seem overwhelming. Sometimes ( quite alot actually ) you will have multiple missions with time limits that just aren't possible to do all of them so you have to decide who you abandon and who you save making everyones game uniquely different. Some people say there is no story ? Come on people if you woke up tomorrow in a zombie apocaylpse where is your story or would you be more worried where your next meal was coming from, I'm going to lean towards the the latter, the story is what you make it. If this game had no bugs it would be a 10. This a must buy for any intelligent humans out there but if you're a brain dead zombie then you might want to pop over to res 2 for your 5 hours of content. Generally State of Decay 2 looks more like a remaster of the original game than a true sequel. It just does not expand the formula enough and still contains too many repetitive activities that make you go through the motions for the sake of getting it done. That’s why I recommend playing it in short sessions. I have no doubt that people unfamiliar with the first State of Decay will enjoy the second one much more, as everything will be new to them.
