Alas i find state of decay 2 lacking.. the game feels rushed. The 5 hours i have put into the game so far following just the games quests... Mind you, not just wandering around... i have been asking what? why?? huh..?

A character creator even a basic one is a staple in games these days... vary rarely do games not have a character creator and tell a decent story. It is sorely needed and one of very few things i thought was missing from SoD. The base building is almost the same... except more options and mods.. it needs better options not more... reinforce fencing, expand area... herp a derp???

Larger bases or expandable bases would have been better... more defense options would have been nice.. not even 5 hours in and im getting sieged by zombie hordes every 30 minutes. all i did was build the basics, pharmacy water catch, watch tower oh and removed garbage and fixed the master bedroom. How is that 2 of 3 bars.

Nothing i/we built makes noise... the lookout tower upgraded to level 2 even..nothing makes noise... its not like we have flood lights thanks to good ol electricity.. one of the mods is a generator adding electricity if you refuel it to an area of your base....

SoD allows to you just grab a vehicle and go... SoD2 you need gas for cars and repair kits...... its very tedious early and a waste of inventory space later. i did not want to micro manage every single aspect of a human being.... breathing... its to much micro managing... food, medicine, ammo, salvage... that was what you needed in SoD, now you need water and electricity, gas and some other bs.. oh and cars are much fewer all carry 5-6 items/sacks.

this game just feels really rushed... Haven't they been working on SoD2 for about 4 years now? Wth happened? the blood plague was just a bad **** idea... it gets a bit ridiculous..

I really really liked SoD but SoD2 is missing too much and is far to buggy. even after the updates i lost a vehicle and got stuck just running on top of a stack of bricks in a truck at the nursery. my character got stuck inside the small (should have been easy to jump over) bricks.

Did they even play test this game at all..... the problems i've had already and i literally just bought an x1s and this game... tempted to return both.

Graphics are not his gen at all, the world is empty and dull and visuals are just not impressive for this gen, if it looked last gen but ran at 60FPS it would be fine, but nope its a 30fps game. The games has less bugs than the first, less, the first game was literally unplayable with bugs, so yeah there is less.
One of the most annoying thing is the characters. SOD1 had actually interesting characters, there was some attractive girls as you would want in your end on the world zombie fantasy and many side stories and charters you ended up interested even caring about.
The Character in SOD2 are just crazy bland, there stories are the most uninteresting bunk you could imagine, find tools and record players, crap like that. And most imitating more offensively is they have clearly gone with "Averting of the Male Gaze" thing woke developers love these days. Making every female character just plain ugly and completely unappealing, so as not to appeal MEN!! MEN the main supporters and consumers of their product, they set out to not appeal to them!!!! Many men in the game are very attractive, so they know how to model and make faces, just decided their male fan should only get uggos in their survivor fantasy.
Overall the game is a hard pass, there a few interesting hours at the start as you learn the game, but then quickly become a chore as the whiney ugly woman contact every 30 secs to demand something.

I'm very disappointed in the game I was really looking forward to it and it just doesn't deliver any entertainment value at all

While many of these are great games or fun modes, it gets to the point where they all feel the same. When the original State of Decay was released, it was a mixed bactch of old and new mechanics that worked well, but overall was a flawed experience. The one thing that it got right was death: when your character died, there was no reloading a checkpoint to try again - the character and any of the precious items they were holding were gone. You were then given the option to take over one of the other survivors in your encampment. The settlements were one of the things that made the original unique but was a double-edged sword, as the settlement required so much attention that you rarely had time to go out and explore the game world or scavenge for supplies.pres

All in all, the sequel paints a much prettier landscape to explore, but many of the other lingering issues remain. The settlements in this are almost as annoying as Preston Garvey requesting your assistance with a settlement in Fallout 4. Any time I ventured outside of the base, I was told that it was under attack, often meaning I would have to scramble back to avoid a catastrophic loss, which I experienced early in the game on my initial playthrough. Playing the game in co-op is a nice change, but you are required to stay within a close proximity to the host. Allowing you to have one or two of your comrades stay at the base to keep it safe while you and your optional fourth friend scavenge would have been a more ideal situation, but the opportunity for this was passed up. I'm not sure if co-op was an afterthought, but in addition to this limitation, your character will not gain any progress towards their own game when helping out a friend.

Like I mentioned previously, the visuals have been greatly improved, especially the open world. The outdoor aspects are on par with many of the AAA open world titles on the market today. Sadly, the same cannot be said about the interior spaces, which often appear flat and lifeless. You'll also come across many rooms or garages that are carbon copies of the house you were just in minutes before. Since repetition is a huge part of this game, the zombie models are limited as well, with hoards of the same zombies lingering about. While they move well, the visuals accompanying the head-shots are simply dreadful, with the heads popping as if they were nothing but helium filled balloons. I have played and enjoyed games with visuals this bad, if not worse, but it doesn’t help with immersion.

The general control scheme works well, although the lack of direction in the game world as well as the building mechanics makes this title highly inaccessible. During the opening mission, I spent well over a half hour simply trying to find where in the base to drop off the mission specific item I was sent to retrieve. Much like the original, the story mode consists primarily of never ending fetch quests, or going out to search for other settlements to potentially bring into your own. What do the new settlements want, you ask? You can always expect an assortment of fetch quests. I also found it rather startling that while they asked me to go find food, they didn't care that I stole their food sitting out in their camp - not even a harsh word is said.

While the co-op can be satisfying, the overall package and lack of progression make this feel like a self-published release and far from the standard Microsoft has been known for. After the failed release of Sea of Thieves you'd think they would learn their lesson, but at this point it's easy to see why they have been releasing their mediocre first party games for free via the Game Pass subscription service. If you're like me and are a Game Pass subscriber, it's worth a go for a few hours of entertainment, but I would strongly recommend not paying full retail price for State of Decay 2.

Xbox 360 Graphics in retro is better than this crap.
The game crashed in a short time.
Poor content if you compare with the SOD1.
Only added one new Zombi, disease, cooperative and 4K support.

    Bugs. Bugs. Bugs.

Once you load into a game, anything that changes(outposts founded, anything is built, doors that were open before you logged in) will not appear. I played the game for 3 hours before I even knew what the medical center looked like because instead of building it for me, the game preferred to just allow the NPCs to float in the air.

I could not assist any new players because as a visitor in their community I do not have access to a bulk of the menus. It also was not made clear that the store lockers are assigned to the players, not the community. This means that I can hop into others world and essentially steal their loot for my own community, telling them I found scraps instead of being honest about a decent weapon or backpack that I may of actually uncovered.

This game, even with the current bugs is really fun. However as I've continued to play the game and saw no changes to these bugs to the point that I know what causes them and how to remedy them, it's hard to believe this game was released without knowledge that they are in the game. Releasing a product and charging for the product, knowing the product isn't finished or polished beyond a rare occurrence, cannot/should not receive a score greater than 5.

The game is glitchy as hell, knocking you out of the game even in single player over and over again at the worst times, like while you are driving and then you load in, up the road from your car (it does this in single player as well). To make it worse because of the disconnect and stuttering you can end up totaling a car in the middle of nowhere so that you can enjoy a long hike back to base without the resources you were out collecting.

Also don't bother taking anyone with you when you go out of base, half the time they won't attack the zombies till they have taken several large bites out of your back stolen your wallet and gave you a swirly. To make followers worse they can be in perfect health and armed to the teeth only to be killed by a foul tempered butterfly. Having said all this, the idea of a good game is in here somewhere, IDK where but it is, but fu*k the NPC **** man at least space that sh*t out a few minutes PLEASE.

Dont buy this game, dont play this game, people have to learn to put effort into things and developers need to play test their own games.

The game grabs your attention right away as you find and begin to build a settlement and level-up your characters.
However, the game soon devolves into a series of never-ending chores punctuated by mission that roll in faster than can be addressed. And this is when the frustration really sets in. One of the key aspects of the game is managing inventory and survivors. However, when on a mission, you can't switch between survivors without canceling the mission. Want to switch characters because your currently controlled character injured? Too bad. The game won't allow it without cancelling the mission. Oh, and some missions are on a timer, which is kept a mystery to the player. More than once I've been halfway across the map heading towards a mission only to have it time-out, even though no timer was indicated.
There are other annoying features as well. The game advises the player to take a companion with you, but most of the time they're so brainless, they only serve as a pack mule to help you carry stuff, but you can't switch to their inventory when on a mission. The game also advises you to use explosives to destroy plague hearts, but as you encounter one, your companion runs up to melee the thing only to be knocked back and injured by your explosives.
And then there are zombies. The game world populates very fast with zombies. And more than a few times I've cleared out an area only to have a massive hoard of zombies magically appear seconds later and attack me.
But your enemies aren't all zombies. In this game you are constantly battling against bugs. Your driving full speed and suddenly your vehicle hits an invisible object. Sometimes that invisible object causes your ride to catch fire. Sometimes a bug prevents you from exiting the flaming wreck and you die.
When your character dies, they're gone from the game. That's it. There's not player-controlled save-game feature, so when the character you've spent hours leveling up suddenly dies due to flaws in the game, it's very frustrating.
The game's title: State of Decay is an appropriate one as it seems to aptly describe this series.

Generally State of Decay 2 looks more like a remaster of the original game than a true sequel. It just does not expand the formula enough and still contains too many repetitive activities that make you go through the motions for the sake of getting it done. That’s why I recommend playing it in short sessions. I have no doubt that people unfamiliar with the first State of Decay will enjoy the second one much more, as everything will be new to them.
