Spike Volleyball is an overdue indoor volley simulation, with some good ideas but too many technical problems.

Yes there are the occasional good bits, and it’s reasonably decent fun to be able to take a solo career team on a journey to success, but at the end of the day you’ll have to be a huge fan and follower of all things volleyball in order to really find enjoyment. And even then, it’s not a patch on what we find down at the beach, even more so when you take into account the horrendous price being asked.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a casual volleyball player i love this game i don't remember the last indoor volleyball game i actually had fun playing. However, as a gamer i'm a little disappointed. The graphics needs work. The framing of the game as well. The environment of the game such as the players in the background are pretty fair. I felt that maybe the developers should have focused more on the actual players/coaches then with the people from the background . The players face may look a bit non-emotional in some camera angles however, i do like the way their faces ,make when hitting the ball seems pretty good. In addition, again for a game that hasn't touch this center sporting game is still pretty good i was surprise the way the players would jump server. And i love how incorporate that time is everything for realistically in the actual game it really is. Again, as i am actively playing the game the bad frames would screw up my setter in approaching the ball or the player would be there but for some reason would not be able to receive the ball or to set. (A must fix!!) Also, i know that in faults are known as errors, this is something that gets mew upset for not once will i have a zero error(of course performance wise there will be mistakes but i am talking about the lag or the speed of the frame works needs improvement.) The other thing that also gets in my nerve is the indication of where the ball is going to land i understand the you have to press the proper moment for a "perfect set " but common sometimes i'm like how in the hell the player got that ball without it looking that ball just got hit by a supernatural force. Initially, i do have a lot of problems with this game however, i do appreciate the game developers to try and bring volleyball back in its rightful place because it is a great sport and by far the only sport game i am able to play (Being biased i love volleyball). And i am very engage with the career mode i thought that was very smart i honestly just prefer playing career mode then any other mode. Suggestion: maybe if you weren't afraid and actually investigate how it actually works would be awesome. For example, like the player being able to pick their players from the scratch would be nice to find a way for the players to improve their level instead of having to hire a recruiter to find a players. Half the time my recruits would fail in getting me a new player. In addition, this game needs to do more research on the actual volleyball rules. For example, like able to sub after a rally, more terms, better commentators, more diverse players, being able to unlock new items, such as uniforms, or unlock a better coach, or unlocking legendary players, You can do so much more. it just felt like the game developers just did a little research and was like ok i think i know what this game is about. Despite the lack of the proper materials i still enjoy this game and is probably going to be my favorite sports game for sometime and would like to say thank you for the time and making this game as a beach and indoor volleyball fan i really appreciate it. There are a decent amount of modes for you to select from and the added inclusion of online means there is some replayabilty present. I found the game focused a lot on the teamwork side of things and when you win a game you get a very rewarding feeling because of this. Getting used to the controls was an absolute nightmare and I also found that they weren’t always responsive as they could’ve been as well. Unfortunately the game suffers with a few technical issues which do hold the game back a bit for me. In terms of realism the game is a little off and this does make your experience feel a bit "arcadey" At times which I prefer over realism. I found the career mode to be a little disappointing due to the lack of depth in the options available to me. I am a sports fan but I like sports games more than watching sometimes. Volleyball though isn’t a sport I know much about my last experience was on the Superspike Volleyball on Neo Geo so many years ago and I also played some of the Sega Naomi in the arcades a few time,. so I went into playing Spike Volleyball with an idea as to what to expect. The presentation is not too bad at all but you lose sight of this quite quickly due to the array of technical issues (mainly me trying to get use to the controls).t. The immersion levels are further dwindled by the lack of realism as well and when you combine that with the unusual controls you end up a bit frustrated at times. When played with friends there is some fun to be had and I did enjoy some of the modes that were available in the game, but with every sports game you basically get the same feeling the same game. With my lack of volleyball experience I rated the game based on quality and my interest in the specific sport. If you are a lover of volleyball then 100% it's worth the purchase. So in the end, it's a good game in the end, I'm sure if I were more of a personal volleyball fan, then I would have more easily grasped the control set-up, and have scored it on a higher level. If you play volleyball purchase now, or if you just like sports games in general its worth a looking at. Expand
