Spectra is an average, straightforward racer that’s easy enough to grasp. And yet, it comes off as half finished.

Spectra is good clean fun, providing just the right amount of challenge without ever feeling unfair.

Had the team at Gateway implemented better controls, more diversity in level design and other features, Spectra could've easily been on its way to becoming a cult classic for this generation. As it stands, it's not bad for a $5 purchase, but more could've been done with it.

Spectra reminds me a great deal of Audiosurf, which is meant to be high praise as I have spent a lot of hours with both games in that franchise. However, while the soundtrack provided in Spectra is an excellent one, the inability to import more music of your own choosing and the lack of visual variety in the levels makes this title quite inferior.

With visceral, retro-inspired visuals and a fantastic chip-tunes soundtrack, Spectra is a twitch game aimed at those who miss the 80s. It's solid, too, but is ultimately marred by repetition, frustration and a notable lack of substance.

Spectra's a fine little racer that'll help kill time while you wait for a download. If just a couple of niggles had been ironed out and changed however, this could have been much better. [Issue#127, p.82]

An acid-fueled tribute to the chiptune scene, Spectra is high on musical euphoria and painfully low on gaming excitement.

Spectra is a missed opportunity that doesn't offer nearly enough variation to keep players enticed for very long.

Too meandering and dull to work as a twitchy arcade game, Spectra is saved from the ignominy of an even lower score by its sparkling soundtrack. A treat for the ears, then, but little more.

I had relatively high expectations for this game before it came out. This game exceeded them quite a bit. The gameplay was fun, the graphics really fit the theme that the developers were going for and the soundtrack really shines on this title. My only gripe was that they had one achievement that was glitched on launch day. However, they are working to fix that issue. I highly recommend this game at the shockingly low price of $7.49.
