  • Summary: Selma and the Wisp is a platform game with a particularly eerie feel to it. Densely packed with logical puzzles and unexpected obstacles, innovative gameplay.

The gameplay itself is unique, the visuals are decent and the sound works well without being spectacular, and it’s just the accuracy in the latter levels that see annoyances come about, mostly when Selma just won’t do what you want her to do. If you’re after a nice little treat for a good price though, then it may well be worth you heading into Selma’s dreamworld. Just try to not scream too loudly.

It may have been a cool game if it released in the early-'10s but Selma and the Wisp just feels dated and tiresome nowadays.

You Control the Wisp, and you are Selma's light guiding her through the darkness, and helping her face her fears. As you move the Wisp, Selma will follow after, with complete disregard for her own wellbeing. Both the Wisp and Selma have their own life bars, Selma can take damage from the environment, where the wisp loses life, or Light, at a slow and constant rate, and using some of the Wisps abilities can drain its light faster. The game is drab, and not just the setting. Playing through this game wasn't enjoyable, nor did it instill any feelings of dread, except the music, and ambient sound, that you dreaded to hear. At first, it reminded me of Limbo, with its nightmarish setting and dark flat aesthetic. but that sentiment slowly faded as I continued to play. The puzzles are frustrating, and sometimes it's all you can to barely make it to the next checkpoint to regain your light. This isn't even relieving, as you know something worse is to come. The entire experience was lackluster, and the only elation I felt was that it was over, and relatively short, taking me around 2 hours. I don't know who to recomend this game to, as I can't relate it to anything enjoyable I've played. Expand

I seem to have played alot of games like this recently. Really bad 2D "platformers". They're never just platformers anymore either, they'reI seem to have played alot of games like this recently. Really bad 2D "platformers". They're never just platformers anymore either, they're always puzzle games too. Now I never liked Limbo and this is like a bad version of that. I lost count of the amount of times I died thanks to stupid controls or just the character not doing as she was told. The end took me about 20 minutes longer than it should as she simply refused to climb a rope and kept dying.
You might like this more than me as it's really not my thing, but I can recognise that it's also a REALLY bad example of this sort of "puzzle" platformer.
