    Pros:

    Drums:
    Drums play smooth.
Drum navigation is nice because then you don't have a guy banging around on the drums and making you go through menus.
Bass petal is solid and works well.

    Guitar:
Keys and neck feel sturdy. Strum bar is solid and quiet. I really like playing with the higher frets.
Freestyle guitar solos are a lot of fun. Amp feedback sounds cool as you tilt your guitar and play during freestyle. Nob allows you to switch the sound of feedback.

    Microphone:
    Build feels high quality.
    Cord is longer

    Bass:
    No new features.
Would be neat if they introduced bass solos to make the instrument more enticing to play.

    Menu:
    Auto calibration works perfect.
Playing a show is fun. It lets you play song after song and vote on which song is next, to end the show, or play an encore. This seems ideal in a party setting and will help you pick songs quickly and keep the show rocking.
Tour mode is a familiar and fun feature. The character creation is simplistic and easy to grasp.
Of course you gotta turn on awesomeness detection.

    Cons:

Free style guitar solos feel gimmicky after a while and will make you want to just hear the normal solo after a while.
Freestyle vocals are hard to activate at times. You need to fill the whole gold bar with random words else it won’t activate.
    No online play (yet?)
No microphone connection on the instruments for party chat.
Wish microphone was wireless as the other instruments are.
Sometimes instruments lose sync during song. Not sure why?
The avatars you make can’t be used as standins (other instruments played by AI) which I hope is patched.
You can’t do batch downloads and have to download DLC individually.
Some Legacy DLC (DLC from RB1-3) is missing but will be added as time goes on. (RB1, RB2, Green Day, & Track Packs for example)

    Overall:
    Instruments feel very high quality.
    65 songs on disc.
Throwback to early Rock Band days with simple menus and features but solid clean gameplay.
Wireless instruments are awesome. (cutting the chords is nice, especially during the party with alot of people walking around) We’re coming from wired Gh2 explorers and rockband drums and microphone instruments. RB4 instruments feel like a dream compared to the old stuff.
Hopefully online play will be added in the future along with all DLC for download.
Harmonix said they plan on keeping Rb4 around for a while and will add features if enough people want them.

I find myself jamming out as hard as I did back in 2007 and I love it. Rock Band belongs on Next gen consoles and I’m glad it’s finally here. I now know what I was missing.

    Rock Band is back!

This game is everything you'd expect it to be, with some stuff added and other stuff removed. The good thing here is that most of the removed stuff will probably be added back to the game during it's life course, as Harmonix has stated that no other Rock Bands will be released on this console generation. PROS: - Extremely fun core game - Legacy instruments

    - Extremely fun core game
    - Legacy instruments support (I wouldn't be playing this if it wasn't for that)
    - Legacy DLC / Exports
    - Freestyle Guitar Solos
    - Freestyle Vocals
    - Shows Mode

    CONS (for now):

    - No online multiplayer
    - No practice mode
    - No detailed score breakdowns after songs
    - No playlists (Shows mode makes up for that)

The game also supports legacy controllers, so no need to buy new instruments if you've got old ones lying around. Old DLC and library can also be imported to the RB4. Just plain awesome, game.

Bringing your old DLC over is a bit tricky due to the hardware / marketplace on both the XB1 and PS4 but Harmonix is working diligently to smooth out licensing issues and make all your favorite tracks available as soon as possible.

Be ready to dump thousands of hours into Rock Band 4!

Solid entry to the franchise that I loved for years. Pros: getting my old dlc, and the freestyle solos. Maybe one of the few here that use the vocal option. Cons: need a standalone guitar, would have liked at launch.

I am thoroughly enjoying this new "platform" as they are calling it. The on-disc set-list is a good mix of songs that I knew and ones that I didn't. I've always appreciated the varied list of performers included in prior Rock Band titles. Having my DLC from the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One is an extreme plus.

While the game itself is the bare bones Rock Band experience as it was stated to be, it is still a great platform from which they intend to expand upon and is a solid entry in the franchise. New features and songs have been said to be the plan moving forward rather than a new game every so often and Rock Band 4 is an excellent party game from which to expand upon.

Make sure that you check Mad Catz's website for firmware updates for the instrument peripherals as recent updates have improved performance especially for the drums.

Best next-gen music game out there, with awesome updates to the instruments and fun/fast action to quickplay for parties. Love the series, LOVE this new game!

If you told me when the next generation of consoles launched that there was going to be a new Rock Band Game in the future, I wouldn't have believed you. Yet, here we are in 2015 with what is considered to be the final iteration of the series. As a devoted Harmonix fanboy, this game has fulfilled everything I wanted, and then some.

First off, the new instruments are great! I've always favored the Rock band guitars, and the Rock band 4 Stratocaster 4 is the epitome of all the models. They switched over to a contact-less strum bar that has a very strong, audible noise in comparison to previous guitars. The frets all take much less pressure to press down on, I'm actually getting better scores than i've ever gotten! Seriously, this guitar should convert people who normally prefer GH guitars. The Drums are standard fare, similar to the rock band 2 counterparts, but it feels like the pads are much more durable, my old rock band 2 pads used to bubble up, but not the case with these! Lastly, the mic is pretty light but definitely feels more sensitive when it comes to picking up my lows in comparison to the old mics.

The most awesome thing is that if you have your old wireless instruments, and you purchase the wireless adapter, you can use those too if you don't want to shell out the cash for new instruments! Crazy how they were able to bring life to the older instruments on the new consoles.

As an expert guitar player, I felt like I hit my plateau, I've seen and done everything that there is. Then, I tried out Freestyle solos for the first time, literally blew my mind. Finally, the solo buttons on my guitar have a reason to be there! Shredding to the preset tones in a song and improvising what sounds great, plastic guitar can't get more real than this. It scratches that creativity itch that we all have, trying to break from the norm. Now, I can't say that it works well with all the songs (with heavier songs, I tend to turn it off since it affects the mood of the song). But this is game changing. Sure, it kind of cuts out the difficulty in a lot of songs, but it is totally optional!

The other highlight of the game is it's show mode, where you are able to start off with an initial song, then to create a playlist, the game dishes out 4 choices to you, randomly giving you songs or even categories to choose from. As a person with a lot of DLC, this mode is a great change of pace, to not be overwhelmed with so many options, or even the burden of picking a song for everyone else. It's too bad your scores will not save in this mode, but hopefully this would be updated in the future.

Speaking about DLC, the commitment Harmonix has made about bringing over every song from the previous generation of consoles, as well as your purchases is on another level. I was able to redownload over 700 of my songs that I previously purchased on the xbox 360, with more DLC to come weekly!

The In game setlist is pretty important, and we have a bunch of heavy hitters like Van Halen and U2. The more and more I play through the set list makes me realize what a unique set of songs that I wouldn't have ever discovered otherwise. That's what I like most about these games, finding new music, and Rock Band 4 does not disappoint. My Favorite on disc song would definitely be Light Up the Night by the Protomen.

Now to get the nitty gritty out of the way, there is no online right now. Also currently no practice mode. But Harmonix has said multiple times, that Rock Band 4 is a platform they will be building upon, you are not going to see a rock band 5! That means we are going to be seeing patches that will continue to update the game with new features! The first feature pack is coming in december.

Rock Band is back, and it's better than ever.

Expand

Rock Band 4 is made for two audiences and it succeeds only a little bit. The gameplay is a lot better, but the features are definitely worse. Making this game backwards compatible is a nightmare, but as long as you just play the new stuff, you will have a good time with Rock Band 4.

Despite its lack of big upgrades and unsatisfying track list, this is still a blast to play with friends. If video games intend, in part, to deliver fantasy, then Rock Band is, once again, a resounding success. You play this game, you feel like a rock star. It’s that simple.
