    Rival Megagun is a tight, accessible, and well-executed game that offers plenty of incentive to return, improve and master its play. This is a gem of a title, and one not be missed by fans of bullet-hell games, or shmups in general.

    Anyone looking for a fun time with friends or a new breed of arcade shooter should pick up Rival Megagun and any fan of game music should definitely listen to Dominic Ninmark’s soundtrack. Stellar work all around.

    Rival Megagun manages to bring something new to the table; a rare thing in this day and age. Adding PvP to a shmup is a bold move, but it’s one that works very well and beating a real person gives a buzz that is quite addictive.

    Rival Megagun is a rough diamond, a proof of concept that screams to be more worked, developed, and polished, but at the same time has incredibly solid core mechanics.

    Rival Megagun is fun shoot em up title which focuses on the PvP aspect and not on the PvE aspect. This is fun for a while, with different characters and powers, but it can get a bit boring after a while.

    Rival Megagun’s competitive spin on the shmup formula is a bold move indeed, and although it pays off for the most part, the game is not entirely without fault. I take issue with the game’s lack of depth, its desolate online component, and its inconsistent damage detection. That said, its aggressively fun concept, its thrilling local multiplayer, and its decent character selection, collectively makes this a fairly worthwhile shoot ’em up.

    There is a decent amount of content within the game and the best thing is that the content has plenty of variety which means the replayThere is a decent amount of content within the game and the best thing is that the content has plenty of variety which means the replay ability is quite high. I was pleasantly surprised to see an online multiplayer option included and I’m pleased to say that the online offerings hold up well.
    The presentation side of the game does a good job of creating an atmosphere and both the visuals and sound design do enhance the gameplay somewhat. I liked the idea of being able to hurt the player I’m playing against as well as shooting the enemies I have to face because it does make the game unique. Unfortunately the single player offering lacks in terms of being challenging which in turn did make things become a little tedious quite quickly. Matches against other players go on far too long at times which does make you lose a little bit of interest. The enemies you face in the game are a little bit on the basic side and not many enemies stand out because of this. The SHMUP genre is a genre that has stood the test of time thus making it one of my favorite genre’s ever. There’s been a wide range of classics over the year’s but that still doesn’t stop me from looking forward to a new release. The new release in question is called Rival Megagun and whilst it’s not the best shoot-’em-up I’ve ever played before it still delivers a ton of fun and enjoyable moments. These fun and enjoyable moments are mainly delivered when playing against somebody and in a way playing the game this way does give the game some uniqueness. You can also play the game on your own as well but I found it to be very repetetive this way and I don’t think the gameplay truly shines when playing the game this way either. In terms of content the game has a surprisingly decent amount for you to get to grips with and the added bonus of an online component means that the game does have a fair bit of replaybility present as well. At the end of the day then even though the game isn’t great when played in single player due to the lack of variety present in the enemies I still really enjoyed my time with the game because it gets the most important aspects spot on and most important of all the fun factor is very high when you play with friends.    … Full Review »
