  • Summary: RemiLore is a “rogue-lite” anime-style adventure set in a colorful fantasy world. Features single-player story mode, two-player co-op mode, 200+ weapons, upgradable spells, procedurally-generated levels, loads of unlockables and more.

RemiLore: Lost Girl in the Lands of Lore on Xbox One may well surprise you. What I expected to be a shallow experience turned out to be a rather deep one, and between the actually gripping story and characters, to the intense fun of the combat, there is a lot to come back to here.

If you don’t mind grinding through to unlock everything, then it’s a pretty enjoyable experience. If you’re an achievement hunter you will probably like how you must obtain everything in order to get all of them. This is especially true with beating the game while only using a specific type of weapon. It encourages you to do everything possible in the game. However, if you don’t like replaying things numerous times, then it will be a short experience with a “that wasn’t worth it” feeling. The biggest sting here is the price tag which, unless you fall in love with the combat system, may lead you to feel dissatisfied with your purchase.

RemiLore clearly has some heart. The problem, unfortunately, is that its execution seems to be all over the place. I found myself almost constantly questioning the game’s many systems rather than enjoying them, simply due the fact that they don’t feel very unified overall. Still, I’ll credit the game for its tight combat, its accessibility, its healthy serving of modes, and its lush visuals, but even so, it’s not worth its rather steep and greedy asking price.

RemiLore features some replay ability thanks to the un-lockable items/weapons, which might I add are all fun and rewarding to experience.RemiLore features some replay ability thanks to the un-lockable items/weapons, which might I add are all fun and rewarding to experience. RemiLore: Lost Girl in the Lands has similarities to that of Diablo when it comes to its gameplay but it can’t be compared to it, because it doesn’t have as much depth. Despite the lack of depth it's actually overall well done with a pleasing art style and decent sound design that pulls you in. There’s also a decent story that immerses you even further. I enjoyed the characters in the game, as they all felt important and not just filler for the story. I do wish the game was a little longer because the ending failed to pack the punch I was waiting for, so it left it feeling unfinished in some strange way. The gameplay provides a few different mechanics you have to learn along the way and they’ve been executed well. You also have the chance to obtain a huge amount of unlockables and weapons during your play thru, which does give the game some sense of replay ability. It does though get repetetive though, and if you could level/customize your character more and had the enemies were more varied, this wouldn’t have been as much of an issue. Despite all that RemiLore: Lost Girl in the Lands definitely gets more right than it gets wrong and it also has the added bonus of being easy to pick up and play, without becoming too overbearing and in the end it does enough to get a thumbs up from me. The price point is a little steep in my opinion, so you may want to snag it at the 1st change of a sale. Expand
