    A very promising game, with great art style and a captivating asymmetric multiplayer gameplay. Our only reserve is about the game's variety: the 5 maps available with the free Prologue and the first campaign episode aren't enough to keep gamers playing over and over, so a constant release of new episodes, even after the first season, will be very important.

    Raiders of the Broken Planet is an unique experience. Yes, it looks like a comic and also like a Japanese version of Gears of War, but the gameplay is totally different. It's a third person shooter, but also a brawler and a tactical shooter. It's a co-op game for four player, but also a competitive game. The most important thing is the antagonist, an enemy controlled by another human for an 4v1 narrative multiplayer.

    This a fresh third-person shooter with asymmetrical multiplayer and a cast of characters that's hard not to love. Even if its servers are basically empty and it includes microtransactions that belong in a free-to-play game.

    Raiders of the Broken Planet is interesting, and is going to be a good game when it'll be completed. But by now, there's not enough content and the matchmaking isn't good.

    There’s a ton of potential in Raiders of the Broken Planet, but it feels like a game that shouldn’t have been released without more QA testing and all of the campaigns available. There’s only so many times you can repeat the same four missions, eight if you buy the Wardog Fury DLC, unless you’re a true glutton for punishment or simply have an obscene amount of time to wait for matches to be found. Sadly, potential doesn’t equate to an enjoyable experience, as the game in its current state, even with the second campaign DLC, is nearly void of this completely.

    There are a vast number of improvements needed before the game could be considered worth playing on a regular basis, but with the right creative direction and some key changes to some major aspects of the game could indeed see it become a great title – eventually.

    MercurySteam promises Raiders is a living platform that will look very different a year from now. Thankfully, that means a lot of these issues could disappear by then. Nothing the game does wrong, outside of its characters and story, is irreversible. If you like third-person shooters it's worth grabbing a team and trying out the free prologue for yourself. Just be aware that there are parts of this game more broken than the planet on which it's set.

    I must admit that Raiders of the Broken Planet has had me intrigued for quite a while, so I was eager to get to grips with it. Thankfully the game is pretty good, and whilst it may have a few problems I can see the game getting better and better over the coming months. The shooting mechanics in the game feel great, and they have got the right balance between being fun and challenging. The combat in the game has also been done well, and the brutal moves you can pull off really do a great job of being satisfying. If you’re playing on your own then you will unfortunately feel at times that it’s unfair, and that’s because most of the enemies are too overpowered when you’re playing in solo. The game is however very good when playing with friends, and it would have been even better if it didn’t suffer with some matchmaking issues. The game has a nice bit of variety going for it especially when it comes to the characters and abilities. Each character feels very different and you can tell a lot of effort has gone into making them. The presentation side of the game is something I really enjoyed. Visually the game has a nice dark appeal going for it and for me it enhances the gameplay somewhat. The sound design has also been done really well, and while it may be basic at times it does more than enough to satisfy you. At the end of the day Raiders of the Broken Planet is on the right track, and I’m interested to see how they implement more DLC. The base game is free, but there isn’t enough content to keep you occupied so you will need to purchase the other packs to get the full benefit of the game. I do however recommend you to purchase this because if you look past the few problems then you will find a fun and enjoyable game.… Full Review »

The first satisfaction in this game are the graphics and arts, from the character design to the soundtrack it’s always a pleasure experiencing what you see on screen, it’s quite evident from the very beginning that the art style of the game makes a very strong appeal, even having a gameplay that lets the characters' design shine amid all the action, unlike many games of this style where the characters and art ingeneral are obfuscated in a chaotic display of movement and special effects when fights have place; and that's amazing; but the gameplay doesn’t lack some important issues.

    The gameplay feels very unique (as much as it can be among the ton of shooters there are in the industry) the game consists in going through missions with different sections, each with different objectives and a challenging enemy system that features minions and one player antagonist (sometimes with an unfair lvl difference) although it may be improved in a few matters. The shooting mechanics are right on point, but in other aspects the mechanics feels kinda clunky; especially for newcomers.

    The melee combat uses a mechanic of rock/paper/scissors that gives space to reaction according to incoming attacks, making the fights systematic so players can manage their actions in a favorable way or else get punished if they choose wrong; but chaining actions is something that should be more fluent, when trying to maneuver between your options (punch/grapple/dodge) your character feels heavy and clumsy.

    Running through the maps feels slow (painfully slow when you play a heavy/slow character), the characters can sprint but there’s not really much difference in the speed and turning in any direction or jumping stops the sprint. We could use a little boost to the basic movement/sprint speed of the characters. A good thing is that the movement from cover to cover, and aiming as you take cover is executed in a very convenient way.

    I expect the game to get different game modes in the future, other than “adventure” which has a good variety of stages, but these are part of a story arc where there are cinematics that are… yeah very cool to watch, but not over and over as you play several matches.

    The game is not very beginner-friendly, whit a prologue tutorial that won’t teach you everything you want or need to know, objective descriptions that are not helpful enough; target signs that are not very intuitive to follow, and an interface that even being simple and well-drawn lacks explanation in many details. Nevertheless, the learning curve of all these topics is really quick so that kinda makes up for it.

    That being said, you can grasp the game's play style at a good pace and after getting used to the rythm you can actually get used to its current mechanics and have fun!
    So that’s my opinion for this game, some other technical flaws are matchmaking and time to find a match.

    Also, it is disgusting that when you first enter the game’s interface it sends you a message saying that you don’t need to pay to unlock all the content of the game… but there’s a catch (the disgusting part), you may only unlock the missions temporarily (2 hours) after grinding gold in a LOT of matches.

    PD: Have in mind that the game and its production company are relatively new (compared to others that have been running for several years). I just strated playing it but from what i've read about it it's been making a lot of improvements since it came out and from my short experience playing it it's in a decent state at the moment, i guess with even more improvements to come.    … Full Review »
