Based on Ryans World, a YouTube Children's Show, Race with Ryan is a standard Kart Racer fitted with characters and concepts from the YouTube show. The game does not yield a huge variety of content, with several characters from the show, and a variety of Karts to chose from, all of these choices are purely cosmetic and do not change the gameplay at all. The game features 6 Tracks, and their "Reverse" option, some of which have to be unlocked. These reverse levels are truly such, as some of the obstacles that would move towards you on the track, move away from you in their reverse form, essentially making these track easier. As a fan of Kart Racers, these things all come as somewhat of a disappointment, but remember this is designed with children in mind, some of which may be new to gaming entirely! This being said, there are two features to help younger players to be able to focus on certain aspects of the game and be introduced to combining everything together gradually. There is a steering, and acceleration assist mode that can be toggled in the pause menu. These features can help younger players a lot by taking their focus away from one or more aspects of racing, allowing them to focus on one at a time. Neither of these features can drift for the player, and allow the input to be "overwritten" so kids can learn to play gradually. This is a great game for children just learning to play, and Fans of Ryans World on the Xbox One family of consoles. Expand

I were dared to 100% this game, meaning I would have to get every achievement in the game, which there were 23. I were skeptical that I would enjoy the game, but for my surprise the map designs were actually pretty nice to look at. The controls and weapons were nowhere near as good as they would be for other racing games, like Mario kart or Sonic racing. Despite this, the love that the map design team had given to this game, made it enjoyable. But a problem arose after I reached the second cup. In order to get every achievement, you need to play every cup on easy, normal and hard. You can't play them on hard and get easy and normal in the process. So after playing every map in the 1st cup for 9 times, I went to the next cup. Only to realize that it had 2 of the same maps as the 1st cup but backwards. And for my horror i realized that the game only had 6 different maps and 6 cups. So in order to get all the achievements, I had to play those 6 levels for over 60 times. At which point, even if I did like the map designs very much, I started to lose my mind. Ryan pops out from the bottom of the screen to yell stuff for literally anything that does/doesn't happen, which does not help with the sanity problem.

I did 100% the game in the end, and honestly, I have no doubt that your child would enjoy the game, especially if they are a fan of Ryan's. The game play is mediocre at best, but due to the design of the maps, I have to give the game a higher score.

I don't think the game is worth the 30€, but luckily it was on Xbox game pass.

TLDR: Very good map design, mediocre game play, prepare to lose your sanity if you want to 100% the game.

If I was to score the game solely on my experience and comparing it to others in the genre, it would have received a much lower score for its lack of track variety and dull gameplay overall, but I’m not basing this on my experience; I’m basing it on my daughter’s, who now gets to play a video game as one of her favorite YouTube stars. If your youngster is a Ryan’s World fan, they’ll certainly enjoy this youth friendly outing with Ryan and all his friends for a few laps around the track, even if it can’t hold a flame to classics in the same genre.

As a game, its handling and level design redeem it, but the lack of track variety and the disappointing amount of content make it poor value for money.

Race with Ryan on the Xbox One has some solid arcade style driving that is worth a look at, for both fans of the YouTube channel and those looking for more kart racing. Sadly, the presentation is a bit lacking with some voice recordings sounding worse than an amateur podcast.
