Should you like games that are – forgive the overused expression – easy to play but hard to master, then you’ll find Pumped BMX Pro is a game worth giving a crack.

The result is unfortunately that nothing ends up working very well directly. This title is in no way capable of competing with games like Trials in the technical aspect, it does not even reach its own point, to the point that it is not a simple and fun trick game either. Even if you manage to get the beat all the best you can expect in a circuit and chain one trick after another, everything keeps getting a little more boring. Why limit yourself to 2 backflips when you can do a 720 Can Can landing in manual? Pumped BMX Pro limits you and you should really commit to one style of game or another, the current combination is simply not the right one, the only thing you get is to throw stones on your own roof.

Pumped BMX Pro is a fun BMX platformer - when it wants to be. But, on the Xbox version anyway, the right-stick for tricks is a temperamental control that only sometimes performs the tricks, despite being held in the correct direction. Plus, the "pump" system is extremely specific with when to use it, and Pumped BMX Pro takes no prisoners in miss-timed presses that will basically cause the rider to fail the stage. But once these kinks are worked out, this is definitely a BMX title worth checking out for those who don't want to invest in a heavy sim-based game, and opt for the more arcade-styled versions instead.

Pumped BMX Pro is a decent game with loads of tricks to keep you occupied but the precision of the jumps and the steep learning curve can be quite off putting.

Getting good at Pumped BMX Pro is like mastering the cup-and-ball; even when you do it, you still kind of look like a dumbass.

In terms of content there is a decent amount for you to play with and it has enough of a challenge to keep you coming back for more. Technically Pumped BMX Pro is pretty sound for the most part and I didn’t really bump into many problems during my time with the game, other than the odd control set-up remaining from the 1st game. There is a decent amount of variety present when it comes to the levels and this does keep things fresh and interesting for longer. I found the difficulty to be a little too much at times due to the control setup and this did make me become frustrated a bit. The physics sometimes don’t feel as realistic as they should and this does mean the controls suffer at times because of that, sometimes I would skyrocket over a jump others seemed to be perfect jumps and would fall short of the next obstacle. Sometimes the game is a little too basic for its own good and this means that the game doesn’t stand out as much as it could. It’s been a while now since Pumped BMX + released, but I must admit that despite its age I have returned back to that said game a few times for some fun. As you can imagine then I had quite a lot of interest in the new release Pumped BMX Pro and despite suffering with a few shortcomings It did bring along the fun factor as well. The gameplay follows the Trials series in a way and I’m pleased to say that technically it holds up really well for the most part (I'm a huge trials fan btw). The physics though don’t always feel realistic and this can make the controls feel a little fiddly and not as responsive as they should. This then makes the difficulty even more of a problem at times and that’s not a good thing either because the difficulty can be very problematic for me mainly due to odd feeling controls and my mind still has the RT engrained as acceleration. This however didn’t stop me from returning back to the game though and I’m pleased I did because the content has a decent amount of variety with plenty of levels to tackle. I also enjoyed the presentation side of the game as well because both the visuals and sound design have been done pretty well. At the end of the day then Pumped BMX Pro is one of them games that’s perfect for passing a bit of time every now and then and it does enough to get a recommendation from me. I can't fault it for the controls just because they felt odd for me. Thumbs up! Full Review »

Thank God I had the Game Pass membership when I played this in order to do the achievement hunt for Microsoft Rewards. But trying to get achievements for this game? Good luck, Charlie. It is downright impossible! In fact, it's so impossible that I'd rather play Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 while being shot at by bank robbers! It is downright unplayable with the control schemes and the awful side-scrolling. Side-scrolling is meant for Mario or Sonic, not an extreme sports game! This game gets the death penalty for bad controls, impossible missions and for throwing my time in the trash! Full Review »
