    The game starts off a tad challenging as you are equipped with a wand I guess you'd call it. Also a knife and a Axe. Each weapon slot holds two weapons you have to hit a button to swap between them. I'll get it out of the way the weapon wheel is my only gripe with this entire game. At times especially in action it can be a hassle to work your way around. There is 38 weapons in all so you can only imagine how hard this wheel can be to use at times. I love all the different types of weapons though. Selecting them though is just a bit clunky. Good thing I love the Axe so much and Shotgun. I mostly just cycle between those two. I love how the weapons sound. It really sounds nice blasting your way through levels. All of the weapons can also be upgraded with stars you find along the way. Like my favorite is the "BloodThirsty" the Axe absorbs enemy energy and puts it into you. This can be real handy in certain situations. I really feel i used this most of the game. Each weapon has it's own bullet type you must find along the way. You can also find magic and energy vials to fill your health and Magic bars. The magics are found a long the way as well. All of these are upgraded at the Workshop you go to between missions. You can also upgrade your characters health, spirit, capacity, and more there as well. You gain this XP by picking up gold and jewels along the way. Some even hidden in secret rooms. Each Level has some of these loaded with stuff to aid in your journey.
    There are 5 different stages, but each stage has a certain amount of levels. There are 60 different levels in total. Each stage is so different than the others. You go from Castles, to Sewers, the Arctics, Deserts, and so much more. The thing about each of these they also have unique enemies as well. It never feels repetitive, and you just can't wait to see what surprises await you. each stage has a unique and super challenging boss fight. I highly recommend starting this on easy , because you have unlimited continues to learn the game with. I think the harder levels you only get like three men, and have to start all over. These bosses will kick your ass on easy, so I can't imagine starting them difficult and playing it over and over again from scratch. Each level has colored keys that open certain doors. Red, Blue, and Gold to be exact. You know you have found the end of a level when you come to a monster door that shoots fire at you. So even if you clear a level, and make it to the end you have to be cautious exiting the level as well.
    I said earlier it sounds nice blasting your way through the levels. that isn't the only nice sound along the way though. Project Warlock has 62 unique musical tracks that will blow your mind. They will hype you up so much, and really give it that 90's FPS feel. These songs are excellent, and really took me back to Quake, and Trent Reznor's music just rocking you all the way through. The music for "Project Warlock" does the same. It is such an epic soundtrack that really just adds to this nearly perfect experience. This game really was going to get a 10 from me. It blew my mind and surprised me so much. I never expected this type quality, with such an affordable price tag. Hopefully they can smooth out that weapons wheel. It's really the only thing holding this back from being the perfect modern retro FPS. I think it is without question the best this Gen. It does and has everything you loved about those classics. I can't wait to see more from this kid, he is a true future face in game development. i see a lot great things from him in the future.    … Expand

    Project Warlock is a Retro First-Person-Shooter. Hailing back to the style of the Godfathers of the genre, Project Warlock is displayed in gloriously produced sprite based pixel art. There are also a good variety in environment and enemies, you never feel like your blasting away at the same nasty critters the whole time. Each enemy brings its own tactics, and the larger enemies even lose parts to damage. The game is well mapped even though you're always on a flat level plane it never detracts from the exploration. This game is a near perfect storm, giving a subtle nod to all the greats before it, and leaving its own footprints in the path. One of the most impressive aspects Is the game was entirely programed by Jakub Cislo who was 18 and in High-School at the time, as it was originally on PC in 2018. This is not a game to pass up if you enjoyed any of the games that inspired this game. Project Warlock is a must have homage to some of the greatest aspects of the genre.… Expand

    And that's just a short review, not all parts of the game, and it's just a summary.
    You can easily use the phrase "Where is the story" for this game. Not only does the game not have an interesting story, but it also has a very illogical and superficial story.
    But the good thing is that the gameplay is smooth and exemplary.

    I absolutely love this game! The fact that it was made by one guy when he was 18 is stunning to me. I can't wait for what he does next. The game is challenging and fun to play. It lets you learn what to do by repeated deaths, at least for me, I died a lot but I never stopped having fun and just wanted to figure out what I was doing wrong and this game rewards you for that. It is jamI absolutely love this game! The fact that it was made by one guy when he was 18 is stunning to me. I can't wait for what he does next. The game is challenging and fun to play. It lets you learn what to do by repeated deaths, at least for me, I died a lot but I never stopped having fun and just wanted to figure out what I was doing wrong and this game rewards you for that. It is jam packed with secrets and Easter eggs and the levels are plentiful and every one is fun to play. The bosses were challenging for me but I made it through all of them, again with many deaths and you must beat all bosses through all phases to move on, no saves in the middle of a boss fight.     A retro FPS in the same style as classics such as Blood, Shadow Warrior, with gameplay similar to Serious Sam. From the score I've given you might think I dislike this game, but I don't. it's not a bad game really, and if you're a fan of this subgenre of FPS, and I am, there's fun to be had here. I'm giving it a lowish score because it's sloppy and isn't a good example of the genre. If you told me a single person made the entire game, I would believe you, because it was made with the minimum amount of effort. Most things about it are subpar, and pretty much every other retro FPS game I've played is better.

    The physics in this game are bad. If you fire a weapon and have a clear line of sight to the enemy, often the shot will get blocked. If you throw a grenade, there's a good chance it will get caught on some invisible hit box and blow up in your face. The enemies have poor AI, and all pretty much fight the same. As soon as they have line of sight, they run directly at you, occasionally stopping to fire a long ranged attack. The only real difference is the amount of hit points they have, and the combat quickly becomes repetitive. The original Doom had better enemy AI.

    The levels look ok. I appreciate that each of the 5 episodes had different textures for everything.
    The level design itself is perfunctory, and there's nothing inspired here. This is the bare minimum to create something that qualifies as a level. Enemies can't be above or below you, and there is almost no Z-axis to speak of other than when players go up or down an elevator to a new section of the level. The original Doom had more sophisticated level design. The difficulty is all over the place. Most of the game is pretty easy, except for the ridiculous final boss, which feels like a "screw you" to the players. The weapon balance is also all over the place. With some weapons being near useless, and some being crazy overpowered. I encountered a serious bug early on that required me to reload the level. This is a lazy game, and would have greatly benefitted if everyone had tried a little harder. I can only recommend this to someone who loves retro FPS. I'm saying you should play the original Doom instead.    … Expand

    The game was pretty good for the first 98 percent of it but the final boss was so poorly made that the frame rate dropped to a slideshow due to the worst enemy spam I've ever seen in 20+ years of gaming. The final boss has at least 5 phases and took 40 minutes to whittle away health and near the end of it the frame rate drops to single digits and you're out of ammo because this thing takes THOUSANDS of bullets to kill and by that point life is too short to waste any more time with this nonsense.    … Expand

    This game is meant to be a retro type game with elements of Doom and Duke Nukem 3D, in terms of story the game is a 2/10. But other than the story the game is easily an 8/10 from the number of guns and the number and variety of enemies

    Project Warlock is an interesting blend of nostalgia and modern but works quite well overall, save for a few minor issues. I can appreciate someone loving a genre so much that they want to create their own take on it, but it’s even better when they succeed, like they have here. It certainly won’t be for everyone, but for those like myself that grew up on 2.5D games like these, I came away more than impressed.

    Project Warlock isn’t going to set the world on fire, but what it sets out to do it does well. I found myself loving certain sections while struggling with others. With a few tweaks it could easily become a fan-favorite title that scratches that itch so many other games attempt and fail at.
