Overall this is an excellent game. I fear that it will be lost on a lot of people however because they will cry and whine that they can't add rims and turbos to their cars...

This is NOT a fast and furious style game where you collect and customize cars, that is not what this game is about. Personally I love horizon 2 and gta but this game is different, it is focused purely on racing and it does a great job.

This is a PURE racing game where all tracks and cars are unlocked from the start. It reminds me a lot of PC racing games. You can configure everything to your liking, there is a ton of options! Hell the xbox one version even has some basic graphics setting options!

You can play career, quick race and online race. So far ive been playing through career and you start off racing go karts (like in real life) and gradually if you do well you will be invited to championship events and to sign new contracts for more powerful car classes.

So far ive kept opponent AI at the default setting, and the game is difficult! I mean really difficult like I spent 2 hours on one race last night. You have to drive perfectly, one slip up and the race is basically over as you will spin out and end up in last place. I kept restarting the race over and over till i finally nailed it....the game play is immersive and challenging and im loving it.

Graphics are good, not quite as good as Forza 5, but there are weather conditions and day/night time to figure into that.

Sound is excellent, especially using a headset.

The only downsides so far are a few bugs here and there but im sure these will be sorted. Also while there are loads of tracks, there are simply not enough cars, but again im hoping they add more soon.

In conclusion this is a great racing sim and you get a lot for your money. Once again I fear for the success of this game and hope it doesn't get ruined by the usual cry babies and trolls. Collapse

This game has graphics but thats all, the most use out of this game is to test cars because it has no solid leveling or rewarding system. I fear all the ideas that should be in project cars will be put in the sequel that has been shockingly announced 2 months after release. But I will not buy that game either because my money has already been waisted on this game filled with bugs and limited content. If you just want to test cars and spend time complaining about missing features then project cars is for you, but I expect a more enjoyable experience at full price. Expand

Project cars was a big disappointment.
The game looks good, has a wide variety of cars, and excellent tracks. The menu system is easy to navigate and the career mode layout is a very innovative idea in this genre.

None of this can make up for a game that feels incomplete and rushed. I have never played a game so plagued with game crashing bugs (this coming from a fan of the fallout series). I have also never played a game with such poorly calibrated controls as to make playing with a game pad infuriating. While there are a multitude of options to re-calibrate yourself, it ends up feeling like they didn't have the time to do it themselves. I can't speak to the steering wheel, I suspect this game feels much better using one.
And finally, the feel. This is the most disconnected I have felt in a simulator, with the sound and vibration communicating very poorly what the tires are doing.

There may be a good game here, but it's not to be found with a regular controller and it's not to be found without learning the intricacies of calibrating, and even if you get those sorted out it will still crash.

To put it simple, I wasn't happy about this game. The steering is unrealistic and I stopped after racing 3 tracks as I just was that disappointed so basically the 4/10 I am giving this game is for its nice graphics and layouts....and I guess you get to drive go karts but even they are just not right.

I like this game a lot, it's the best simulation out there, PC/PS4/XB1, doesn't matter. If you happen to play with a wheel you won't be affected by the biggest problem here: The controls. Something is just off there. There are weird counter steer lockups, oversensitivity and lots of other things that make this game close to unplayable with a controller. This is obviously something that can be corrected. But I guess that must happen quickly, as many people are already writing it off. Apart from the handling issues there's a ton of graphical things that don't work well. Frame rate drops, really ugly screen tearing and an overall mediocre graphic that feels kind of artificial. Nothing compared to Drive Club or Forza. There's a ton of bugs in this game, including lap times not being counted, full system crashes that will reset your console, weird things happening in the races, the ominous snow flakes on the tracks and the AI is really nasty and behaves quite "unprofessional". It's more like the AI of an arcade game. But, if only the handling and the stability were to be addressed (quickly), then I'd say this is already a solid 7/10. If the other bugs, the AI etc. were ironed out, then this would be at least an 8/10. I really hope we'll see Patch Adams dropping by soon. By the way - PS4 and PC versions seem to be fine, so if you got a chance to get these - do it! Expand

Just completely unplayable. If I could I would get my money back. The controls are worthless, the tracks are either insanely grippy or like on ice. The car models are nothing to write home about, and the sound just does what it wants to with no relation to what is on the screen.

The short answer is no! The longer answer is,no because it's broken.. further, further more I recommend you only drive a car like this, if you like a challenge.
I will end with a double edged sword, the graphics are pretty sweet, the screen tearing and frame rates dropping through the floor on every corner with more than 3 cars on ain't so sweet. Very realistic as real life often drops to around 15fps too......top tip, drop the amount of cars in solo to about 5 or 7 and everything works better, shame you can't drop the amount of cars in career mode.....

I've been playing every type of driving game there is from the arcade delights of Ridge Racer to the full on punishing sim challenges of games like Richard Burns Rally for 20 years now, and i have to say this is probably one of the worst driving games i have ever played, mainly down to its head developers' attitude...i'll get into that soon.
    On to the review:
I pre ordered this game and got it on day one, since then it has been unplayable for me since.
The first couple of weeks there was the infamous controller steering bug which made all the cars undrivable, that was fixed but everything else since then has not.
The game is still a stuttery, ugly, buggy mess but dont you dare bring this up on the forums as Mr Bellend's minions will ban you for expressing your disappointment and disgust about how you've paid them £40 for a game that isn't even playable enough to be called a beta!
Here's a few more details with whats wrong with the game:
Frame rate: The developer promised a smooth 60 fps before launch, what we actually has is a game that rarely ever reaches that goal, unless of course you are the only car on track and the weather on said track is perfect.
But wait this game was advertised as a bumper to bumper racer with 30+ cars on track and dynamic weather?
Yes, technically it has those features but the second you turn them on the frame rate, which was supposed to stay at 60 remember, tanks and never reaches 60, or can even come close!
With other cars on track expect the frame rate to fluctuate from mid 50's (note, not 60) all the way down to low 40s!
Some people have even reported worse performance, with frame rates so bad the game looked like a slide show.
There's nothing better in a hardcore simulation racer than an inconsistent frame rate to mess up your timing while trying to drive at 200mph!
    Next up: Screen tearing.
Yes folks not only does the frame rate jump up and down (usually down) more often than child on a trampoline after downing a whole crate of energy drinks, but the screen tearing in this game is appalling also.
For me the combination of the terrible frame rate AND constant screen tearing make the image displayed on the tv a very unappealing one, for some people it even gives them headaches and makes their eyes hurt.
For me its a matter of principal, you dont promise 60 fps and then deliver anything between 40 to 50.
Unacceptable plus like i mentioned before it ruins the sensation of speed and the immersion which (according to the devs) is what this game is all about and why it is "second to none" (that's the developers' attitude and claims not mine).
The AI is broken: To keep things short if you are driving and it starts raining the AI wont be affected by the loss of grip even though they still have slicks on, making it impossible for you to compete even if you change your tyres over to wets.
Other bugs include graphical glitches, there was a bug that would cause the steering of your car to suddenly lock in the opposite direction for no reason, causing you to crash (and dont forget theres no rewind function here), hell if you go into the pits during an endurance race your pit crew will fit flat tyres ruining all the time you have invested!!! There are major sound bugs in the game, and bugs that can ruin your career mode causing you to have to restart or re-install the game. There are many many more issues but too many to list here.
Now onto the worst part of all this: The developers' attitude towards its playerbase:
Head of studio Ian Bell constantly degrades and bullies anyone who brings up issues they have with the game on the forum, the most legitimate complaint will be met with hostility and hate by the forums mods and head developer Ian Bell himself, even going so far as telling people to "go away" or to "shut up and grow up." He even said to me in response to my asking him when and if the game will ever be fixed "calm down we are making video games not curing cancer", what sort of a response and customer service is that? I then got banned immediately after for calling the infallible, immune to criticism Mr Bellend out on his shoddy attitude.
I then went to amazon and got an immediate refund for the game (in full i might add) as i refuse to be treated like **** after i have paid full price to someone for a product that is unplayable nearly two months after launch by some scumbag who thinks he is holier than thou now that he has my money.
The cut off period at amazon for a full refund had come and gone long ago but i talked to someone at customer services and they gave me a full refund anyway with now quarrels so if yours says the same dont be afraid to just ask someone directly. I think they know this game is utter broken garbage so they are being more lenient with their refunds policy. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!!!!!

This is seen when attempting to warm tyres up (which takes forever and doesn't work) as they'll ram you. If you leave the track your lap time is deleted,, if your it at the end of a lap the next is deleted also which isn't very realistic and is very infuriating. I get that it's a sim but surely the fact you've slowed yourself down is punishment enough? There are options for newcomers to play, but the game does little to encourage them to join as no matter what it's either hard or hard. At least Forza caters to different needs.
The game, when it works, can be fantastic. The cars are good fun to drive and the circuits are good too. Weather patterns are quite interesting and change racing up a bit, especially heavy fog and rain.
I would however not recommend this game to anyone, at least not yet. If the upcoming patch makes the game work and fixed the stupid controller issues then the game is a winner and an easy 8/10 but for now it's a disappointing 4/10. Giving up on races because the frame rate drops so low with only 15 cars on track is a joke but it is what I have found myself doing more often than not sadly.

I think its more than enough to say that the fair share of bugs that this game brings, not only makes the game frustating, added to the poor controller support and poor multiplayer mode, but the fact that this game was delayed for 6 months and was tested by expert sim gamers makes it extra insulting for this ridicously shilled racing game.

I can say hand on heart that in all my years playing racing games, sim, arcade and sim-cade, this is THE deepest racing game I have ever played in my life. This is taking into account that the career mode has no strict set path, you can start the career from any motorsport division included in the game that you wish, from karting to touring car racing to GT3 or GT4 racing. Not only that, every race, every win, every loss, everything that occurs in-game effects what the in-game news feed and social blog will say about you as a driver. You will be praised for every win, adored by fans who root for you in forthcoming races, and also evoke disappointment when you lose, or drop out. I have to say that this mechanic alone has successfully engrossed me into the world of motorsport; I feel like every contribution I make effects my personality as a driver, and I try my best to please my adoring fans and my teammates.
Couple that with the tight driving mechanics, and I am fully mesmerised. There aren't too many cars available in the game, about 60 or so, but the compensation for that is so rewarding. Every car is constructed with, IMO one of the most detailed and realistic driving models I have ever experienced. Everything about each car matters, from the tyres they use out on track, weight balance, downforce, suspension etc., if I named everything we'd be here all day. This makes the driving so immersive, and the helmet cam aids to improve the experience.
Graphically, despite some complaints over the graphical quality of the Xbox One version (not limited to such though), I couldn't disagree more. The game allows you to change certain visual aspects of the game, although they don't make any significant impact on the gameplay as a whole, but it's nice that they're there. The game runs at 900p60fps, which is a slight step down from the PS4's 1080p60fps, but trust me, once you get into the game you'll hardly care to tell the difference. Resolution aside, every track and every car looks meticulously detailed, particularly cars that have exposed inner workings such as the engine or suspension underneath the car's panels. Vehicle damage is solid as well, mechanically anyway. Personally I find the visual damage a slight bit underwhelming than what I anticipated, but considering the intricacy of the mechanical damage, coupled with failures that can render your car useless, I can forgive that.
The sound design, as with previous Slightly Mad developments, is crisp and clean, but REALLY loud (seriously, turn down your speakers if you plan on playing this for elongated sessions). There are sounds reused from Shift and Shift 2: Unleashed, but they mainly consist of impact sounds, nothing to criticise too heavily here. Overall, every car sounds like they should (at least I think so, don't quote me on that).
Overall, there's little for me to fault in Project CARS, although of the criticisms I have towards this game, I found that when there's a lot on screen happening, such as rainy weather coupled with a 24 car grid while every car is on the move, the frame rate tends to drop to about 30-20 fps, which can be frustrating. Also, the online portion of the game needs updating. I would criticise the sensitivity of the throttle, but personally I found that it complimented the already tight driving. It punished you for overbearing the throttle, causing serious wheel-spin at a stand-still, much like if you actually over-revved a (powerful) car without the application of the brakes.
Overall, I couldn't recommend this game more, if you're looking for a core simulation experience on consoles. It's not perfect by any means (no game ever is, not even Ocarina of Time) but I could overlook most of the frustrations (Lykan Hypersport is more difficult to drive than it should be though), and let the extremely deep career mode mesmerise me into the intricate world of motorsport.
Sure, not everyone will click with the handling model, but even then, the game as a whole is brilliant in its execution.

Exceeded my expectations, the graphics are beautiful, the is a ton of stuff to customize in options, controls, even graphics (with sadly other developers don't let you choose what things you really want do show). There are some bugs that happen occasionally but not that severe. Full race weekend, full race distances, 30 cars grid, multi class or not... you just don't find these in any other console game. The game has progression in carrer mode if you want, you are free to choose if you start from scratch (Karting) or right into F-1 (F-A) or LMP1, you don't have to buy cars since you are a pro drivers, you run with the cars the teams let available for you.

    A great game but ...
The upside is definitely the amount of competitions, races with simulation features nearing reality. But missing cars, there are few models for many competitions. Also found few race tracks, none in Latin America.
The gameplay is good, but artificial intelligence is weak.
Xbox One what bothered me most was the lack of Pitcrew both production time and the game comes out without such a common item. Continuous rotation of the player's helmet model is also a children's fault.
As for the bugs one is annoying, a sharp drop framerate with influence in audio that happens throughout the race.
There's no way compare with Forza or Forza Horizon, graphically they are different worlds and the proposal of the games is another. The Forzas are playing arcade racing simulation, Project Cars is a racing simulation game that you can play arcade from time to time.
The pleasure of driving is pretty big and the game is quite fun, but for much waiting time could have been more polished.

The Xbox One version of Project Cars isn't a great game like PC version just because their problems, like stuttering, poor frame rate, control issues and other things that can easily fix with patchs. So the game was launched unfinished I think. Besides that it's a game that promise very much.

However it's not all doom and gloom. As mentioned the game looks lovely and the community features of having new TTs every week keeps me coming back. The weather affects are great and the helmet view is actually pretty useful, especially in the open wheel formulas. Whilst playing the game with the controller isn't exactly easy it is doable and rather satisfying once you've got the settings tuned in just right.

Overall it's a game that rewards perseverance, if you spend the time on setting up the controls, the cars and practice it's fun to play. Out of the box though, it's frustrating. Is it a concern for the Forza team? Not yet but, if they continue to build on the core aspects then in time maybe.

the audio is poor some cars sound cool like the ford capri but they really are bad and even sound missing at certain rev ranges.

the multiplayer looks messy i don't believe it will get any better.

lack of cars is a killer the best thing about the game is the track list but its not perfect so much issues with frame rate and screen tearing even just 1 car on azure aka monaco i really noticed it can only imagine how much worse it would be with other cars and weather.

the tuning options for cars is very basic and kinda leave you feeling like your wasting your time.

im lucky that i got my copy for £35 on xbox one on ebay,im going to my local GAME store tomorrow to trade it in towards the witcher 3 i get £30 back + 25% extra towards a new release :).

BUY FORZA 5 so much better in all areas apart from track list or wait for forza 6 latter this year.

It's the first racing game to present fully dynamic day/night cycle, weather, and track (grip changes based on traffic, weather), combined with advanced tire and car physics that not only rival but actually exceet of kinds like Assetto Corsa or even Iracing. Starting from tires that react not only to track tempertures and cool/heat up based on the track tempertures but also by the tempertures of the brakes (that properly simulated by heat and wear) and rims that function as a heatsink, tires age and blister physically if abused, flatspots can lead to punctures and hitting walls or other cars hard causes the tires/suspensition to misalign. Volumetric throttle that is affected by weather/humidity and altitude is just one component of so many that are so highly detailed and simulated that once you grasps and feel the difference it makes when you drive with cars in this simulation at the limit, that it starts to immerse you to a whole nother level.

The amazing graphics and sound vastly help bringing and aiding the immersion and the sense of speed is incredible. Project Cars is very well optimized and runs exceptionally well even on older Nvidia GPU's however AMD GPU drivers still need a lot of work but that is a common problem.

Another highlight of Project Cars are the incredible cars. They are the most detailed and best build cars in any racing game to date. The game is worth a purchase just for the cars and their amazing sounds alone and with the combination of the previously mentioned top-class physics.

The racing tracks, which most are laser scanned, are build with huge attention to detail and passion and easily compete with reference racing tracks from likes of Iracing. Even the ones that are not laser scanned have realistically placed bumps which bring your Forcefeedback to life.

Forcefeedback is another area where Project Car shines and leaves it's compeditors in its digital dust. It's highly adjustable/configureable to tailor anyones preferences and no sign of canned/faked effects but instead full of details that immerses you further to another level. The FFB is class leading beating already great Iracing FFB.

The racing AI is excellent, aggressive but respectful of your car if you respect theirs. Give them room just like in real life, they will give you room as well. Side by side racing is not only very possible with that approach but happens all the time.

The sheer amount of content you get in form of cars and tracks make this a great buy and highly recommendation for any racing/driving game fan! The level of immersion by graphics, sound, physics is something that can't be described by words but HAS to be experienced on your own.

A mild warning, once you go to Project Cars and get fully immersed, you can't really go back to other simulators, it's that GOOD!

    Enjoy racing everyone!

Arrogant mess. don't waste time on this game because I think it is losing much needed support to the sequel (Project cars 2) that has been announced while this game just recently hit the store shelves. I feel tricked into buying a half-baked demo of project cars 2. and to make things worse, they expect us, the buyers to help them figure out the bugs in what is wrong with the game.

There isn't "Credit" or "Money" to spend on new upgrades or rims It's more about learning how to tweak your cars Tire Pressure, Gear Ratios and other settings that let you make your car your own. The graphics in Project Cars are phenomenal, some scenes seem almost real with the amount of detail put into the vehicles or tracks themselves. The crowd still looks like it's from a PS2 Game but you will hardly notice them. The ability to tweak the difficulty the way you want it makes the game much more enjoyable when you are looking for a challenge but still want a chance, you can choose between CPU Difficulty, Driver Assists and other options to help you. Weather effects like Rain look good in Project Cars but I have seen better in other Sim Racers like DriveClub. If you are a fan of Sim Racers you will really enjoy Project Cars with it's lifelike game-play and fairly good car selection but if you a fan of more forgiving arcade racers like Forza or Need for Speed you may not enjoy Project Cars and it's unforgiving handling. I'm a big fan of sim rally racing (Richard Burns Rally, Dirt Rally being the best games I found) and was searching for a similarly-realistic road racing title.

A friend introduced me to iRacing (on PC) a while back. I found it satisfyingly realistic (I think it's still the best you can get) but the monthly payment and paid cars were too much for someone not totally invested in the sport (e.g. living and breathing racing, learning all of the intricacies of tuning specific cars, etc.). Plus I can't play on console, which I prefer for practicality reasons.

I have recently purchased the Game of the Year version of Project CARS and I am quite satisfied! Great physics and graphics, great sound (awesome with good headphones such as Grados), etc. etc. I did not notice any bug. Might have mostly been fixed since the game was released.

While I'm not a sim-racing die-hard, I simply can't play anything that approaches arcade racing games because I find those games extremely unrealistic, causing me to crash everywhere. To me, there's no thrill in arcade driving. Games such as Forza 5, while having incredibly good-looking graphics and presentation, are extremely boring and unsatisfying to me. The physics in Project CARS are *great* so I'm satified. Everything else is accessory to me, but luckily the rest of the game seems polished as well.

I think playing a sim racing game with a controller is contradictory. Someone looking for a racing game with above-average physics to play with a controller should look at the Forza series on Xbox One instead of Project CARS.

I feel Iike this will become my go-to title for road racing from now on. A nice complement to Dirt Rally!

If this "story" calls you, you might really like Project CARS, give it a try! :)

Pretend the game is covered in snow and it is raining permanently and you will get the idea, even with tyres fully warmed up the rear end traction is terrible, sliding across corners at 40 like you were going 140, have not tried with wheel but very poor with controller, surprisingly PC2 is even worse but graphically much nicer, game physics engine is still terrible though.
