PONG Quest surprised me in a good way, as I didn’t believe a game based around PONG could hold my attention for this long. But once I started on the story mode, I felt compelled to play all the way through it. The different ball power-ups are so interesting and make the PONG experience much more fun. With the charming paddle identity’s, it makes for a fun experience. My only concern is that once the adventure is over, I am not sure whether I would revisit the game.

Whilst PONG Quest on the Xbox One sounds like a brilliant idea on paper, fusing PONG gameplay with RPG mechanics, the shallowness of PONG itself unfortunately quickly makes this a dull grind.

You will Dungeon craw you'rePong Quest is a Dungeon Crawler RPG reimagining of the Classic PONG. You play as a Paddle, in the Pong Kingdom. You will Dungeon craw you're way through several procedurally generated dungeons themed around other Atari games, each with four levels ending at a boss. The combat system is where Pong Quest holds true to its roots. Each encounter is played out with a game of Pong, doing the classic table tennis play. There is a twist here, there are over 50 items in the game that change how the ball functions, from making it curve to the closest wall, to causing your paddle to grow larger. Every time you beat an enemy you're rewarded with loot, from a piece of the enormous accessory collection to money you can spend on items, as well as experience. When you gain enough experience you level up, and this gives you the option to choose from one of three permanent upgrades for your paddle. There was the option to add more HP every time I leveled, but there were also several other options that cycled around. HP is a fairly important trait, as you lose 1hp every time you hit the ball back, and 5hp every time it hits your wall. If you get bored with the campaign, there is a multiplayer, classic pong, and online matchmaking for you to play with too! This game is an amazing modernization of the classic Pong formula and can be fun for gamers of any age or expertise. Full Review »
