You are Oratio, you are a Dwarf, and you like to hang-out around the mine with your wife Gwendoline! ( Yeah, mines, what a place at which to spend your time! ) Suddenly, the Devil Johnson spawns from a nearby pit, and kidnaps Gwendoline! It has happened all so quickly but you had enough time to imprint in your mind the Devil's butt-chin!!! Grab a pickaxe and you jump into the pit! It's rescue time!

Even though Pity Pit feels like an authentic retro game, its fun factor only lasts so long as you try to top your previous efforts.

With an old school arcade mentality Pity Pit manages to be good fun in short bursts, but those looking for a more substantial experience might be left wanting here. Achievement hunters will lap it up, but it’s probably not something they’ll come back too once that final one pops.

Pity Pit looks bad, even by the standards of 8-bit looking retro titles, it plays poorly, with no real idea what you are meant to be doing and because you have to put up with dodgy hit detection, it just isn't fun.

You play as the Dwarf Oratio, digging into the depths of the world to save his wife Gwendoline from the Devil Johnson. This game isn't pretty, even by the standards of the 8bit era, but don't let that fool you, then gameplay is different, and kind of addictive. You start with a copper pickaxe and are dropped into a short tutorial. At the bottom of the tutorial you'll come across the menu, I don't know why it's not on the title screen, but here it is. You can turn off and on music, sounds, and rumble. once you drop from there, you'
re at the first level. There are five levels that are generated upon entry from a random palette for the given stage, making every run slightly different. You will encounter the same tilesets several times in a level, but they'll never be in the same order twice. Along the way, you'll find coins and materials as well as hearts. You start the game with 2 hearts, and when you run out of them, your runs over. Also at the end of each stage, you will find the shop and forge, in the shop you can use coins to get more hearts, and your materials to upgrade your gear. Upgraded gear digs through the various blocks faster. A balance between collecting and moving is a must as soon after you start a stage the ceiling begins to collapse in on you. Pity Pit is a fun game, and a different experience.
