    It's not the worst game of the year because it's not broken, it all works fine and there is an interesting concept of a show here, even though we may have trodden these boards before. I found the combat sluggish and uninspiring, and some of the nightmare levels can be very generic compared to other games in these genres. But I think Past Cure is probably worth a punt as long as you can grab it in a sale and fancy trying something a bit unusual.

    Past Cure offers an interesting story, one that’s buried deep underneath a plethora of technical issues and poor execution. Despite a few intriguing moments within, this game is nowhere near as exciting as it makes out to be. It’s over-priced and over-hyped.

    Past Cure is a game that tries to do too much at once to the extent that it ends up doing none of it well. To varying degrees, it lacks polish in every area. Shooting needs some help in the options menu, melee is borderline broken, stealth is missing key features, and the story abandons a strong start and gets worse with every chapter, all while it weaves in and out of several genres and forgets to make it coherent by the end. In one light it's commendable for a rookie studio to aim so high by designing a game akin to Max Payne or Quantum Break, as they obviously intended to do here. Sadly, Phantom 8 seems to have rejected reasonable restraint in their design aspirations, which may have been the cure for what ails this game.

    Past Cure shows a lot of love for specific video games and movies with a huge ambition to emulate them, but the developers fell incredibly short of their target, producing a very troubled game in pretty much every aspect except for the soundtrack.

    Past Cure wants to be something great, and that ambition is the only thing it has on its side. This is a game that is flawed to its core. The mangled story and shoddy design prevent any single aspect from ever sticking out as something special. Don't even risk taking a bargain bin flier on this one. You'll only end up frustrating yourself.

Unfortunately when it came to reviewing the game Past Cure is littered with problems throughout and this without a doubt stifles any enjoyment you might have with the game. Don’t get me wrong it’s not all doom and gloom though because the story that’s present in the game is actually pretty good and they did a very good job of creating a number of different emotions here. Unfortunately the gameplay isn’t as good and it really does lack any fun factor and in the end it just felt like a chore, which is a shame because they do have a few interesting and somewhat unique mechanics in play at times. There are a number of different sections for you to undertake throughout your time with the game and unfortunately these fall short as well. The shooting sections in the game are very drab indeed and they seem to go on forever which limits the game’s appeal somewhat. Unfortunately the puzzle sections of the game don’t do any better and you find them to lack in variety and ultimately this makes them tedious with none of the puzzles really standing out. Another problem I had with the game was the linear level design. Each level basically plays out the same way and at times they don’t make any sense which again makes things a chore. If that wasn’t bad enough the game also suffers with quite a few technichal issues and these issues range from big to small with each one holding the game back even more. Despite the game suffering with quite a few technichal issues I did find myself enjoying the presentation side of the game. Visually the game has nice look to it and I thought the sound design was done very well even if the voice actors didn’t always sound on point. At the end of the day I was pretty disappointed with Past Cure and I must admit that I was expecting a lot more from this game. The biggest problem with Past Cure is that it lacks big time when it comes to the fun factor and when you combine that with the myriad of problems it has you do find it difficult to continue playing. Good story aside there isn’t much that really saves this game and in the end I can’t recommend this game to you, which is a shame.… Full Review »

    The game starts in a dream, where youre introduced to woman.. and the game is set around trying to understand this dream and the different figures in this dream, and government projects, and pills, and mind powers.. but assigning a single genre to this game just isn’t possible.
    Past cure is all over the place with what it is.. and some of these things are good.. some not so good..
    And depending on the type of player you are you may actually end up really hating certain parts of this game and loving others…
    Theres a great focus on narrative which is perfect for a game delivered in the way that it is..
    Theres an interesting story full of intrigue to pull you through the section of the game you may not like.. as really there are no repeating sections here..
    The game at first is a resident evil styled horror game as youre learning the shooting mechanics…
    It feels like a quantic dream styled game while youre running around your home, and then all of a sudden it’s back to dream land where youre doing puzzles with your telekensis and time manipulation powers.. but this is really just the game using a clever tutorial to teach you how to manipulate later sections of the game…
    As youre then in a 3rd person shooter, health pickups and blue pills are important here as youll be using your powers and taking damage as youre taking out enemies from behind, grabbing their guns and getting into gun fights.. using your telekinesis to take out cameras to not alert more..
    But now all of a sudden it’s a hitman feeling stealth game which was my personal least favorite chapter of the game where time manipulation is now important are being detected fails the mission sending you back to the last autosave
    and then bits feel like dishonored while youre trying to crack safes, then youre in a horror outlast feeling chapter with puzzles and stealthy sections with monsters you cant attack
    The game is non stop changing things up which is really great if youre into variety..
    Its also great because it stop the game from feeling boring or like a drag to get through
    Its bad however because none of these chapters feel like quality chapters indevidually, it’s a bunch of mediocre versions of really great games and genres stapled together, though the sum ends up being greater than its parts…
    As an experience its an overall enjoyable one
    The 3rd person shooting is probably what will stand out as the worst aspect of this game..
    The hit detection is just awful.. you feel like youre getting lucky everytime you finally take out an enemy… but these moments are spaced out and checkpoints are frequent enough for them to not feel like too much of a hastle
    Past Cure is a hard game to describe, but if its anything its like nothing you’ve experienced before and everything you’ve experienced before all at the same time.
    Sometimes this is a 3rd person shooter, sometimes this is a horror games, and sometimes this is a stealth game.
    Its unique and worth checking out.
