With several technical issues, Outbreak: The New Nightmare is a game that we can only recommend to a classic survival horror fan.

Do not be fooled into believing that Outbreak: The New Nightmare brings back old-school survival horror. It may well house many of the elements, but the truth of the matter is that this game is merely a poor imitation of a 20 year old game that’s much better. It lacks optimization, personality, and comes with a heap of technical problems and poor design choices.

What really kills Outbreak: The New Nightmare is the generally unpolished feel of the whole game. It must be said that the developer clearly has his heart in the right place by trying to revive the classic style of survival horror in this way, but it takes more than copying a classic to make that happen.

It's very enjoyable to play and I like that there are so many different levels and game modes. I also like how you can change your character and level them up to get a specific perk. It's pretty fun to play with so many different objectives to accomplish in the different levels. In one of the game modes you have to kill zombies to keep your time up or you will die which is fun and you get different guns i.e. shot gun, assault rifle, and a pistol. You have to kill large zombies to get keys to unlock special doors. The game's price is affordable, so it's worth the price of admission. You also get a survival mode that you have to kill so many zombies to move on tho the next wave of zombies... It has a steep difficulty curve, but also fun. I like how there are different maps you can play on like asylum, grave yard, etc. One map is shaped like a space ship plus different zombie types (crawlers and zombies that spit acid at you). You only get limited space in your inventory to pick up like ammo, weapons and keys, pain killers so you have to play strategic to win. The game is worth picking up for survival horror fans looking for an affordable experience in the genre. Expand
