  • Summary: Oniria Crimes is set in a near future where the thaw has caused the sea level to rise, the world’s main cities are flooded underwater. New York, Buenos Aires, London, Rome, Barcelona, Cairo, Beijing, Tokyo, Sydney … are just rusty memories among the fish.

On Xbox, Oniria Crimes’ greatest successes are in the rich world it’s created, and the uniqueness of interrogating the crime scene to come to a conclusion. But neither are enough: the experience tumbles into a nightmare, as poor controls, bemusing design decisions and bugs overwhelm everything.

There is a redeeming quality, and that’s the creative world and interesting crime scenes within it. But the clumsy navigation and fairly frequent bugs stop it short of being remotely entertaining. It seems like it is unfinished. There is even an option in the menu (to quit out) which is still not translated into English in the version I played. For the longest time, I didn’t even know what this option was because I didn’t know what it said. It ended up meaning quit, which is exactly what I’ve decided to do.

You’ll investigateOniria Crimes is set in a dreamlike future, detectives Santos and Torres will have to solve a series of mysterious murders. You’ll investigate and interrogate objects with their voice and personality in a point and click Noir graphic stylized adventure. Oniria Crimes is a narrative adventure published by BadLand Publishing and has one of the strangest, most surprisingly detailed video game premises I've heard in a fair while. Oniria Crimes is a point and click game to solve crimes in Oniria the Land of Dreams. You play as a detective hopping from crime to crime attempting to solve various murders in a rather unique world of 3D pixel characters. The developers did a decent job of creating a world to become immersed in. There is a lot of dialogue between characters which provides plenty of back story to an interesting premise. There are some bad points in the game though, for example one of the testimony given by the objects is misdirection, so while a detail mentioned might seem obviously incriminating. However the clue must also fit with the motive and overall narrative as well. That means even if your choice indeed incriminates or exonerates the suspect, if it doesn’t fit with the correct hypothesis or conclusion about what happened at the crime scene, you will have to look for other evidence that does work. In my opinion the game is enjoyable but not overly so. If you’re a fan of the point-and-click genre then you’ll want to pick this one up for your Xbox One on the Xbox digital games store. Expand
