    Nefarious attempts to show the other side of a classic video game power struggle, but like many evil schemes it just doesn’t pan out as intended. For all its ambitious goals, it buckles under the pressure at every turn. The blueprints are there, but it lacks the workmanship and polish to truly strike fear into the weak-minded masses. It might be good for a few sinister chuckles, but that’s about it.

    I found some of the boss battles to be very exhilarating and when defeated I got a nice rewarding feeling, which is what you’d expect from aI found some of the boss battles to be very exhilarating and when defeated I got a nice rewarding feeling, which is what you’d expect from a decent boss battle. The presentation side of the game has been done really well and the colourful visuals do a good job of making the levels stand out. Each level has a decent amount of variety present in them and that without a doubt keeps each level interesting and fun at the same time. Being the villain was a unique approach and the little bit of story was interesting even if the game didn’t last very long. Unfortunately the game suffers with a few issues and the most annoying of these issues were the controls which never felt fully responsive throughout.
    In terms of content the game doesn’t have much at all and in the end the length of the game was just too short. The character and enemy designs were a little basic and nothing much stood out here unfortunately. Nefarious has a style that’s a bit like the famous Mega Man series and whilst it’s far from perfect I actually enjoyed the game on the whole. One of the main reasons why I enjoyed the game so much is due to the fantastic level design that’s present. Each level is completely different and has a nice bit of detail included in them and when you combine that with the colourful visuals you end up having a fun an enjoyable time in each level. I also really enjoyed the boss battles as well because they did a great job of breaking up the usual gameplay and defeating them always felt rewarding. Despite these good aspects the game does suffer with a few shortcomings and without a doubt the game’s worst shortcoming is its controls. The controls don’t feel as tight and responsive as they should and this does cause you to experience quite a few frustrating moments along the way. That being said it thankfully gets more things right than it gets wrong and if you’re after a short platformer that offers you a fun experience then you can do far worse than Nefarious.    … Full Review »
