If you’re looking for a casual platformer with some classic Metroidvania style elements and plenty of varied enemies to blast away at for a bit of afternoon fun, then there is no reason not to jump into Mystik Belle.

Unfortunately in terms of length it’s a little short so don’t expect to have hours and hours with this game, but the content that is here has been done really well. The game never tries to be too complicated, and that is evident with the simple and responsive controls. Having simple easy to play controls makes you be able to focus on the puzzles and the action taking place on screen. The puzzles in the game are very cleverly designed and require some thought at times, which makes the game more fun. I was however a little disappointed with the platforming and combat elements. The combat just feels generic and nothing really stood out, which made fighting very tedious at times. They do however do a good job with the level-up system, and they make it feel very rewarding because there are a number of abilities for you to unlock and each ability improves you somewhat. The story in the game was good and it did a good job of enhancing the gameplay, but unfortunately once you complete the game there is no reason for you to return, which is a shame. The presentation side of the game is brilliant. The pixel art style makes the game come alive, and does a wonderful job of making you connect with the charming characters. All in all Mystik Belle may not be the perfect Metroidvania style game, but it has a number of things going for it. It’s managed to implement creative puzzles into an adventure that keeps you interested throughout, which is great. It does suffer with a few problems here and there, but it combats them with a decent story and an adventure worth taking part in. If you like games with a very retro feel then you will love Mystik Belle, and it gets a recommendation from me. Full Review »
