Monster Jam Steel Series 2 is back with this new game that improves on its predecessor in every way. More vehicles more competitions and a lot more fun thanks to the long-awaited arrival of multiplayer mode.

There are many trucks to level up and many customization skins to unlock by earning XP with each of the 8 groups of trucks and finding all the collectibles on top of secret vehicles. Overall, this is a fun arcade racer with some issues, but none that are game breaking.

Monster Jam Steel Titans 2 may not be the prettiest, and the handling can be a pain, but there's plenty to unlock and more than enough events to get stuck into.

Even though Monster Jam Steel Titans 2 on Xbox looks to seriously build on what its predecessor delivered, there are a few elements which hold it back from really providing the goods. The camera is god awful, the picky track limits system is a pain, and there are only so many times you can go flying through the air pulling off stunts before the whole thing gets boring. The open world has some serious promise, especially with the multitude of secrets that are hidden within, but a bit more shiny wax needs to be applied for this monster truck to start to gleam.

Monster Jam Steel Titans 2 is yet another game in the genre that will be forgotten. Rainbow Studios has been one of the most prolific in mud-based racing games for a long time. They have crafted some of the best off-road endeavors I have ever played. This is sadly not one of them. It feels like a second thought as far as execution goes. Like they had a license and a chance to make a sequel and just pumped it out with little fanfare. I wanted to love it, but sadly it will be relegated to just a memory in a few weeks’ time.

Rainbow Studios has been responsible for some top-notch, mudslinging racers over the years, but Monster Jam Steel Titans 2 isn’t one of them. The racing is serviceable enough and the themed worlds are a cute idea, but its bland and poorly presented, chore-like approach to its career content turns one of the most grin-inducing spectacles in motorsport into a remarkably dull experience.

Monster Jam Steel Titans 2 almost gets there but it’s just not consistently fun enough to warrant ongoing play. The open worlds are large and some of them are well designed, but there just isn’t really anything to do other than drive around. The races themselves are too much of a mixed bag, mixing some exciting races with other tracks that would better suit a Rally Car rather than a Monster Truck. The arena challenges are fun for a while but they become too repetitive to keep going back to.

It’s a motorsport game that has a variety of events likeMonster Jam Steel Titans 2 is well monster trucks crammed into your Xbox Series X. It’s a motorsport game that has a variety of events like racing, freestyle, and demolition events. It leans less simulation and more towards arcade which is great for a game that gives you points for doing stunts like moonwalks, stoppies, bicycles, and many other things along your time with the game. Monster Jam Steel Titans 2 definitely has vast content, even if I’m not always thrilled with how that content is presented in game. I love that Monster Jam Steel Titans 2 is full of things to do, and many trucks await to unlock. There are several different categories of monster trucks as well as a handful of different event types to drive them in. There’s a career mode, where you can compete in events to unlock new areas in an open world hub, and advance through the 21 chapters. You can even explore the hub world to find secrets and collectibles.  There’s also a Big Show mode that has you compete in the smaller circuits before advancing to the big time. When you’re done with the Career and Big Time mode, there are Career+ and Big Time+ for even more of a challenge. If you want to play with friends, you’re in luck this time. Split-screen multiplayer returns in the sequel, but now you can play with others online which is something you couldn’t do in the previous instalment. No matter which way you play it, there are about seven events you can participate in. There are a few racing events, like head-to-head that has you race one on one with other cars in a knock-out style bracket. Circuit racing is more traditional racing with marked path, while waypoint racing gives you a waypoint and gives you discretion to get there however you can. There are a few score-based stunt competitions, like freestyle and two-wheel skills. There’s also the timed destruction mode that has you drive through objects and over cars to attain a high score. There are thirty eight monster trucks you can eventually collect by playing the Career and Big Time modes. Each of these trucks are part of a larger category, with each category having special abilities.  Some of these abilities are dull, like extra boost however others allow you to literally push the competition out of the way. There are a lot of fan favorite monster trucks to eventually unlock, and even some that I recognize by name. Each truck also has a first person cockpit view, if that’s something you look for. The trucks in Monster Jam Steel Titans 2 just don’t feel weighty enough which is something experienced in the predecessor as well. It’s definitely an arcade experience, but it falls short of what I typically expect from an arcade style racer and I really wanted to like Monster Jam Steel Titans 2 so much more than the previous title, and it has a lot going for it. I just wish I had more fun playing all of the events since the content is there. There really aren’t that many options when it comes to monster truck games, and Monster Jam Steel Titans 2 feels on the other end of the wheel than Monster Truck Championship, a recent monster truck game I really enjoyed even though it’s much more simulated which is a bit like apples and oranges. That being said this isn’t a bad game and I am being super critical of it being I really wanted a full arcade feel. If you enjoy the genre though you won’t go wrong with all the content on offer so head on over to your Xbox digital games store and roll with the big dogs! Expand

I gave it a 8.5 and just kept going on , and playing it forever. So I was so excited when I saw we would be getting the sequel as well as covering it. I just couldn't wait to dive back into once again on the next Gen console. I remembered THQ Nordic sharing our review and getting us a ton of views and adding to our follower count. So i held much respect for them, and Rainbow studio's art. Hoped it would be a repeat of this, and I'd be super excited and posting great things shortly after receiving it. Saddly it didn't take long at all to become very stale, and I was dreading even covering it. I thought about maybe reaching out to them, and asking can I just buy the game, and not cover it this time. I even was dreaming about it that night , and having problems sleeping. I hate to be negative, I do my best to always find good things about something. I feel like every game is a piece of some one. I feel like it's their art, and probably put a lot of their heart into it. So I just struggled both days I was playing it mentally, and wanted to really just make it all go away. I soldiered on though, and kept playing it more hoping to find things to say hey this is new and I like this better. I just couldn't, I couldn't really play it any more either. I'm one of those people who have to finish a game to cover it. I feel I have to give it it's time, and see how it grows on me. I feel every game deserves that. This one to be honest I was done in the first couple of hours. If I had paid for it this is one of the games I would have been requesting a refund. I kept playing longer though, getting like 10 hours in, and my thoughts never changed. I felt the way I felt after 2 hours, after wasting 8 more hours. I felt like I wasted my time, and I hadn't experienced anything different the entire time. It just felt like a repetitive grind. Kids love Monster Jam games, and I don't see how it would appeal to them playing with generic trucks and drivers. I don't see many of them doing what it takes to get more trucks. It's such a hassle. You have to play the same thigns over and over with trucks you really don't care about at all to get the trucks you want. Then you have to grind it all over again to level those ones up. If you just really wanted to spend 40 dollars , and have a game with tons of content and replay value you'd prob enjoy it some what feeling you got your money's worth. I still find that hard to believe really because when you are putting those hours in it just feels lifeless. The events really don't have the excitement they did in the first installment in my opinion. I feel like I could have grinded that game out, but I didn't have to. Expand
