Magic Duels is a passable port of a complex card game to console, but the product is rife with defects and desperately needs additionalMagic Duels is a passable port of a complex card game to console, but the product is rife with defects and desperately needs additional functionality to make it playable:
1. the Versus Battle Mode needs to match contestants of similar ranks
2. the Season Ranking System is incredibly simplistic and abandons the ranking systems used in Official Magic tournaments
3. the Versus Battle Mode frequently cannot find opponents, requiring the game to be terminated and the user having to log off and on to the Xbox Live service (per Magic Duels own Technical Support FAQ's)
4. when defending, the user is often unable to legitimately activate card abilities
5. many cards are “broken” and their effects do not “proc” accordingly
6. social interactivity is virtually nil in the game, few players actually interact over microphone
7. because of the product's defects, player inexperience, and imbalanced battle matching, players often play passive aggressively, exploiting the game clock.
8. despite being designed for 1080p, the board layout is poorly utilized and cards in the opponents field of play are unreadable
9. when players cast cards, the GUI flashes them rapidly, not giving the player the opportunity to read the text
10. between player actions, the GUI doesn't allow the player to highlight, expand and view many cards in the field of play
11. the deck creation and editing utility has no ability so search or filter by text and is missing essential card categories to filter
