If you’re looking for a game that will entertain the whole family, innovating and informing as you go, then you can’t go wrong with Lost Words: Beyond the Page on Xbox. It’s a great experience with a fantastic concept, some beautifully heartfelt writing, and wonderful gameplay.

I felt very identified with Izzie. There are situations that the game manages to express perfectly.

The story of Lost Words manages to be both sad and beautiful at the same time. Having been written in part by Rhianna Pratchett (daughter of Sir Terry Pratchett), the game excels at taking you through the grieving process in a safe and comfortable way that may help prepare some for when they inevitably have to experience it for themselves. I highly recommend taking the time to check out this moving game, but please bring your tissues.

Lost Words: Beyond the Page to me is a heavily story-based game that uses platforming as a means to tell it. If you’re after something with deep gameplay to get into, this may not be the right title for you. If the story alone is something that piques your interest then it’s definitely worth a shot as it is an enjoyable tale.

This is a beautiful platforming adventure that, after a slow start, becomes interesting and enjoyable. Simple, but fun.

Lost Words: Beyond the Page tells an highly emotional story, with good storytelling, sound and dialogues, but counter-balances it with a repetitive and too simplistic gameplay.

I truly enjoyed this game which is a a plat-former with a solid story. It is sad as well as cleverly funny. You are a young girl, who writes in her journal and you accompany her in her wish to become a writer. Her first attempt shall be a fantasy story and we give her a name and her main property intelligence or whatever talent you wish to choose for the trait. Then grandmother suffers a stroke and the story changes dramatically. Now comes the challenge which will be your task in tLost Words: Beyond The Page. You’ll need to catch all the fireflies who have been taken by a mystical dragon. In the diary parts you’ll follow our character’s real life, in the chapter areas you’ll continue the hunt for the dragon and the fireflies. The platforming isn’t too difficult and puzzles are not present but you’ll have to remain careful not to miss fireflies along the way. The scenery is beautifully drawn, and at times I found myself looking at the awe of the scenery. Hint, don't miss the red gems, and head over to the Xbox digital games store if you’re a fan of platforming adventures like myself. The competitive price of admission, gameplay, and presentation will ensure you don’t regret it. Full Review »

As a grown man, I found the journal bits to be much more creative and unique than the "proper" platforming sections that represent the fictional story the girl is writing. The latter are just really basic and boring if you have any experience with 2D platformers whatsoever (I literally fell asleep during one of them), and they are unfortunately muuuuch longer than the journal bits, which drags this whole game down.
