  • Summary: Lost Sea is a 3D strategy-action game that takes place inside a procedurally generated archipelago. It's up to the player to form a ragtag crew of survivors and explore the surrounding islands as they hunt for the necessary resources to upgrade their ship and escape the Bermuda Triangle.

    One of Lost Sea‘s strongest points, the soundtrack is thematic, and keeps you pushing forward through each island in the chain to reach the boss.

    With a premise such as the one we have here, Lost Sea could have been a fun hack n slash survival game. Sadly it’s neither, and apart from the nice looks, solid controls and great soundtrack it deserves to be left where its name implies.

    While the game can be fun in short bursts, the gameplay loop is designed around you playing for extended periods of time. This, combined with subpar visuals and fairly simplistic gameplay, makes Lost Sea an unrecommendable title compared to similar games on Xbox One.

The islands featured in the game are procedurally generated which include many different environments and layouts which adds great replay value to the game. The graphics are great with a gorgeous art style and a nice polish. The soundtrack is fun and enjoyable. The overall tone of the game reminds me of a Nintendo game which is reminiscent of my childhood. The game does not have a save system which can be frustrating at times. The gameplay is fun and addicting, requiring you to strategically manage your crew members(each have their own set of skills). Overall I found this game to be quite enjoyable and I would recommend it to anybody who enjoys rogue/adventure games or Nintendo games.… Expand

There's a decent spread of animations, and the characters are all designed to appear as 1930's/1940's adventurers. It runs well, and hasn't crashed once.

    Lost Sea is a fun game, regardless of the high cost for skills and upgrades. I'm not sure of the longevity for players who're not fond of rogue-likes that punish them for dying, or games that have such a random way of determining the distance you can travel to the next island - still - it's worth a punt if you do like these kinds of games, and it does grow on you.    … Expand

    This is a fairly fun little casual adventure game. Basically you travel through randomly generated island worlds with the goal of findingThis is a fairly fun little casual adventure game. Basically you travel through randomly generated island worlds with the goal of finding magic "tablets" that will allow your ship to travel further. It's kind of like a board game. The number of the tablet determines how far you can move along the current chain of islands. As you explore, you find companions who will add abilities you will find useful for locating all of the treasure and other optional things, which is good if you want to buy upgrades and skills. It's a very well made basic "play for a few minutes" type of thing. So why the low rating? Well...because for some reason the developers decided not to add a save feature. None. At all. Yep..you heard me.. in2016 a developer released a console game in which you cannot save your progress. Initially I thought "Oh, but you can save once you finish a world and you save after beating each world, right?" Nope. No saves. At all. When you beat a "world" of islands, you can then skip ahead to that world again, but when you do so, you do it without any of your abilities, companions, or upgrades whcih means the warp function is pointless because you would be starting late into the game with nothing, making it much more of a grind than it needs to be. I get that they were going for a roguelike-style atmosphere, and I am totally cool with the perma-death idea, but not being able to stop playing is ridiculous, especially since it probably takes about 2-3 hours to finish an entire series of worlds unless you get REALLY lucky with the tablets and items. Now, the Xbox One can be put in sleep and you can just resume playing that way, but that's not really "saving" your game. In my opinion, this is a great little casual title and it's totally ruined by this mechanic. The whole "Can't save" thing works in SOME games like, say, Spelunky, but not in something like this. If they update it to save at *least* between worlds, I'd easily give it a solid 7-8.… Expand
