Since he was a young boy, he was digging for hidden gems around the world. Lily enters her grandfathers footsteps as a young archaeologist. Her epic quest for the ultimate treasure, fame and glory begins in a small town, below the garden of their own house. Lily's Epic Quest is an innovative enhancement to the match-3 genre. Next to known match-3 mechanics, you clear a path for Lily through different ground layers. Removing blocks will make space for Lily's path towards the center of the earth. Explore eight magical worlds on your search for rare gems and artifacts and find over 200 collectibles. Some of the gems and artifacts are common and others are very rare. It is up to you to collect them all. The game offers traditional match3 principles but with a free roaming playfield. The player decides where to dig for gems or how to solve 115 puzzles. Additional tools will offer more options and provide access to new parts of the world. Expand

Don’t expect to be amazed by anything you find, and make sure you switch the music off in an instant, but for the price, if you have the patience of a Saint, then you may as well head underground and help young Lily tread the footsteps of her grandfather.

Ultimately, Lily’s Epic Quest for Gems feels like it was built without much consideration for its new home on consoles. While there’s enough here to justify the price of entry, the limited usability and general lack of polish is disappointing.

The match three genre is absolutely huge on phones and I can guarantee that everybody has at least one of these games on their phone. ConsolesThe match three genre is absolutely huge on phones and I can guarantee that everybody has at least one of these games on their phone. Consoles on the other hand don’t have an abundance of these types of games and in a way I’m glad because once you’ve seen one of these games you’ve pretty much seen them all. Lily’s Epic Quest for Lost Gems however introduces new mechanics to the usual match three formula and despite its problems it can be enjoyable from time to time. These different mechanics that are in play can give the game an addictive edge to it and that’s a good thing because the game has a decent amount of content for you to sink your teeth into. You will however have to get used to the slow pace of the game. At times this game can be excruciatingly slow and this does make things become tedious but if you look past this pace you end up getting involved in some decent puzzles. There are a number of puzzles for you to tackle and these puzzles have a decent amount of variety going for them, which in turn keeps the gameplay fresh and interesting somewhat. Some of the puzzles though will frustrate you and that’s mainly because there is a lot of backtracking included with a few of them. The backtracking wouldn’t have been too much of a problem though if the character moved at a quicker pace but unfortunately this slow pace is profound throughout your time with the game. They do however try to combat this by offering you special abilities to complete the puzzles at a quicker pace and thankfully these abilities did help out quite a bit. Each ability does the job it sets out to do and there is a nice amount of variety to them which makes collecting them a worthwhile experience. Technically the game holds up pretty well and the only problem I really came across were the controls. The controls in the game don’t always remain responsive and this can cause you a few problems every now and then which in turn makes you become a tad frustrated, but thankfully it doesn’t happen all of the time and I’m sure a small patch would sort this problem. In terms of the presentation side of the game I wasn’t expecting much but even though I wasn’t expecting much I was still a little disappointed that was on offer here. Everything that’s been included both in the visuals and sound design is very basic and nothing much stands out at all, which is a shame. At the end of the day Lily’s Epic Quest for Lost Gems is one of them games that’s perfect for passing a little bit of time every now and then because when played for long periods you will notice its flaws a lot more. That being said though it does just enough to get a small recommendation from me. Expand
