The Let’s Sing games carry on the tradition of the games established by the SingStar franchise many years ago. Allowing players to sing their favorite hits and compete for high scores with solid vocal productions. There’s a single-player campaign this time around in the form of the Legends mode. Choosing one of four basic avatars, you battle your way through a variety of challenges in order to defeat your opponents. Each opponent hosts three challenges to a finale, which is a classic point-scoring contest with an entire song in play. The idea of the career mode was a nice addition to tis years rendition of the long running franchise. The opponents are grouped into different bands while each band raising the difficulty as you conquer them. Earning stars in challenges helps unlock the next opponent and some swag for your avatar to wear. However the structure of this mode failed to strike me as fun as it’s simply singing all comprised with some mini games thrown in it’s not even something that is much fun even with a good group of friends or family. That’s not to say that there are no opportunities for fun in Let’s Sing 2021. The endorphins you get from screaming your lungs out are a real rush if it’s a tune you truly do fancy, and I had a few moments of pure joy with the title in these space moments. The World Contest mode, gives a much-needed sense of challenge. Absolutely wiping the floor with some anonymous player through the power of Lizzo is a uniquely satisfying experience only second to open mic karaoke at the local watering hole. It’s just that these moments are few and far between, and while they’re facilitated by the game they’re not made any better by the game in doing it in this fashion. I must mentioned that the smartphone mic functionality was poor in Let’s Sing 2021, I discovered even more issues than in previous releases. In short, it’s just broken. I’m a decent singer and I was absolutely killing a performance on phone after nailing it on my microphones I use for music games on the Xbox and it was not even close to evaluation of the same performance from the change of devices which was a brand new iPhone 12 Pro Max. A significant amount of lag ruins phrase timings, and some bizarre choices in adding pitch to spoken lines adds an unpleasant re-learning curve to any songs you’re already familiar with. Further to this, the game has zero intelligence when it comes to harmony. A song like Billie Eilish’s bad guy doesn’t really have a dominant melody in the verses, but Let’s Sing 2021 seems to feel it gets this right, and you basically have to guess which tune the game is listening for or no points for you if you guess incorrectly. It’s difficult enough when multiplayer is already marred by each smartphone picking up every singer in the room, let alone trying to figure out which vocal part the game is expecting you to perform. The occasional issue would be ok, but when your game’s core mechanic is consistently flawed it makes it difficult to enjoy yourself let alone recommend to others. A saving grace of Let’s Sing 2021 is its excellent library of songs. The thirty some tracks are a delightfully varied bunch of recent pop hits. It made me feel old when I scrolled through and recognized only a third of the songs, but this is exactly the kind of experience I come to expect from a game aimed at all-ages party singing game. In a family setting with multiple generations present, there should be a bunch of songs that only the kids know as well as a heap of classics. I was initially excited that you can extend your song library through purchases until I saw the pricing to do so, while I have thousands of dollars invested into my beloved Rockband thesis not the same cup of tea. The base game sets you back a full retail priced game already, while each song pack of 5 songs is around $7 whichI can accomplish much more fun thru my Rockbank library for similar money. If you were to buy every song pack, it would have set me back more than the cost of the initial game. While I played on a review code supplied to me, there’s no option to purchase individual tracks that I may desire, you have to buy a pack based around a theme, even my money gobbling fave Rockband allows me to purchase individual songs in a pack. With this structure and functionality that some will be required to use I was left unimpressed with Let’s Sing 2021. I approached with an open mind, and I was excited by its track list and I adore music games as a whole, but too many issues prevent this experience from being more than overall sense of letdown in the end. While There is a strong Mix of songs and genres, the game modes ultimately are just not enough fun to play and pay to get the songs to customize that experience for a player who truly enjoys this genre.… Expand
